Found this interesting, if true...  I'm assuming that with the Peralta trade, we are probably actually in the negative now.

The Brewers spent $22M when Woodruff accepted their qualifying offer.

Was going to add this to the "Off season around the league" thread, but it has been mysteriously locked down.

Yeah, looks like this graphic is only accounting for FA contracts.

Athletics are down for $2.85M but they added $10M in salary trading for McNeil, plus extended Soderstrom for $86M.

If another mod did it intentionally let me know, otherwise it was probably unintentional. I unlocked it.

That thread did get seriously off topic, but usually when that happens, it is corrected, and the thread lives on...

Looking at the Cot's spreadsheet for the Brewers payroll next year.

To me it looks like with expiring contracts, likely trades (Megill, Vaughn and Contreras) and no bonus' to Woodruff and Hoskins, the Brewers payroll would be half of this year's projected payroll of about 125 million.

With the young guys coming up and getting playing time this year does that portend some young player extensions or big free agent acquisitions?

Or will the young guys fill all the holes we perceive we have at the moment?

Where will we spent our money next offseason?

I don't know why any outlet would put out something so misleading. Obviously all arbitration eligible player go a raise, that's money spent. They brought back Woodruff for 22 million on a QO plus paid his buyout.

No doubt players will get raises. The arb eligible players are also figured in this year.

I was just making the point that there will be a sum of money available next year to make some moves.

Maybe that is resigning Woodruff after a Cy Young season or giving Made and Fischer extensions.

With the Rengifo signing, Fangraphs now has the 2026 payroll $14 million higher than the 2025 Opening Day payroll & $7 million higher than the 2025 Final payroll. So a bit of a jump this offseason in terms of money spent by the Brewers

The media, putting out misleading stories?

SHOCKING!
