Per MLB radio,

Elijah Dukes was traded to the Nationals for a minor league player. Did not name the minor league player, but I'm sure that information will come out soon.

Dukes and Lastings in the same outfield, are they sure they dont want to add Milton Bradley to round an all crazy outfield. I guess the padding on the walls will have a double meaning now.

I would love to see an intra-team brawl in the outfield.... please please.

I wouldn't. I'd definitely take a shot on a guy with that much talent. There's zero risk here for the Nats.

I actually like what Jim Bowden is doing this offseason, he ships pretty much dead weight to the Mets for Milledge, then gets Dukes.

thats definatley a move we would of made in the mid 90's. I know it was for a low price, but he didn't do much in the bigs to warrant playing not even taking into account his off the field problems.

Dead weight, really? Church is a pretty good score for the Mets, as he is actually proven at the plate, and Schneider is a solid overall catcher. Bowden keeps on showing that he is far too in love with toolsy outfielders.

He's assembled some interesting talent in Washington, but he is still severly lacking in impact bats, the type of hitters that can carry a team and make players like Milledge, Dukes, Kearns, Pena and even Ryan Zimmerman look that much better.

Oh yeah, and he still needs starting pitching, and a lot of it. Sounds a lot like his days with the Reds.

Washington Nationals = Oakland Raiders

I like the deal for the Nationals however. Really not a lot of risk here. If he doesn't pan out - just cut your losses.

The Nationals need talent. Milledge and Dukes are talented.

I doubt he'll ever amount to anything at this point. Still, I always think it's a good move for weak teams to acquire cheap talent, even when it comes with an attitude. He has options, so they can see how he works in the minors without a gigantic risk.

Maybe you forgot they already have Dmitri Young. According to today's paper, he is being used to "babysit" Elijah next year. Since Nick Johnson should be back at 1st, they will have to put Dmitri somewhere.

it's a great trade. I' m sure glad the brewers didn't make it. the rays are definitely clearing room for upton to be their full time CF. Dukes has power, but also has a bad leg. I have visions of kirk Gibson limping around the bases.
