It’s a doubleheader for the AAA Sounds at Gwinnett and RHP Deivi Garcia (3.44 ERA, 16 Ks in 18.1 IP) starts the first game. 2B Anthony Seigler has 2 homers in his last 3 games and SS Andruw Monasterio has a 6-game hit streak.

Big test for the Mudcats offense tonight against Mule, who is one of the Cubs better pitching prospects.

Looks like he's reigned in his command somewhat to start the year with "only" 8 BB in 15 IP versus 42 BB in 52 IP last year.

Hopefully Carolina can show some patience and then pounce on any mistakes.

The Sounds chased Braves #3 prospect Hurston Waldrep in the first inning, with Dunn and Clarke drawing long walks before a Jorge Alfaro RBI single.

Then Ray Delgado shook off a 1-for-25 slump with a 2-run single for an early 3-0 lead.

AA Biloxi is looking for a 3rd straight win at Columbus, this time behind RHP Abdiel Mendoza (6.32 ERA, 12 Ks in 15.2 IP). 3B Luke Adams has 4 HRs and 10 RBIs in his last 6 games.

22-year old RHP Chandler Welch (5.89 ERA, 12 Ks in 18.1 IP) is set for his 5th start, as the Timber Rattlers aim for a 2-1 home series lead over West Michigan. C Blayberg Diaz makes his High-A debut and 1B Blake Burke has 8 hits in his last 4 games.

The always roaring Mudcats (wait, it’s a fish) can extend their home series lead to 3-0 over Myrtle Beach tonight. RHP Travis Smith (2.25 ERA, 7 Ks in 12 IP) makes his 5th start, while 17-year old SS Jesus Made comes in with 10 hits and 9 RBIs in his last 4 contests.

Delgado doubled and Adam Hall singled him home for a 4-1 third inning lead, but Gwinnett got that run back with 3 hits off Deivi Garcia in the 4th.

Deivi’s at 75 pitches, so probably won’t make it through the 5th frame (of this scheduled 7-inning contest).

Hang on Sounds! Still leading 4-2.

Deivi DOES get through the 5th for Nashville with 2 ground outs and a weak fly out. He’s at 88 pitches, the most he’s thrown in any game since 2021.

Still 4-2 Sounds, with 2 scheduled innings left in the first day of today’s doubleheader.

Shuckers getting beat by Ethan Workinger - a HR and a grand slam. Not great tonight in Columbus. Gonna need a big comeback.

Muddies hanging in 3-1 in the 7th.

THe TRats gave up a lead, and then get things going in the 4th. Bases loaded, T. Hall Ks, but Luiyin Alastre get a big hit to RF and i'ts now 3-2 TRats. Diaz strikes out and up to Yhoswar Garcai to keep the inning going.

Chandler Welch was cruising, and then back-to-back 2 out walks. That is the killer for any pitcher. To his credit he was robbed on a strikeout on his last batter. Got to 88 pitches, but a total of 5 walks in 4.2 IP won't cut it. 2 on, 2 out and Peek is in to try to keep the lead.

Of note the second out was a very nice fielding play by Blake Burke. Who says he can't play defense at 1st?

Meanwhile Muddies are planning for their 9th inning comeback? Still down 3-1 late.

Biloxi still down big. 8-2. Gonna need something special by the Shuckers to get back into this game.

Sadly Peek can't do the job. A line drive to LF, and Alastre fields the single, and throws home but just not enough, and it's 3-3 game. Bummer.

Posted

Even worse. A wild pitch and runners now at 2nd/3rd and then another 2 out single, and it's 5-3 Whitecaps now. Ugh.

And Nashville in game 2, down 1-0 but a home run by Sandy Leon and it's now 2-0 Stripers.

8th inning. RELENTLESS.

It's a walk by Eric B, and then DiTuri, and first pitch to Nadal. 102 EV  to deep left. Big time HR.

And it's now a 4-3 lead. Holy heck. This team. Wow. Just wow.

Maybe some 9th inning magic will be needed.

Langhorne can't keep the lead - and it was K, single, HBP and single, and now it's 4-4.

Only 1 out and runners on the corners. C'mon Langhorne let's get the last two outs and get the offense a chance to win in the 9th. And Nick Stanley ejected for arguing a missed strike call. And Langhorne walks him. Bases loaded, still only 1 out. Oh boy, not great. Maybe I shouldn't be watching these games 😉

It's just little league ball in low A.

A high pop up and the catcher calls for it, but drops it. And two runs score. Instead of tie game and on to the bottom of the ninth, it's a 6-4 deficit.

The Mudcats need a big 9th inning comeback now.

Shuckers are still way way down. And TRats can't score, so still trail 5-3, and the Whitecaps are looking for more.

Sounds gave up another HR and ol' friend Carols D. Rodriguez scores on the HR, and it's 4-0 Stripers.

Zach Peek has not been sharp. 32 pitches and only 14 strikes. He walks the bases loaded, allows a run to score on a WP, and then walks the bases loaded again.

Meanwhile runners on and Made up - and is frozen with the pitch and a big K. Made's third K tonight, bummer.

Payne up. He has been in a slump. Would be nice to see him break the slump.

Re: Peek. I will say this. His curveball (I think that's what it is) is pretty good.  Wow - when he controls it he will freeze anyone.

And hello Braylon Payne with a big single. 6-5 game, and a chance to tie or win her. Adamczewski is up.

Adamczewski hits it really hard but just under it enough but a sac fly get the tying run in. Nice job. Great comeback again.

Bitonti stikes out. He has looked lost at the plate. Last year when he came up he K'd a lot, but made contact and hit with power. This season he has no confidence and is swinging at balls and not squaring it up.

Going to extras in Carolina.

And I missed the Shuckers magic. They are still down 8-5 but get 3 runs in the 8th thanks to Wilken single, Waren walk and an Adams HBP (what else?), followed by Rodriguez single and later a Restituyo sac fly. There is a chance just need another 3 run inning.

Reyes is stuggling with strikes - a couple walks and singles and he gives up the lead, and another hit and it's a 3 run deficit. Ugh

Reyes has been squeezed a bit, but just not around to zone to get those calls. Really disappointing relief appearance by him.

Sounds are over and lose the second game 5-0. And the Shuckers give back a run, so need a 4 run rally for the comeback. TRats are staying steady at a deficit of 6-3 in the 7th. Going to need to get a rally inning going themselves.

Posted

Wilken is way to passive and really unsure at the plate. Don't want to pile on him, but he just can't seem to click. He strikes out looking. Sure his recognition is OK and he is getting the walks, but not much more than that. Shuckers lose tongiht 9-5. In the ninth, Lara, PRatt and Wilken all K.

And not to pile on him too but Bitonti is slumping as noted, and who would have had Nadal having a higher OPS and more HRs than Bitonti? Mudcats down to the last out now. Down 3 runs.

TRats in the 8th still down 6-3

Posted

No magic as the relentless offense just ran out of gas. A 3 run 8th and 2 run 9th just to get there was all they could muster. Some suspect defense and less than ideal pitching late in the game did them in.

TRats trying to claw back into with a walk by Baez, but then Hall flies out. And Alastre ends the inning. One more inning to go in Wisconsin.

I'm done for the night

Sounds like a tough night on the Farm. I just got inside from a full day's work. At least the Sounds took one-of-two. That's all I got. 😅
