Gage Workman

Gage Workman was just DFA by the Cubs. He was a Rule 5 Draft pick with no options so he’d have to be rostered. Only 25 and was originally drafted by the Brewers. Good power and speed, albeit with some swing and miss. Is considered a good defender at 3B but has had a few bad errors this year. Is he worth a claim? Better option than Capra and/or Ortiz?

I think these are the types of plays you make as a small market team. You know who Capra is, and maybe you find a 25yr old diamond in the rough with Workman.. Unfortunately this is where the Brewers are with their 3B/SS situation. I do like Durbin so far and Workman would provide a different left handed bat profile. Thoughts?

Good find.   I assume the Rule 5 thing will hold him back for us, combined with my guess is the team really likes Durbin and expects him to take the job (I'm not as sold).     Otherwise yea that seems the type of low risk 'why not' type move, give him a few weeks of ABs and see what happens. If it doesn't work you're back where you started trying to get someone more reliable by the deadline.    Really with Ortiz's struggles they have to be looking at all routes to not have two blackholes on the IF all year.

I'd rather give him a shot than Capra at this point. I will say I doubt he is anything, decent year last year in AA at 24 but he struck out alot and with skipping a level I doubt that gets better in the bigs.

What the heck, why not? If we lose Capra we still have Mona in 3A who is the same player.

Gage only had 17 at bats this year? I feel like Bauers never sees the field and he has 24.

6'4 and his power could play in MKE ... heck go get the kid. It would be nice to have another lefty option that can cover short if need be to spell Joey and not move Brice.

It looks like he could play a capable SS, along with his superb defense at 3rd. Could give Bauers some competition as well(?)

I mean, Fangraphs has him as a 20 hit tool... yikes. That has to be an error, correct?

He probably would complement Durbin better than Capra.
