They caught a very good prospect this time. Salome, who is listed at 5-foot-7 and 190 pounds, is a catcher with a fair amount of offensive potential. The Brewers were looking at him as their catcher of the future, though he wasn't likely to be ready until 2010. He was hitting .318/.341/.465 in 258 AB for Single-A Brevard County.

I'm so sad these guys are going. I got to watch them in West Virginia last year and down in Brevard this year. San Diego is very lucky. They're a good group of guys.

With the promotions of Gallardo, Parra and Braun, the suspension of Salome and now the trade of Inman, Thatcher and Garrison, the minor league system's depth has had its pants pulled down and whipped with a belt.

 

Can't complain too much if it means the Brewers are winning, but it looks like we very could well be out of BA's top 10 systems by the time next spring rolls around.

very true Toby. However, it's possible that this offseason the Brewers could lose some of Graffanino , Jenkins, Cordero, Linebrink, and Miller, and add up to 8 or 9 draft picks. So while the system might take a hit, it's possible that at this time next year we could have a huge new wave of talent

The post-trade roster adjustments begin:

 

Brevard County RHP's Robert Hinton and E.J. Shanks have been promoted to AA Huntsville. Hinton hasn't really done anything since his demotion to high-A to warrant a return to the Stars (20 hits in 12 1/3 IP), but Shanks' fast climb is certainly justified, as the submariner has been lights-out and takes his nearly 5.5 ground ball ratio to AA.

 

Moving up to Brevard County from West Virginia are RHP Travis Wendte and LHP Brae Wright. Wendte has been super in relief at low-A, and as a 24-year-old, needed this next challenge. Wright (5.87 ERA) has had a few spectacular starts with the Power, but many more of his 21 starts overall have been middling to poor. He already has 110.1 IP under his belt, so he may need to be limited innings-wise by season's end.

 

Somebody needs to go from AA to AAA, and Helena needs to send a couple of pitchers to West Virginia now. We should know more in the AM.

If losing Linebrink brings a draft pick between 15-30, plus another somewhere between the first and second around, that could be quite a haul. I will grant you that haul will pay off sometime in the future, but we do want the Brewers to win in 2012, too.

RHP Harold Mejia, the 19-year-old converted shortstop out of the Dominican Republic, has been placed on the 60-day disabled list with a season-ending injury (undisclosed). He had made three appearances with the Arizona Brewers this summer, appearances that had been technically termed "rehab". Apparently things did not go well.

Gosh, this has just been a depressing couple days. The Brewers top 2 prospects are gone (for different reasons, obviously) and an undrafted guy who worked his way up to AAA and looked ready to help now is just thrown away. Geez, I'm not sure why I feel so bad about this sequence of events. Oh well, what can you do.

RHP Donovan Hand, the Brewers' 14th round selection this past June out of Jacksonville (Alabama) State University, has been promoted to West Virginia from Helena.

 

It wouldn't surprise anyone if RHP Roque Mercedes returns to the Power after his start against Great Falls on Friday, but that's not official.

Against independent league batters this year, Tucker had made 25 relief appearances covering 24.1 innings (1.48 ERA, 14 saves, only 11 hits allowed, 4 HBP, 17 BB, 37 K, and a .133 BA against. Looks to be pretty imposing to a batter with those Mitch Williams-type numbers.

I would not call them surprising, Mass. They might have to release/demote a couple guys with bad numbers and/or non-big league stuff.

The Brewers dropping their 13th pitcher won't cause Nashville to release anyone, as it will probably be Parra down and Gross back up since MKE only has 4 OFs right now. (Depending on when - if they make the change before Gross' mandatory time in AAA is up it could be V-Rot, NIx, or Dillon up for a couple of days until Gross can come back up.) Unless by "surprising" you mean V-Rot, Nix, or Dillon being called up.

 

If anyone is released, my bet is that it is Charles Thomas or Jose Macias, but I'd think they could find a creative way to put someone on the DL first. They could easily move Salas or DiFelice back down to AA as well.

 

One thing that is interesting that I just noticed - every one of Nashville's OFs bats left-handed.
