Delmarva is doing their best RHP Jose Nova impression tonight. That's now two throwing errors in wild pick-off throws to 1B. They strand Holguin this time, however as Walther grounds out to SS to end the Mudcats 5th.

We are very much seeing the results of having to use Tayden Hall in LF to spell the paper thin T-Rats OF crew. He just doesn't have the wheels to get to some of these 50/50 balls. Gillis sees his first run cross after a sky high deep bloop lands about 6' in front of the hard-charging Hall. A natural outfielder likely gets to that ball. Then again, Guilarte is our new converted CF'er after the disastrous Kaylan Nicasia experiment. 3-1 T-Rats. A two out RBI poke.

Yeah, Mehring is being very polite saying Hall was shading the left CF alley. That ball was hit 88 mph at a 45 degree launch angle. A natural LF'er runs that down. 😅

We're rich: 2.0 IP for RHP Tyson Hardin before his night is complete. Broca Double-A debut in the 3rd. Pop up to 1B. Pop fly to LF. Gets his first Double-A K on a gorgeous curve. A 1-2-3 debut on only six pitches! NOICE!!

A two-out triple to the RF wall followed by a two out 3-2 double to the left CF gap and it's now 6-4 Mudcats. At 71 pitches, I do wonder if this isn't it for Johnson?

Bjorn Johnson goes out for a 5th inning, and gets 2 out, then a hanging breaking ball hit to deep right, and it's a triple. Side note - Jose Anderson seems much more comfortable in CF then RF as he seems to have trouble tracking balls to right.

Next batter a 9 pitch battle that also ends up an XBH (double) on a hanging breaking pitch.

Delmarva then bails Johnson (who is at 73 pitches) trying to bunt and is out easily. Very curious play there.

Again bulk appearance for Bjorn Johnson - and mostly good not overpowering.

6-4 Muddies. They will need some insurance runs given the state of the organization's bullpen recently.

Ok. Farm chores await. I'm already behind in all broadcasts. Now let's get further behind.

Mudcats have to bare down and pull this out. Fred Nats lost game 1 of their DH today. In essence, they are tied atop the leaderboard at present. And, Fred Nats are trailing Game 2. The time is now.

Payne doubles and gets the 3rd base. Ebel with a great at bat. Fouls off some tough pitches

A grounder that just get through straight up the middle. Just put it in play.  Neither ball hit hard but two singles.  Gets the RBI but is thrown out trying to leg it out for 2, and easily caught off base.

Then Bitonti strikes out - looking bad on his swing for strike 2, then frozen by a breaking ball right down the middle. Strikes out …. Again.  He has a lot of holes and just Ks way too much.

Ebel shows off his arm. Lameda with a glove flip to 2B and Ebel rifles to first to get Ike Irish - maybe a speedster running and it’s just a force out, but the double play is in order here.

Quezada on in relief. Hit the first batter. Then the GIDP.  Next hitter with a great diving play to get the runner. He is apparently having a nice night fielding. Alright. Still 6-4.  6 more outs to go.

Gillis pulled after 3.0 IP in a 3-1 game. Pitch count at 56. I wasn't paying strict attention but I wonder if that was a longer inning than I recalled? He had some two out trouble. I winder if this is more a end-of-the-season innings limit he is approaching as he is close to 90 IP on the year and the T'Rats are very cleary way out of any post-season picture.

Wow Shuckers bats are looking like vintage 2024 Shuckers… and that is not good.

10Ks (3 for Wilken who is 0-3).  And only 1 hit (and 3BB) through 6 innings. 😳 yikes

Lameda with a single, he is 2-4 nice night for Luis.

Two runners on (Anderson had walked).

A bloop hit that just fell, and Holguin gets a hit, and close play at third but Anderson is just safe. Phew.

Bases juiced and only 1 out, Walther up.

Walther Ks. New pitcher and Payne flies out to left. No additional insurance runs. 7-4.

Looks like TRats lose the lead. Appears Gillis went a couple batters too many, but Seppings struggled and it’s 4-3 River Bandits.

Welp Ebel, caught stealing. And Bitonti called out looking. Just looks lost at the plate tonight. Granted that last called strike 3 was a questionable call, but Eric just hasn’t improved much this year. When he gets on heaters he will hit his HR. But far too much of nothing in between.

Ebel makes a nice fielding play at SS to get the first out. Unfortunately two hits to start the inning has allowed Shorebirds to close it to 7-5.

Fowler on to try to close it out. Reportedly hit 96 mph on his fastball. And he has a slow breaking ball.

Gets a pop up for out #2

B. Tavera up - one of the Shorebirds better hitters.

Fowler blows it by him. And hang on for a 7-5 victory. First save for Fowler.

Nice win. And technically in first place right now pending the F-Nats game.

Meanwhile Pratt sac fly gets the Shuckers on the board. 1-1 game.

It’s Made / Fischer as the offense for T-Rats tonight. But that’s ok as Fischer drives in Diaz to knot it up.

But in Montgomery - Wilken ends the Biloxi threat with a K.  0-4 with all 4 Ks tonight. Good to see Brock back in action, but oh boy.

He's just tipping his cap to Chourio. Levels to the return from injury. Brock is playing chess.

Truly a heck of a Double-A debut for LHP Jesus Broca. He keeps coming on and solidifying his standing within the Brewers org. A really fantastic second half storyline just got even better. He was in control and pounding the zone.

Oh, I see. Gillis had a visit on the mound after his walk to end his work. It looked like they were looking at his hand. He's shaking his hand. Looks like possibly blisters on his throwing hand. He was holding out his index finger. SO, he was pulled early and it was what looks like a minor injury related. That's the reason for the exit not the lead-off double and free pass. He's still checking those fingers in the dugout.
