They literally didn’t use their best reliever and their best lefty reliever.

They have plenty more to throw at us for a Game 4. It’s not like they are in danger of running out of pitching.

Morejon must be literally hurt and Miller came off of 40 pitches.

They celebrated like they won the series after squeaking this one out. It's over.

Chourio and Contreras get into trouble when they get pull happy.  Yesterday, they seemed to be pull happy.

Go with the pitch.  Square it up.

Contreras went 3-4 with a HR and a walk.

I’ve read the article and I don’t really subscribe to the theory that Vaughn would just suck if he played more. He has about 550 plate appearances as a Brewer now and has been remarkably consistent. It’s not like they’ve completely limited him to LH pitching as he’s faced more RHP.

I'm not saying he should be run into the ground but under 300 ABs in a full season is a little ridiculous.

It just seems more like a convenient way to explain away the playing time discrepancy rather than being anything based in real data.

I think they were giving Bauers an opportunity to showcase himself in his last year, and they'll do the same for Vaughn next year as our primary 1B. Then they'll hope some of the young guys are ready by 2027

Just my opinion, but I do think the player centric culture could be at play here.

Did you read the article?

Yes, you guys know you can present evidence and people can still disagree, right?

Using the logic of the article, you wouldn't start Vlad against a pitcher with a good slider because he hit .136 against sliders this year compared with .342 against four-seamers.

And what the article doesn't establish merely by showing Vaughn's four-seam/sweeper split is how much worse Vaughn is against sweepers than comparable MLB hitters, after accounting for the quality and location of the sweepers he's seeing. Good sweepers/sliders are obviously hard to hit. Struggling against them relative to four-seamers doesn't, by itself, establish that you're better off using a hitter part-time.

I'm also NOT someone screaming that Vaughn has to start tonight, because I don't know who you sit against a RHP. Bauers has been the guy all year; I'm not sitting him because of a couple ugly ABs. And you're sure as hell not sitting Yelich with the ABs he's having right now.

But here's the part I don't understand: if we're accepting the article's logic, shouldn't Vaughn be your starting 1B tonight?

Buehler throws his cutter/4-seamer/changeup about 54% of the time and slider/sweeper about 18%. His four-seamer has been getting hit all year. That sounds almost exactly like the type of RHP the article says Murphy has been choosing to start Vaughn against.

Hopefully if Mason Miller does pitch tonight, he doesn't channel his inner Fred Van Vleet.

... lets just hope he does it to "keep" the Pads within... 2-3-4 runs.
