High-A Wisconsin can take a 3-2 home series lead over Beloit with a victory behind RHP Ryan Birchard (3.70 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 24.1 IP) this afternoon. DH Blake Burke has a 20-game on-base streak.

Birchard looking sharp and locating nicely through the first two innings. Got a little lucky on a hanging breaker, but a superb play by Daniel Guilarte bailed him out. Impressive continuance of the starting pitching dominance of recent days

Gonna need some rallies.

Wisconsin trails 1-0 in the 4th inning. ACL Brewers are down 5-0 in the 5th inning.

Griffin Tobias threw 4 innings (5 R, 6 H), with Joshua Quezada relieving.

Ryan Birchard is still going strong for Wisconsin. A Hedbert Perez double went for naught in the 3rd inning.

On cue, the ACL Brewers put up a 4-spot in the 5th inning, LF Jadyn Fielder’s leadoff single started the rally, with 2B Roderick Flores and Frederi Montero doubling and Tyler Black tripling.

Runners were stranded at 2nd and 3rd (Kevin Ereu fly out to second baseman).

ACL Brewers trail ACL Royals 5-4.

And CF Eduardo Garcia singles, steals second and scores on a ground ball in the bottom of the 4th. Wisconsin 1, Beloit 1.

Ugh. Ryan Birchard obviously ran out of gas at 70 pitches.

He starts the 6th with a 4-pitch walk, gets a line out, sac fly (after 2 SBs) and a 7-pitch walk. Exits down 2-1 after 89 pitches thrown.

It’s time for the Yerlin Rodriguez Magic 8 Ball Experience, with 1-on, 2-out.

RHP Joshua Quezada dominated over 2 innings (4 Ks, 1 BB), but he now hands over to RHP Carlos Carra.

Two ACL Brewers have been picked off (Ereu, Fielder), which doesn’t help the cause. We trail 5-4 in the 7th inning.

Now Carlos Carra answers with a pickoff (after an HBP to the first batter he faced) in a scoreless frame.

Gery Holguin starts the bottom of the 7th with a single, followed by a DH Tyler Black walk (3rd time reaching base today - send him to Nashville).

Shoot: Quero pop-out (0-for-4), Anderson fly out (0-for-4) and Montero ground out (1-for-4) yield nothing.

On to the 8th, still trailing 5-4.

Yerlin Rodriguez has retired all 4 batters he’s faced and now Blake Burke leads off the bottom of the 6th with a single.

Wisconsin trails 2-1, but can hopefully make something happen here.

A bases loaded, 2-out walk drawn by Yhoswar Garcia ties it up 2-2 in Wisconsin. Yeah, you’d better be scared of that #8 hitter. :)

Trailing 5-4, Carlos Carra faced the minimum number of batters in the 7th + 8th, but gives up a single and double to start the 9th. And then a 3-run homer.

That’s going to be a difficult deficit to surmount for ACL Brewers.

Aidan Maldonado pitching for the first time in nearly 3 weeks and has thrown back to back 5 pitch walks.

Maldonado (with a BB and HBP from Shears) allowed 2 earned runs, but Wisconsin got 1 back in the bottom of the 7th (Perez walk, Blake Burke double).

Wisconsin trails 4-3. Might have gotten another run if Jadher hadn’t been thrown out after over-running a single.

The AAA Sounds get a 2nd chance to clinch a series win at Memphis, with RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (2.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 10.0 K/9 in 40.1 IP) looking for another solid start. Spark plug OF Jared Oliva hasn’t played since Sunday. SS Freddy Zamora homered yesterday and has an 18-game on-base streak.

Well done to Zach Peek for working around a leadoff ground rule double in the 9th (line out, K, ground out).

Down 4-3, we’ve got the right people due up: Perez, Areinamo, Burke.

……

So much for that: ground out, K swinging, K swinging.

Wisconsin loses 4-3 despite only giving up 5 hits (8 BB, 3 HBP).

The AA Shuckers are tied 2-2 in their series at Montgomery and have LHP Tate Kuehner (3.69 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 8.5 K/9 in 31.2 IP) taking the mound first tonight. lF Zavier Warren is 6-for-12 with 3 extra-base hits, 2 walks and 3 RBIs in the last 3 games.

EDIT: Luke Adams was scratched from the starting lineup, likely leaving Victor Torres (59 ABs from 2023-25) as the sole available bench bat.

After a rest day for him. SS Jesus Made .864 OPS in 135 PAs with 14 SBs) is back in the Low-A Carolina lineup, aiming to lead them to a home series-clinching win over Fayetteville. LHP Wande Torres (5.17 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 15.2 IP) makes his 7th start, but is yet to complete 4 IP in any.

I have no clue how Carolina is going to get through these next two games pitcher wise. Wande looks set for a very short outing. I assume Welch will start tomorrow but there will be a lot of innings to eat tonight.

Yeah this is really bad. I don't even think Torres is going to get out of the 2nd inning.

I do wonder if Wande Torres might benefit from a demotion to the ACL. He's really struggled in Carolina and jumping straight from the DSL to A ball probably isn't the easiest for a pitcher.

Can you forfeit minor league games? If not we might see like 5 innings of position players pitching today for Carolina
