Wilken gets rewarded for finally hitting it hard, by hitting directly to the SS and the force out at 2B ends it.

1-0 loss.

Offense is drying up everywhere this week.

THis home plate ump is squeezing both teams. Absolutely missing clear strikes on the outer black routinely. Wilken takes ball 1. He looks and takes ball 2 on the inner part of the plate. He rips a high inside heater on a one-hop to deep SS. They take the force out at 2B. Up in the count 2-0. With a reliever who has struggled with walks all season. In a prolonged slump. I would love if Wilken could be more selective here. That's clearly a ball and he clearly has to really turn on that ball to make it happen. Given his innate power, I'm not going to begrudge the swing but he has a chance to be more selective here or work the walk. No matter, the Shuckers stranded runners in 8 straight innings. They lose 1-0.

He hit it hard, and that was the third peppered ball to that same SS in the latter half of the game. I personally still want to see him be more selective there as a process. He reached for a rising heater up and in. He has the power to turn on that, absolutely, but in the slump he is in with a pitcher prone to walks on the season why not make him really work for it or give you something over the middle?

A great point. The plate discipline LA showed the last two days in Milwaukee is a perfect example of that. People see the flashy highlights from Ohtani, Betts, Freeman & the like but the highlights never show the work & patience they exhibit to get to a favorable count & GET the pitch to drive.

That needs to be hammered home sometimes with young power guys. Hopefully Wilken & Bitonti learn the lessons.

We can only hope (and pray). 🤭

I always wonder if when the trade deadline and promotion timeline casually tick along, with no change for these guys they start to sag a little bit.

As a young adult, when you are working so hard to achieve a dream, and you are anticipating taking steps toward that dream, only to get "stuck," well, that can be a difficult psychological hurdle.

It's probably really good for their development, though. Every single former big leaguer talks about how young players need to go through these mental challenges in their journey.

Carolina has announced the following line-up for tonight's game one versus Delmarva:

We see young and talented 2B Josh Adamczewski (as expected) remains sidelined as he works to heal that nagging back injury. Most importantly, can RHP Daniel Corniel bounce back from his 7-run fifth inning last week at Fredericksburg. He was smooth sailing until that mini-meltdown. Let's hope he has put it in the rearview mirror.

He expects to come back today or Thursday from the injury all being well
