9/3/04 Game thread? Brewers? Reds? Anyone?

We're up 3-0 in the first inning. Does anyone even care?

Or is everyone tuned into a meaningless Packers pre-season game in which they're getting mercilessly b**ch-slapped by the Titans?

wait, is it possible to reach .500 still? I mean, first Helms homers, next comes Obermueller regaining his 2003 form, then the Brewers at .500 again, and finally the Vikings win the Super Bowl

that right there is why Hall shouldn't play everyday. Still, who knows...next year he might draw a few more walks and cut down the errors enough to be a good starter. I still think his best position is 3rd base as he doesn't have a chance to think, just react.

7 runs yesterday? 7 runs in 1.1 innings tonight? Where the heck has this offense been all year? So nice of Jenks and Pods to finally start hitting in September.

Okay, if you were to go back, I'm pretty sure you'd find that Obermueller has done fine in games until he's been pushed that one extra inning. But I have no problem starting him. He was great last year, and has had several very good starts this year. His sinker and slider are solid. Plus, we're out of the race. Why not start him and let him audition for a spot next year. He could possibly be a good guy for the Burba-role of long-reliever/short-reliever/mopup guy.

After pitching in Spring Training, I'd send him over to minor league camp to play a position, like RF or DH or 2b, just to get him some at bats. I remain convinced that we're better off with a 13-man pitching staff, and if we had two or three (Cappy?) pitchers capable of pinch hitting effectively, we could still keep position players on the bench in case of emergencies.

That could be a turning point for Obermueller. man on, none out, Casey and Dunn coming up, and he gets out of it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed Wes

Wow, Obermueller with a single on a pitch that Bennett, Moeller, Hall, Ginter, and Helms haven't come within a foot of all year long. That outside breaking ball has killed our catchers and infielders, but apparently not Obermueller
