He got hit in the wrist not the hand. Looks like more of a bone bruise type situation to me. They would have checked for potential broken bones in between innings. Would be crazy if they didn't.

It looked to me like the mitt was crushed on the back side. Maybe I didn't see it right. And then the closeup his fingers looked gnarly. Maybe they always do.
