well, don't want to say toldya so, but, unless you're compulsive, you should always wait a few months on technology.

I don't really think anybody is getting screwed here..they weren't going to be $600 forever, and the additional $200 was for the people that just "had to" have it. If they had the cash to spend, more power to them. They did so with the understanding that they are 'overpaying' to be the first one on the block to have one.

Apple is denying that it is falling short of its sales estimates..doesn't look like investors are convinced though.

The bigger news though is the iPod Touch, the iPhone, without the Phone. :P

I'd say it's more the iPod, without the storage.

Sure nice to see Apple go big on the biggest iPod this year, tho. 160 GBs means I won't have to buy another one for a few years at least.

Yeah, it's too bad the Touch is basically a souped up Nano. It won't be useful until it's much bigger, which I'm sure will happen in the next year or two.

Cool, I think my Cingular contract is up soon and I can maybe upgrade to it. I think it's a cool concept of a phone, but is an updated hardware revision out? I'm always leary of Gen 1s.

As someone who uses his 30 GB iPod primarily for audio & video podcasts, I can see the appeal of the iPod Touch. The small screen (on the 5.5 Gen iPod) doesn't do the greatest job displaying watchable video. Having a much larger device that is almost entirely view-screen has real merit. I'm also fairly certain that I have under 8GB of data on mine right now (music & video).

It's not compelling enough for me to want to buy the iPod Touch (or an iPhone), but that's the one I would buy if I didn't already own a perfectly good iPod.

I'm very happy and content with my 30 GB video ipod. I don't plan on updating to anything from that for a very long time.

And Im happy and content with my very simple cell phone that simply calls, texts and can hold maybe 10 pictures.

If you own an ipod you should rip the software off it and install Rockbox on it instead. No auto-compression, Can play Flac and other files (yay, lossless). Doesn't look as pretty but makes it much more usefull.

The credit is a nice gesture..but a very shrewd one. I think to say that it's "nice of him" as though it was a gesture completely out of goodwill would be a bit of a mistake. It covered up a potential PR nightmare, and people still have to physically go to a Apple store or online to iTunes to spend their $100. Why not a $100 check in the mail or a $100 credit to their next phone bill instead?

But with that said, something is better than nothing. At least it will encourage people to worry less about shelling out a premium for their next product.

i second both of these comments. i love my ipod...even though i would have never in a million years bought one for myself.

i also still dont get the hate for ipods. i suppose if you had a bad experience with one. i have had to reset the thing once or twice, but beyond that it has been fantastic (knocking on wood)
