More former Brewers Rays news. OF Tristan Peters has been DFA'd after the Rays signed LHP Steven Matz to a two year deal.

Quote

Peters, 26 in February, got to make his major league debut in 2025. The Rays added him to their 40-man roster in August but he was mostly kept on optional assignment. He only got into four games with 12 plate appearances in total. He didn’t get a hit or a walk and struck out seven times.

Fans may remember, Peters was originally traded to the San Francisco Giants for the failed RHP Trevor Rosenthal shot in the dark back in August of 2022. He was later traded to the Rays in November of that same year for INF Brett Wisely. Interestingly, perhaps, Wisely himself was DFA'd by the Giants back in mid-September of this year. He has since been scooped up by the Braves where he is rostered on their Tripe-A Gwinnett roster.

When you are trying your best to work your way back to fringe MLB 40-Man staying power, it is often a an arduous road filled with speed bumps - DFA's; new orgs; trades; new Minor League contracts etc. Once coveted Brewers OF Joey Wiemer is now entrenched in this reality:

2024 Sound and Brewer, RHP Kevin Herget (really had a quality season overall that year, imho), re-ups on a Minor League deal with an invite to Big League ST with the New York Mets.

C/UTL Brett Sullivan has signed a new Minor League deal with the Colorado Rockies. He also receives a non-roster invite to Big League ST. The man who helped bring us Brewers fans C Victor Caratini several years ago gets another chance.

RHP Mitch White - Mr. August 2024 for the Sounds (what an unbelievable late run that was - his springboard to a meaningful KBO contract that off-season) - has re-signed with the KBO's SSG Landers. White definitely had a very good first season:

Quote

...he took on a full-time starting role in his first KBO season. Averaging 5 2/3 innings per start, he pitched to a 2.87 ERA and 3.44 FIP, striking out 24.4% of batters he faced and walking just 7.8%. For context, the league-average ERA in the KBO this past season was 4.31, while the league-average strikeout and walk rates were 19.7% and 9.1%, respectively. White also induced groundballs on 54% of balls in plays and limited his opponents to only nine home runs on the season.

Former #Brewers farmhand LHP Nick Bennett recently underwent Tommy John surgery and has accepted the position of Assistant Pitching Coach at Kent State University.  It appears that the southpaw will continue to rehab in hopes of returning to the mound at some point while also getting some coaching experience under his belt.
