Principessa21 + TooLiveBrew to Portland for cash, conditional draft pick(s)

AP--The duo were shipped out today from Madison, WI in exchange for minimal cash compensation & potential late-round draft picks, depending on their performance in Portland. Though their presence may be missed in the Madison region, the chance to get in at ground floor for the up-and-coming Portland area left Principessa21 feeling, "excited - yea, [i'm] real excited to be a part of something new...the chance to build from the ground up is a new challenge, and I know [i'm] up to it." "It's certainly a whole new region out there - we have some heavy scouting to do if we want to be competitive, but we're competitive by nature, so this will be an enjoyable challenge." No word yet on exact figures for compensation, but sources estimate the total value of the deal to be in the neighborhood of a four-digit sum.

Portland got ripped off. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif

Good luck guys. There will always be beer and softball.

I too, lived in Portland. Very liberal, and just remember, in Oregon, you legally cannot fill up your gas tank. Craziness, I know, but that's the law. The first time I stopped for gas when I moved, I got out and was about to start filling up and about got knocked over by the guy telling me I can't fill up my gas tank. I ended up going over the river to Vancouver and filling up. If you want to know anything more about Portland PM me.

Yes, Oregon and New Jersey.

I was in Portland in 2000 and went to put gas into my tank. I pull up to an island thinking self-service and an attendant comes to my car. So I drive around to another island and this dude keeps following me around. I got freaked and drove off to another station only to realize what the situation was.

Portland won't know what hit 'em. Good luck guys! If/when you ever come back to Mad-town let me know, there is more debauchery to be had.

Portland has MUCH better beer.

Welcome to the Northwest guys. We're friendly out here. Well everybody but me that is.

Do you know which side of the river you're going to live on? PDX is VERY bi-polar. Hippies on the East, Yuppies on the West.

The Sellwood neighborhood is the place to be.

Make sure you tell Mayor Dave of Madison how great Portland's light rail system is.

I have a hard time buying into the Mayor's plan when one of his stated reasons for it is that it's "cool."

Well we are currently in Pierre, SD. 1/3 of the trip is done. I'm checking bank accounts, box scores, celeb gossip as I wait for TLB to get ready. As someone who never traveled out here before a couple observations:

1. I have seen more cows in SD than in WI.

2. SD has been the prettiest part of the trip so far, but this is some state capital.

3. I have seen two anti-abortion and one anti-animal activist billboard, which just makes me warm inside.

4. Even though the Sturgis bike meeting thing is this week, I have seen 20x more bikers going east on 90.

5. Never order walleye from a townie bar. (TLB learned this one.)

PS I'm from Jersey, so the whole can't fill up the gas tank is not new to me. You gas tank-fillers are the weirdos! But I did go to graduate school in NY, so I do know how to, but at one point on this trip, we stopped at this farmer-owned gas station. I think the pump was from 1950. I stared at it for a good couple minutes. Thankfully someone came out and did it for us.

I doubt either one of us will check in again for awhile, esp since we're getting extra inningshttp://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif, but we just want to thank people for the nice thoughts. And if anyone who lives/ lived in Portland would contact me or TLB via yukumail, that would be fabulous! We both have never even visited the city and only know a couple friends of friends.

I've made that trip a lot in my days -- I hope you go through Coeur d'alene -- It has lots of white supremacists, and a lot of beautiful water.

I totally dig South Dakota, and Montana for that matter as well.

Have a safe trip.

Quick question so I know what to do when in NJ or Oregon: Gas station attendant that pumps your gas - customary to tip, or no?

ccbrew, I'd say no - though I had the same pause myself. Portland, so far, is great. Plus, there are several (nearly all, in fact) sports bars just a few blocks away that have MLB Extra Innings. Just finished watching the Yanks rally from a 3-0 defecit to tie, only for Mo to give all 3 runs back in the top of the 10th! Oh well, got the Crew tonight...only thing is that for us, the game starts at 5p! Craziness. Still adjusting to that.

The City seems incredible - I already love the MAX, and have found some sweet microbrews as well (if anyone who can get it hasn't tried Deschutes' Cascade Ale, go get some). Headed over to PGE Park (home of SD Padres' AAA Portland Beavers) to gape through the fences & watch the game last night (it's 2 or 3 blocks from our apt), only to discover that every home game you can enter for free after the 7th inning stretch! Sweetness! So I watched the rest of the game on a gorgeous evening, and learned Thursdays you can't enter for free, because they do a $6 entry, $2 Miller Lite special on Thursdays. What a bummer.

Gotta run, as I'm at the downtown library, and am supposed to be productive - as in, work on resume, get a job, etc. I'll catch all my boys & girls later -- our internet, tv, phone, etc. is getting hooked up on Thursday.

I think Portland has the most stripper places in the western hemisphere per capita. I don't know if strippers are your thing, or if that is part of your resume work history -- but something to keep in mind I suppose

FTJ, I believe you are correct, or at least it sure feels like it. For as much as there's a church and/or a bar on every block here in Wisconsin, there's about a strip club on every block in Portland. Not that I frequented them, but you notice after a while.
