I was wondering if the Timber Rattler players who are doing well were being held in high A because once they get promoted no ones resdy to fill their roster spot on Wisconsin. To what extent does this go into timing of a promotion? I know Big League teams like to promote players into a homestead rather than on the road... so there are some outside factors that go into promotions. Jett may be being held back because they want to avoid Super 2 designation, but he also might be being held back because his split vs RHP is sub-optimal.

I suspect moreso than we are used to having a place for guys to be promoted becomes a factor with the depth of the system. On the low end waiting for the draft and that influx of players also plays a role I would imagine. In the past the team has talked about making sure guys are ready in a way that suggests they are probably looking at other things in some fashion as well like maturity perhaps and certainly aspects of defense.  The way so many young players seem to fit in once they are on the MLB team suggests they are doing something about teaching how to be part of the clubhouse.

The draft is one aspect that I was overlooking and I remember that that comes into deadline trades as well (drafting over a position means that we could be more willing to trade a player from that new position of strength). Thank you.

Fun topic and I assume there are many factors that I/we are unaware of. Big gigantic puzzle on how and when to push and pull guys.

Generally speaking it makes sense to me that you don't hold back on a player's progression because you can't 'backfill' but rather that his promotion creates issues above him. If the player is a rocketship - like Made or Chourio or Miz, etc - you figure things out around them regardless of others. But for a guy like Adamczewski in Appleton (as an example) - he needs to get moved up but I could see the Brewers FO wanting him to get daily at bats above all else. Mike Boeve has been playing more LF in AA this year as the Brewers try to add that to his bag and when Josh A moves up I assume he will get the majority of LF starts. So this may be a case of Milwaukee wanting every day at bats for both Josh A and Mike B for at least the first half of the year before the re-shuffle. Boeve is actually a great example because Fischer is the 3rd baseman who will push him off of 3rd in Biloxi so if Milwaukee wants Boeve to get everyday at bats ... Adamczewski and Fischer both can't be in AA.

Filling in roster depth behind a promoted player isn't a terribly difficult task IMO if you don't have a prospect readily available. The Brewers kind of did that a month ago when they signed Coley to play in Biloxi. Lots of guys out there who want to play and be given a chance so instead of promoting someone who isn't ready you can just grab a milb free agent that can keep the seat warm while we wait for our prospect to be ready while also giving that person off the street a realistic opportunity to reinvent themselves
