I just read the article - it is complimentary of the Brewers, but it's really about rooting for a small-market to win a World Series to derail the argument of competitive imbalance and let the Dodgers and Yankees keep on spending whatever they want. Maybe I'm projecting a little....

It kinda reads that way. Not much analysis on why the Brewers have had success.

No talk of how bad the Pirates have been over the same stretch.

That's how I took it. My counter argument would be if the Dodgers had to compete on a level playing field they'd be forced to become a better run franchise. It's not a coincidence the best run franchises on a dollar for win basis are the ones who cannot just throw money around to fix their shortcomings.
