They've got the best record in MLB by 1.5 games in late August - I'd say whatever dynamic there is going on in the clubhouse, it's working.

Any sort of perceived clubhouse angst likely stems from its highest paid player being it's worst on-the-field producer at the moment, and other key vets slumping a bit (Contreras) or dealing with nagging injuries (Turang).  Also, plenty of youth still finding its way at the big league level (Pratt, Lara, young arms everywhere)

And there was an early season series (I can't remember which one), were Yelich seemed particularly animated, in a competitive way, and I raised an eyebrow wondering if he and some of the other vets were trying to send a message to the youngsters a little bit.

'twas against the White Sox.

I really think we should pay Bauers, within reason, if for no other reason than at some point we have to keep a strong voice in the locker room.

I completely agree that positive clubhouse guys are almost a necessity on a team, but we're also stuck taking guesses at who those people are and that there aren't other guys who are or would step up. Or also the ability of a manager to create those guys.

Or maybe there's a backup-backup INF or mopup reliever who can fill that role instead of paying Bauers $25m to do the same job.

And maybe the locker room is just fine right now but the team has been together for 5.5 months now nearly every day and it's been 95 degrees out and they're just exhausted because 162 games so that 40% of teams still make the playoffs is stupid.

Isn’t chemistry and “the clubhouse” just excuses made by losing teams? Each player is a professional and certainly realizes they have a job to do each game. I’m certain each Brewers player wants to win, and leadership is aligned in that goal.

Besides there are plenty of teams where players didn’t like each other or weren’t particularly close yet achieved great things: 70’s Oakland, 77-78 Yankees, Kobe-Shaq Lakers.
