Can you imagine what we'd be saying now if we'd traded Thatcher, Inman, and Garrison for Gagne instead of Linebrink?

1-2, 9.00 ERA, 3 blown saves. I'd be livid.

It is possible though, that Gagne would have thrived against National League hitters (maybe). Then again, if he's blowing saves with the players Boston has he'd probably be far more likely to do it here.

It's impossible to say "what if" with Gagne. He could've been totally different in the NL. The argument that he'd be terrible no matter who he went to is a pointless argument.

What has happened to Gagne? I know he hasn't done that well, but does anyone know why? Command? Velocity?

From what I read on him is his velocity isn't were it used to be in years past. The major part of his success was his high 90's fastball. It's now a low 90's fastball. Not bad but not great. Since he's now a differant type of pitcher now I'd want to see more than a couple months of success before I would trust that he can be as effective as he used to be. With relief pitchers it's just to easy to look better or worse than they really are in such a small amount of time. I wouldn't be at all surprised that luck played a bigger part in his earlier success this year than it's playing now when he's melting down.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Apparently he's battling shoulder issues, which is why he was shut down for part of late August. He's also not done very well in non-save situations, which some people think is a hard thing to transition to after being a closer.

All I know is, it's super mega awesome to watch him, Okajima, and Papelbon all melt down at the exact same time. I'm giving up baseball for a less painful hobby, like removing my toenails one by one.

Would Gagne have been worse than Turnblow has been recently? (including tonight, of coursehttp://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/mad.gif)
