I don't really get why you have to take him out once he gets a base runner. Just so he can't get a loss? It's an infield hit. Sheets is still the best pitching option right now.

I agree.

That's stupid. Ben's a big boy and can win or lose it on his own. He doesn't need protecting from himself. You at least let him face one more. It was a cheap hit.

Put the book down and manage this game. There's no way you lose if you keep Sheets in.

Turnbow? With a runner already on base? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/sick.gif

For those who shrug their shoulders when I complain about "formula managing", this is what I'm talking about.

No book can tell you how to handle this situation, because the book doesn't know how well Sheets has pitched in this game.

If the intention was to take him out after one runner got on with a cheap infield hit, then Turnbow should have started the ninth.

I don't get why this is such a common move by managers. I can't think of a single closer who would prefer to start an outing with runners already on base in the ninth. You get in a rhythm as a closer, and something like this is anti-rhythm for most of these guys.

I just don't get it. Win, lose, or extras, it's a bad move IMNSHO.

1 out

Maddux out to the mound to talk with Turnbow.

Runners at first and third for Carlos Delgado, a lefty.

Bow bluffs a throw to third.

Delivers, outside for a ball. 1-0.

Turnbow looks in to Miller.

Grounded to first! 3-2-5-2-5.

Two outs

Juan Encarnacion is up.

Turnbow fires, fouled straight back for an 0-1 count.

Weeks with the stab! Has trouble getting out of his glove! up to his knees! throws in time!!!

Game over! Ben Sheets wins a game!!!!!!!!!!!!
