The players brought in by Gutekunst's first three years that had a real postive impact are pretty much limited to Jaire Alexander (who was very good), Rashan Gary (who was very good when he wanted to be, which was only about half the time), Elgton Jenkins (who was very good) and then a couple of OK contributors like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and AJ Dillon.  I found a list of trades and I don't see a player they acquired that would be considered any sort of difference-maker (may have missed a name).  In terms of adding UFA or cut players, couldn't find a comprehensive list, but I can't remember anybody.  Seems like the first real big splash that Gutekunst made in free agency was the McKinney/Jacobs adds, but that came well after LaFleur's first three years.  Please point out any names I missed, but in terms of those first three years, it looks like the starters were 85+% Thompson acquisitions and most of the impact came from the Thompson years (but will certainly acknowledge Alexander of being an excellent cornerback and Jenkins being pretty much a rock on the offensive line).

 

You clearly missed one of my posts above where is listed out the key acquisitions in Gute's first two years.  Your post also is a great reminder of what selective memory looks like... You couldn't remember a single Free agent that Gute brought in... until McKinney or Jacobs.  Once TT left, people were celebrating at the Free Agent spending Gute did!  Of course, there was acknowledgement that he HAD to do it because there was no one worth extending because our depth was so bad.

They converted 68% of 4th down and less than 3 yards last year (17 attempts). If they stop going for it on 4th and 1, they'll be like the Badgers

I never celebrated TT's end, but your point holds. I was always a fan. His FA was annoying at times, but he did take swings (Peppers, Bennett). 

My biggest gripe was him was forgoing FA in favor or extending very average guys seemingly forever. Hawk, Burnett, etc. I always assumed they placed a premium on character fits, but it was annoying as a fan. 

All that said, they had numerous seasons with teams plenty good enough. 2011, 2014, the end of Rodgers tenure. Not finishing the job those years really has nothing to do with Ted in my opinion. 

When you don't win it, the fans will always clamor about where you're not great. That always wound up being the targets for Rodgers, who weren't always spectacular. But I again, always assumed TT's line of thought was that you had the best QB in the league and he should be able to get by with less. It allowed him to build elsewhere.

The only time that really happened was at the end of Rogers' tenure with the Pack and he was left with Davante Adams and a bunch of UDFAs. 

A career with Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, and Davante Adams made for pretty good WR coverage for most of Rogers' career. 

Now the defense on the other hand...

Nelson and Adams were magic, Jennings very good but not at the level of those 2 for me. Driver had a great career but was washing out by the time they won the Super Bowl. Jones is a local legend, but not anything special, and Cobb, I never got the obsession with the guy. He had one strong season and was a glorified role player outside of that. He's an example of a TT extension that never should have happened...but your overall point is correct, I never really understood what was so wrong with Aaron's receivers.
