Rays 2B prospect Jadher Areinamo won Rookie of the Year in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Areinamo was shut down after just 36 games in the winter season, but that was more than enough time to impress. The 22-year-old hit .364/.420/.692 with 13 home runs, 43 RBI, and five steals. He was acquired from the Brewers at the deadline last year for Danny Jansen. This has the makings of a great return after Areinamo also impressed in 131 games split between High-A and Double-A last year.

And with RHP Nick Mears no longer a Brewer, we see one of the former Brewers involved in the original acquisition has been DFA'd:

Via Baseball America’s Matt Eddy -

RHP Corbin Martin (Nashville 2024 and a phantom big league Brewer, called up, didn’t appear in a game), to the Cubs

INF Christian Arroyo (Nashville 2024), to the Mets

Former Brewers’ Rule Five experiment Gus Varland (2023 season - returned to Dodgers that May and added to LAD’s 40-man that August) also stays on an MLB 40-man roster:

Of all the great trades the Brewers have executed the Haniger + Banda for Gerardo Parra was one of he worst in the recent past, and it is the starting point of a not so great trade tree that involves Mr. Herrera:

Haniger/Banda for Parra; Parra for Z. Davies. Then Z. Davies + Grisham for Lauer/Urias. Urias into Blalock, and Blalock + Herrera into Mears; finally Mears plus Collins for Zerpa.

So Haniger, Banda, Grisham, Herrera, Collins have netted a couple of good years of Davies, Lauer, Urias, and Mears, and Zerpa is left standing for now. Not awful as the downside of that trade tree was in the first trade, but the end of it so far will be Zerpa v Herrera now that most other parties have moved on.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how can someone from Bermuda play for Canada?

Canadian father. Born in Bermuda, moved to Canada at 15 and played for the junior national team. Drafted out of a Canadian highschool. Sports nationalities are a weird thing

Looking over that current active Estrellas roster over at Baseball America - I don't know how acccurate this roster actually is - I see old friend LHP Andy Otero! Hadn't read or heard his name in a couple years. Awesome to see. We also see RHP Enoli Paredes, RHP Marcos Diplan (a name I hadn't thought of, personally, in many years), RHP Javy Guerra, and we even have a RHP Zach Mort (!!) sighting!

It would appear the corresponding move for the White Sox after signing Austin Hays is DFA'ng old southpaw friend LHP Bryan Hudson. Will he start the season in Charlotte? Will he stay in the Sox org? Given Hudson used up his final option year in 2025, and given this is his very first DFA while also having less than three seasons accrued on his service clock, he'll have to wait the 48 he waiver window to see if any teams claim him or trade for him. Given his struggles the past year plus - drop in velo and general loss of control - I tend to think he very likely opens his 2026 season in Charlotte. Sounds open their Home Park Tuesday March 31st vs Charlotte - I imagine we could see Bryan once or twice that series.

INF/OF Weston Wilson has officially cleared DFA waivers and has been outrighted to Norfolk by the Baltimore Orioles. Like Bryan Hudson above, Wilson will have to accept the assignment - his first outright while lacking the required three years of clocked MLB service time.

It would appear OF David Dahl has transitioned quickly into his post-playing career as he signs on with the Los Angeles Dodgers as their Triple-A (Oklahoma City) OF & Asst Hitting coach. Very cool and best of luck David!
