Saturday's Birthdays:

Wilson shortstop Brady Ebel turns 19 today. Wise old soul.

DSL Brewers Gold LHP Santiago Martinez turns 18. He's now on the 60-day IL as he left this June 19th game following a 3rd inning strikeout. Martinez, one of the very, very few southpaws at the complex level, had been off to a scintillating start in his 2nd pro season, 19 K's and 3 BB's in 11.2 innings of one-run ball.

Either I’m losing my mind, or the Shuckers have not updated the probables in a while. Didn’t Letson go on the IL with an oblique like… 4 days ago?

Yes he did.

Expect Braylon Owens tonight.

Fischer with 30 HRs after one last night and Burke with 3 last night to reach 24. Fischer the first Brewers minor leaguer with a 30 HR season since 2001. And Burke might join him.

Don't see this every night:

Yeah, I saw that! Wild, eh?! I continue to be outright amazed  at humanity's fascination with blowing things up or seeing colorful explosions. These types of things happen more often than we realize. Living where I do, in our very serious and dangerous fire ecology, the fact we still embrace fireworks is absolutely asinine to me. We can't help ourselves and we certainly can't get out of our own way. One misfired (Or, these days, intentionally lit) firework into high grass out this way and that is legitimately potentially a thousand plus acre burn in hours.

I'll just plop this here. I would hope the constant improvements we are seeing over the past season plus from Wood and Miller can quell some of our greater catching concerns? In the very least, these young men are showcasing they may actually both be progressing toward legitimate MLB back-up status...

Woods' K-to-BB ratio is really astounding. And Miller has been a pleasant surprise (to me, anyway). Add Quero & suddenly the catching situation looks quite a bit brighter.

Much further down the road, but I'm a little intrigued by young pup Rylan Mills, too.

The AAA Sounds play a doubleheader at Sugar Land, needing to sweep the evening to climb back into a series they trail 0-3. LHP Colton Gordon makes his 2nd start (5 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 5 Ks) since being acquired from the Astros. 1B Luke Adams has a splendid .969 OPS in 198 PAs.

I'm still out on Miller because his batted ball data is so bad but Wood looks really interesting. Feel like he's very similar to Liam Hicks on Miami. Very likely a backup catcher and if the defense improves could probably be a starting catcher.

I noted Sugar Land is a PCL team.  When did the Sounds start playing cross-over games?

I'm fairly sure (? I could be wrong) last year was the first season they did regular season PCL/Int'l League cross-over series. And, it isn't widespread. There are only a select few series just like this year.

It appears C Rylan Mills just hurt himself in some fashion during a RHP Jared Bonet 9th inning WP. Anyone have eyes on this? Wilson clinging to a 6-5 lead. One down. The WP advanced runners to 2nd and 3rd. No bueno! Hope Rylan is OK!

The pitch went right off of his glove side forearm as he was reaching for a wide pitch.

Unbelievable that Biloxi gets back-to-back HRs in the first then no hits until a triple in the 8th! And Shuckers pitching has not been very good.  Shuckers top prospect line up does have 7 walks. But they also have struck out 12 times so far. Yikes.  Fischer with 2Ks. Seems like he is good for 1-2 H, and 2K every night. So much for him cutting down on the Ks.  Biloxi trailing 8-4  yikes

t-Rats offense comes through, Payne with 2 hits (but unfortunately 2Ks as well). T-Rats win tonight.

Crow pitches 6 solid innings as Nashville ties 2-2in the night cap.

Ugh. Bonet and the Warbirds were one strike from a win.

Insult to injury: Kevin Garcia entered for the final 3 batters of the game, dropping Frias’ throw to the plate to allow the winning run to score.

Adding the other lineups (late - sorry) for posterity.

Wilson were aiming to claw back from a 1-3 series deficit at Charleston, with 20-year old LHP Joey Broughton making his 5th Low-A start (8th appearance).

Playing at South Bend, High-A Wisconsin came into Saturday trying to snap a 7-game losing skid, with RHP Josh Knoth also aiming for a bounceback after allowing 7 earned runs in last week’s start.
