Ted Simmons said he learned baseball right away from a gentleman who simplified it ABC: The first guy gets a double the next guy hits it to the right side moving the runner to third and the the third guy hits the ball to the outfield. One run two outs right? But what if the attack to RF gets a hit and what if the outfield shot is a hit. We just saw a team that Simba played on and executed that perfectly.

 

Does that make us worse or that we need to learn or is that impossible with this group?

I think Simmons has had problems with his heart -- I know he had to resign from the Pirates because of that. I don't think he would be looking to be a manager

Ned respects Ted so much and believes in this way of playing. So why can't they or is it why don't they? You hear young so much but if Ned is teaching this why is it not happening. The success of the young players makes them to want to swing hard at everything instead of placing the ball specifically with 2 strikes.

Any time step 1 of 3 easy steps is "Hit a double", you might have a problem.

I don't see a problem with the team completing steps 2 and 3, I see struggles with the "hit a double" step. They wait for two outs to hit the double.

The run expectancy of a man at second with no outs is 1.189 runs. If the Brewers perfectly executed "ABC" ball given normal leadoff double rates, there is still 95% of their offense missing. Long live the homerun!

If Fielder leads off the third inning with a double, do you really want to have Braun always hit the ball to the right side? I don't want to neuter the teams best hitter in the third inning and for all practical purposes ruin any chance of a big inning, even if it means not scoring.

 

There is a time and a place for trying to score a single run, but I am not a big fan of it in many instances.

If the leadoff guy gets on first base, that should theoretically be enough to get him to home plate. Of course, it doesn't always work out that way, but there's so much that can happen if guys simply don't strike out, or don't hit a weak popup for an out.
