Price For Tigers' Tarik Skubal 'Enormous'; Are Brewers Still In?

Gives up a bazillion hits, gives up his fair share of homers, walks his fair share of batters, and doesn’t strike out enough guys to make up for it.

Certainly would be a nice reliable starter that is controllable…maybe some upside via defense and our ‘pitching lab’. Someone would need to make him back into the guy that wasn’t even averaging one walk per nine innings. Ceiling seems limited enough that he should cost a lot less than Skubal…and evens then, he feels a lot like many of the guys we already have.

Umm…he had the lowest walk rate in the history of MLB through 100 starts. It has regressed a bit but is still elite. 

I’m maybe biased because I follow the Mariners and I’m a big Kirby fan. The guy is a pitching savant, he can change grips and adjust arm angles on the fly and he has Maddux-like control. He’s not another average pitching lab fix, Kirby would be the golden boy. We don’t need him to be a high K guy with our defense. 

The counter argument perhaps is that the Mariners also know how to teach pitching so maybe there is less room for him to learn, but I personally think he would thrive. Plus you’re getting two full years of him.

I would have no problem trading for Skubal, only if a longer-term contract can be reached before trade is finalized.  Here's a package I would be willing to offer.  2 Major league pitchers, Gasser LHSP and Sproat RHSP, 3 top 30 Brewers prospects, #4 Jett Williams 3B, SS, 2B, OF, #13 Josiah Ragsdale OF and #15 Luke Adams 1B-3B.

And that’s the thing- there’s no contract extension we can offer that can’t be easily countered by the likes of the Dodgers and Yankees. Those kind of teams can just throw out $400m+ contracts like Halloween candies.
