Starting this early, but with the 2027 halfish maybe season near us and with Contreras pricing himself out of Milwaukee via FA, I wonder how we view him.

Do we trade him NOW and reap a good haul for him? I shutter to think of the backlash that would happen in a year we have high hopes. We have learned from the Hader Trade, I think, but ironically that Trade brought us Contreras indirectly.

How about this offseason? Then again, can we expect any type of good Trade in an offseason that could go mostly or even throughout 2027?ย

Or is he like Adames? Keep up this year and next. Let's go for it. Lots of intangibles there.. not worth it's gold in a trade. I am probably in this camp.

You thinks?

Theyโ€™re not going trade their #3/#4 hitter in a season where they have the second best record in the league and are within striking distance of the number one seed. Not to mention in a pitching rotation filled ย with young arms a quality veteran catcher to handle them is gold.ย
ย

Maybe theyโ€™ll trade Contreras in the off-season if there was an offer too good to be true, but again it would be antithetical to what theyโ€™re trying to do, not to mention the dearth of catching depth in the organization.
ย

So what is most likely is if the team remains competitive Wild Bill will play out his six seasons in Milwaukee and leave as a free agent.ย

Yeah...the decision has largely been taken away from the team, you'd think. Not gonna NOW. Wait til the offseason and who would trade quality prospects for a few months maybe of a top catcher?ย  Perhaps a team or two. Maybe.

I think you hang onto Contreras until he is a FA.ย  If the salary cap/floor changes our FA approach, maybe you have a chance to extend him.

But we have no legit other option at catcher, so there is no way they trade him now.ย  If Quero's arm hasn't come around by the end of the year, maybe we see a trade for another young catcher?

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I like hanging onto guys that we can extend a QO to. Guys like Bill don't grow on trees like fixable starting pitchers doย ๐Ÿคฃ

Contreras would be the most difficult to replace of all the 6th year free agents we have jettisoned in our history in my view. ย  His impact on the pitching staff and his offense at the catcher's spot is one of the primary reasons the Brewers are so good versus the league. As mentioned maybe the next players contract will force the brewers to spend more and if they could extend him for 3 years or something it would be great. ย Also don't think we have any catchers in the minors nearly as good as him. ย Quero before the shoulder injury maybe but not now. ย Contreras is core and he plays the game the right way. ย Keep him if at all possible

Who is going to take over the Yelich contract in 2030? What about Woody's next season? That's what a lot of Brewers should be asking themselves, considering the upcoming CBA could help the Brewers hang onto a respected veteran star.

I think they are probably too old to consider for a THAT big of a deal, but it seems like either Turang or Contreras would fit the bill. (And it would be hilarious if the Crew signed Freddy this offseason).

I agree with Jopal's whole take. They won't trade Wild Bill now. They might trade him this offseason, but I doubt it. The upcoming CBA will determine a lot of things with how things go. That may mean a rather static trade deadline, or a wild one, who knows.

William has a lot of value thats tough to replace. I could see a QO but its close, but i dont think they would move him unless they trust Quero's arm.ย  They are focused as an org on minimizing pitch counts and that could hurt.

I think we see with Yeli and Woody a reason to be even more cautious with veteran contracts. Even with guys the org loves. Instead, I expect an even more aggressive approach at longer first contracts. More bullets to roll the dice a la Chourio/Pratt/Lara. They have so many young guys to work with coming up the org that they dont need to look at the older vets on a third contract.

Like others, I think everything hinges on the new CBA, and the front office wonโ€™t do anything until they know the future lay of the land. Really hope they can extend Contreras to about his age 33 year.ย
