I would love the move.   More Rhys to DH more.    Yeli would have to be counted on to play the field but I think they want that when he is in the lineup anyway.

A one or two year deal for Goldy as Wilken/Boeve/Adams jockey for corner IF supremecy 1-3 years from now makes sense to me.

Regan said just say no to drugs,  well I am saying just say no to Goldschmidt.  The guy is done he was absolutely horrible with runners on base this year and also with runners not on base.

If you think Hoskins has been bad this year Goldschmidt has been worse.  He isn’t even an elite defensive 1B anymore either.  If Goldschmidt would sign a 1-year $10mm or less contract sure sign him but anything more I hope the Brewers just stay away.

Goldschmidt had a 98 wRC+ to Hoskins 100. Goldschmidt was the better defensive 1B and baserunner. He had 1.0 fWAR to Hoskins 0.1 fWAR. His .333 xwOBA was 28 points higher than Hoskins .305 xwOBA.

Now I'm not a fan of signing Goldschmidt but let's be real here, Hoskins was the worse 1B this season.

Overall sure but I didn’t compare them overall just offensively.  Going with WAR is not comparing the same players.  If Goldschmidt played as many games at DH as Hoskins did his WAR would be lower.

Including xwOBA with wRC+ is a bit confusing as you already have that in wRC+.

Goldschmidt’s defense has also been declining and it seems as though he is well below average now defensively at 1B.

It doesn’t really make any sense to bring in Goldschmidt he is at best just another Hoskins at this point in his career at an older age.  It is more likely that Hoskins improves next year on his numbers than it is for Goldschmidt to do the same.

I mean offensively they are pretty comparable. 98 wRC+ to 100 wRC+.

xwOBA isn't related to wRC+. That's wOBA. xwOBA is about BB, HBP, K, batted ball quality. Goldschmidt had far better batted ball quality compared to Hoskins which is why his xwOBA is comfortably higher.

Hard hit rate - 49.5% for Goldy to 42% for Hoskins

Avg EV - 91.2 for Goldy to 88.7 for Hoskins

Barrel rate - 11% for Goldy to 13% for Hoskins

Yes Goldy's defense has fallen off but he's still miles better than Hoskins defensively. Goldy had 0 DRS and 0 OAA this year compared to Hoskins -3 DRS and -4 OAA (in about half as many innings)

Assuming the budget works, I'd love to have Goldsmith regardless, and even if Hoskins stays, as long as it means no more Gary Sanchez.

If it's only Hoskins or Goldsmith, that's not all bad, though I'd hope Black gets a chance to outperform Bauers' ever-shrinking production.

If Hoskins doesn't opt out I just don't see this making sense, those two just seem reduntant.  If we didn't have Hoskins, sure why not as long as its 1 year.    But with Hoskins here and Contreras/Yeli needing a bunch of DH ABs already it just doesn't seem to fit to me.  Let Bauers/Sanchez go and give Black have that role for league min, that's like 10 mil saved to help get an IF to replace Adames, and/or maybe helps them keep Williams for his last year.
