The High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers can clinch their first Midwest League title since 2012 tonight at Lake County, in Game 2 of their Best-of-3 Championship Series.

23-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle (2.55 ERA with 25 Ks in last 17.2 IP) and Game 1 hero SS Cooper Pratt slots in at his usual second spot in the lineup.

Indeed. AND, I'll just put a spotlight here:

Quote
  • Wisconsin leads Lake County 19-12 in the all-time series dating back to 2010.
  • The Captains are 5-10 against the Timber Rattlers at home and 9-7 on the road.

AA Biloxi (66-69) kicks off its Best-of-3 Division Series at home against formidable Montgomery (80-57), with 23-year old LHP Tate Kuehner (3.19 ERA with 115 Ks in 104.1 IP) starting on 4 days’ rest for the first time this season. 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.’s 832 OPS placed him 3rd in the 8-team Southern League (min. 250 PAs).

Adams plunked for the 41st time (off his left ankle). Two men on. With a grimace, Luke will make his way down to 1B. Men on 1st and 2nd. One down.

Yophery then grounds into a double play. He did not look comfortable in the box against Wilkinson. Hopefully they don't regret not getting that 2nd run in from 3rd.

Yophery comes aboard and swings at an inside pitch at his eyes. He proceeds to swing at another heater inside (ball two) and hits a weak grounder to SS into a DP. Yuck.

Didn't look comfortable and had two very poor swing choices. Show some patience, young man. Ugly AB.

In general, and it has very very little to nothing to do with that AB, I've mostly disagreed with Stanley, now Estevez, and likely the Brewers org and where they've batted Yophery in their line-ups in 2024.

AND, Cornielle comes aboard and throws four consecutive heaters for balls. Ugly start.

Cornielle with a 4 pitch walk to open the game. Hopefully this isn't a sign of bad Cornielle showing up today.

He then throws a first pitch meatball to the next hitter who knocks a double to the left center gap. Early signs of trouble for Cornielle.

That was a second pitch. First pitch was a strike looking.

Captains hit a ground ball to Pratt who makes the bold decision to throw to 3rd where Adams just barely gets the tag in time. That's a big play. 1-1 with a runner on 1st and 1 out.

Pratt gets the lead runner out at 3rd with a fantastic scoop and throw. LOVE that aggression. You rarely see it but that play is often there. Pratt is so dang good man. SO good.

Cornielle's heater is really tailing to the arm side run inside. He doesn't really have control of the pitch and it's forcing him to try and lead with his off-speed.

Cornielle then drills the next hitter square in the back on a 2-2 pitch. Cornielle clearly does not have it here in the 1st. Need to find a way to keep it to 1 run.

AND, just like that, he follows my lead and loses complete control plunking the next batter high and inside off his upper back. Cornielle is very much not sharp at all.
