05/27/2004 Brewers (Sheets) vs. Dodgers (Weaver)

Posted

I've always wanted to start a game-day thread! Now, if i can only find that "sticky topic thing"...

Brewers going for their eighth attempt to go three games above .500 this season as they look to take the three game series from the Dodgers. Ben Sheets takes the mound and hopefully the crew can give him some run support for a change.

Go Brewers!

It seems every time they go for this they throw out some crap lineup. Hopefully this time, especially in front of the home crowd they put out a Hall and Grieve lineup in addition to the regulars. If it is Consull and Clark again, they are just asking for another loss, no matter what the results actually are.

Okay, they are undefeated (1-0) in games that I go to so far this year. So its pretty much in the bag that they win this one. And don't give me any of this small sample size hoopla. Face it, I am just a good luck charm.

Well, I am pretty certain Counsell will be in the lineup, especially after Billy seem to have some problems last night bunting Scotty over and then getting thrown out twice trying to steal, but I do think Grieve will be in there instead of Brady Clark (thank god).

Real different look to the lineup today!

Scott

Councell

Grieve

Jenks

Overbay

Ginter

Hall

Moeller

Sheets

5 lefties in a row and then boom 4 righties. Very Interesting line-up! Why are good hitting catchers hard to find. I can only really think of two we've had...Ted Simmons and Dave Nilsson.

Sheets third attempt at getting us +3. 3rd time is the charm.

Now THIS is a good lineup!!! Doesn't it look so much stronger? Yost finally came to his senses. Let the lineup speak for itself today. Well, I don't know....those shadows...

Today's lineups are brought to you by Creativity , which apparently Nedley is discovering.

 LOS ANGELES MILWAUKEE AVG HR RBI AVG HR RBI Cesar Izturis SS .298 2 15 Scott Podsednik CF .262 4 14 Shawn Green 1B .220 7 20 Craig Counsell SS .250 1 7 Milton Bradley CF .259 6 21 Ben Grieve RF .247 3 10 Juan Encarnacion RF .231 6 23 Geoff Jenkins LF .265 4 24 Robin Ventura 3B .262 0 6 Lyle Overbay 1B .352 6 40 Jason Grabowski LF .239 4 8 Keith Ginter 3B .269 7 16 David Ross C .178 2 5 Bill Hall 2B .288 4 20 Alex Cora 2B .308 3 13 Chad Moeller C .240 2 13 Jeff Weaver RHP .286 0 0 Ben Sheets RHP .000 0 0 (3-5, 4.92) (4-3, 2.86)

Five left-handers in a row to start off the order? This is freakin' crazy, and I love it.

Even if I think this isn't the best lineup I'll give Yost props for creativity. Even if it is misplaced creativity, beggars can't be choosers. As long as the stupid no-change lineup has been disrupted I regard that as a positive.

I actually thought Ned was going to give Durrington the start at 3rd. Just had a hunch and I was wrong. I do like the line-up. Now let's have an offensive outburts..when is the last time we've scored 3 runs in an inning? Heck even 2?

I like the five lefties at the top of the order, only because the Dodgers only have one LHP in the bullpen, and righties are hitting .267 off of him while lefties are hitting .292 off of him.

Anybody notice that Weaver is positively Helms-like in his home/road splits this season. Here's hoping he continues his struggles on the road.

i hadn't looked at the splits for home/road on weaver...but he's been good the last , month...improving...perhaps to the weaver of old....the scary thing is that just a couple of years ago...i coulda sat here and guaranted all of you that weaver was about to have a breakout start...he might not...that lineup should get on base a ton...but i', still slightly worried that we are gonna seee a 12 k, 3 hit shutout from weaver...

here's to a pitchers duel...with sheets winning 2-1

ANOTHER chance for the crew to get 3 games above water. they have lost ever other chance at this lately. It would a very nice win if they can pull it off!

Nedley needs to be ejected more often. Apparently he took the time to look over the lineup and make some tweaks that he must be too busy for during the regular season. With the exception of not starting Spivey, I like it.

Holy Batting Order Shake-up Batman!!

I like this new look. I think Grieve will get on base twice today.

Why does our offense take the day off when Sheets starts? I think we'll finally get to 3 over .500. I think Weaver might get smacked around a bit.

Are big crowds expected this weekend? (Or at least big by recent standards?)

If so, then the Brewers will probably win today, thus setting up their big-crowd curse for the holiday weekend.

If not, then anything's possible.

Wish I could go today. It's bound to be warmer than Wednesday's game.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I'm hoping for about a 3-1 Brewers' victory, as I hope to see a pitchers duel between two of my favorites

good jump there for Pods. He almost beat it, and would have if the throw hadn't been perfect. Gotta give some props to the catcher on that one
