3 games under .500 with 4 games left to the All Star Break. My gut feeling, a win today followed by a heartbreaking loss tomorrow. That would be a good summary of the season.

I think they're going to get the split and get a little hot, myself, but of course that's my HUGE bias speaking. I really do think they will snap out of their slumber, even for a little while, just to give us some fun again. Man, I hope I'm right!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Helms start and Branyan sit. Helms is a carreer .444 hitter against Wood. Of course Yost doesn't look at stats so we may be alright...

Here's what I would like to see, if only for tonight:

I hope we can put in a third baseman in that line-up too http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. No, i understand the third base bag is more efficient at stopping the ball than the Caveman

Tonight's Lineups:

Cubs

1. Macias, CF

2. Grudzielanek, 2B

3. Sosa, RF

4. Alou, LF

5. Lee, 1B

6. Ramirez, 3B

7. Barrett, C

8. Gonzalez, SS

9. Wood, P

Brewers

1. Podsednik, CF

2. Counsell, SS

3. Jenkins, LF

4. Branyan, 3B

5. Overbay, 1B

6. Grieve, RF

7. Hall, 2B

8. Moeller, C

9. Capuano, P

Once again, it's nice to see that our best hitter probably won't get his first at-bat until the second inning.

Check this out... the Cubs' lineup is almost sorted in reverse order by on-base average. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Macias - .299

Grudzielanek - .327

Sosa - .357

Alou - .341

Lee - .373

Ramirez - .364

Barrett - .346

Gonzalez - .234

The only way they could do better is if they changed it to this.

Gonzalez - .234

Macias - .299

Grudzielanek - .327

Alou - .341

Barrett - .346

Sosa - .357

Ramirez - .364

Lee - .373

As much as we complain about Nedley's lineup construction, at least we don't have Dusty's Bizzaro lineup, where high on-base guys get to bat fifth, sixth, and seventh and low on-base guys get to bat first and second.

Ok, why put the the C and P together? Why have Lyle hit 5. I'm OK with Russell, but move him down. Try Grieve in the 2 spot. Craig @ 8. Maybe this?

Pods

Grieve

Billy

Lyle

Geoff

Branyan

Moeller

Craig

Cappy.

Just a thought, but it's Ned's world and we just live in it.

Okay, the Overbay batting 5th thing is abominable, but the fact that Branyan is starting ahead of Helms for the 2nd day in a row is GREAT news. Because it's not about Branyan being particularly good, it's about Yost finally showing signs of ending his Wes Helms crush. A manager ALWAYS puts his starter back in after one day off to send a message that the starter hasn't lost his job - but here Helms sits. Let's hope he'll give Branyan more looks. As we all agree - it can't get any worse!

Wow. What a pathetic lineup.

Why is Overbay batting BEHIND K'ing or Bomb machine Branyan. His run production will be dramatically down rest of the season.

Just reading the preview on the Brewers site, and it sunk in that this is the first time all year we've been 3 games under .500. It's been a bad month, but at the same time, it's "nice" to read that at the very end of July instead of May. Not saying I'm happy, but things are getting better.

Maybe next year we'll have an offense.

If Helms was doing that well against Kerry Wood in his career, I really do question whether or not Ned Yost looks at the stats. Oh well, I'd rather see Branyan in there anyway!

Very nice to see Grieve and Capuano contributing to 2 runs (already!) Hope this is a high scoring game for the Crew and that the Cubbies are shut down.
