Damian Miller Contract Status

I've noticed in some of the Trade Rumor/Proposals posts trying to figure out the 2008 Brewers. Some of the rosters have Miller off of them. Doesn't Miller have one more year after this year with the Crew? If so, is there any option with it or is it guaranteed?

I really hope they choose to try to resign him after the year. He continues to be my favorite role player on the Brewers. I'd be sad to see him go.

Heck I'd stick him in over Estrada at starting catcher, but that is why I'm not calling the shots. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I noticed that Wise is making 1000k next year...that's an interesting number http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Regarding Miller, I'm in agreement that it would be great to have him back in the $1-1.5M area. It doesn't seem like that would be too far-fetched either, unless he decides to retire. It's not like he's pushing for more playing time, and he's definitely not going to go somewhere else looking for a starting job. He's made it very clear that once every 5 days or so is plenty.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

I'm hoping for a one year deal for Miller next year to back up Ponch while Sweet Lou figures out AAA pitching. The following year catching WOAH SOLVDD?

I was talking about this to some friends yesterday, I'm hoping they get a catcher in free agency, then leave Miller as the back-up. He's only 37, he's probably got another year or 2 of being a back-up before he manages at West Virginia.

It could be a semi-decent year for free agent catchers this offseason, but with Estrada already on the roster, we won't be going after any of them not named Damien Miller. To echo the other comments, I'd assume Miller would come back for a one-year deal. Then again, I assumed the same thing about Jeff Cirillo last year at this time.

I didn't think that Miller would play after this year, I thought he would retire, but he is quietly piecing together a nice season and like some of you said probably could put another one or two years in his career. I don't think that there is anyone else in the system that the Brewers would be interested in to do the backup role next year.

Did Miller get a ring with the D-Backs? If so, that would be one less reason to come back. But I have a feeling if his body feels good after a year as a backup, he'll probably have an "I'll be back if they'll have me" attitude and return as a backup for next year.

As long as Miller's healthy, why wouldn't he come back for $1 to $1.5 million to be a backup? That's good money, a lot better than coaching or practically anything else Miller can do, he presumably enjoys the game, he gets to play in his home state, and the Brewers should be contenders next year. Granted, he doesn't need the money, but he'll have plenty of time to enjoy his retirement in a couple of years.
