Just figure it’d be fun to do a poll of sorts of whom the brewers would prefer to join the club of the three if you HAVE to pick one and the price is one year at the same dollar amount.   Whom do you personally prefer of the three for the 2025 season?

Probably Moncada if we have to pick one, but really I'm not sure any of these guys is even an upgrade over what the Brewers already have

Steamer projections from Fangraphs

  • Turang: 95 wRC+, 2.6 WAR*
  • Ortiz: 104 wRC+, 2.4 WAR*
  • Durbin: 96 wRC+, 2.2 WAR*
  • Dunn: 85 wRC+, 1.5 WAR*
  • Monasterio: 90 wRC+, 1.3 WAR*

  • Moncada: 94 wRC+, 1.9 WAR*
  • Polanco: 97 wRC+, 1.5 WAR*
  • Drury: 91 wRC+, 0.8 WAR*
  • Dejong: 79 wRC+, 0.9 WAR* (have seen this name mentioned a lot)

*WAR scaled out to 650 plate appearances to put everyone on the same playing field

It sounds like we’re better off trading for Ramon Urias…

But I guess Moncada’s got the solid arm and switch hits, so he’d be the guy from this group.

I feel like Fangraphs is over estimating Dunn and Monasterio there by quite a bit and they are more likely to be in the 70s for wRC+ as I believe they were both in the 60s last year. Algorithm is broken for AAAA players who recently did well in the minors at an older age.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Iglesias ?

Interesting. See if he can sustain last year's success. The EV doesn't signal enough pop though, in my opinion.

That’s not a bad idea, although it doesn’t help the lack of power. But if he does show last year was a fluke, you still have a utility guy and can turn to Boeve by then maybe. Or mix with Durbin/Dunn for a bit.

So if it's a MiLB deal or league min salary I'd take almost any of these guys, but DeJong, I really just don't want him. He did alright last year but previous 3 year batting stats are just awful. And we don't need more defense. I'd be nervous about Drury too because of last years disaster but there could be a reclamation story there and I'd prefer that to DeJong.

I won’t be surprised if this drags into February and we wait out someone who’s not getting as much as they expected.  Capitalizing on a market inefficiency.  I do think they will get someone with some pop who can play 3rd.

I did some searching on Moncada and I don’t see any Brewer speculation although those things can come together quickly.  I know he had an injury shut down his winter league season.  I also don’t have a good feel for what kind of money it will take.  He’s going to try to sell his upside but there’s risk that should hurt his value.

The most predictable outcome might be DeJong at a favorable salary for the Brewers.  He brings some pop but I’d rather take a risk on someone else with upside.

Most of these guys going to be looking at 1 year $5M give or take I think. DeJong maybe most likely to get a 2 year offer, Moncada and Drury could have some funky option/buyout options. Polanco and DeJong as going to just try to get as much cash as they can, while Moncada and Drury will likely have a lot of similar offers from cheap or rebuilding teams, but look for their best chance to increase their value for 1 year and their next contract.

Also possible for someone like Drury to get MiLb deal with invite to ST but I think there is enough utility IF talent here that they all get MLB deals.

No reason to move anyone out of their position for Polanco, if that's the route we go. If you could get him to play a decent 3rd base and get more like 2023 out of him.... he would be okay for a cheap stopgap. He still walks at a nice clip and hits homers. It's all of the rest of the slugging that fell off a cliff.

It seems like almost everyone on Seattle couldn't hit last year so maybe a reprieve is needed?

Drury would be a guy you add on a minor league deal if you do it.

Moncada will get more than what he’s worth imo.  Kim is an interesting guy to look at as well.  The shoulder makes his contract demands less.  Not much pop though.
