Running Shoes

There was a post that touches on this some time ago - but I can't find it now. So forgive my asking...

Can anyone make recommendations of where to get a good pair of running shoes?

I am looking for a place that will actually measure my foot, test my gate and fit me with the correct type of shoe. (Cushioned, Motion Control or etc) I understand that pronation has a significant role in the type of shoe you should wear - and would like to ensure that I am fitted correctly.

Looking on-line, I found the Good Feet Store (Thanks Bill Schroeder!) and Rodiez's Running Store in Milwaukee as two options. But I am not 100% sure they can offer what I am looking for...

I am looking for something in the Milwaukee area - north side preferably.

The New Balance Store (Stan's) in Brookfield usually has great selection. There's also a high-end place at Mequon Road & I-43. Can't remember the name but they work w/foot doctors if you need a special fit.

New Balance 902's. Bright Orange. Flashy.

Oh yeah, and extremely comfortable giving great support. I've run nearly 600 miles in one pair and it's time to pick up another pair.

I like New Balance shoes, but given a choice, I'd opt for Mizunos or Asics. They just seem to hold up better to my sweaty, disgusting feet.

As a guy witrh 25 years experience, my only recommendation: In-Step.

If you got to Rodiez's, all you're going to get is some high school kid handing you a pair of shoes and saying "How do these feel?".

In my experience, it is important to get the ugliest shoes you can find. If you get a pair of shoes that look like something the Fresh Prince would wear, you will run faster so nobody sees you wearing them.

I have an awful pair of yellow and purple spikes from high school that I keep around for just this reason.

You mean the place on Buffalo Street in Milwaukee?

I did go yesterday. I think they were college kids - but the quote was spot on! I left without purchasing anything.

Edit: I wasted my 1000th post on this. D'oh!

In-Step has four locations. I'm familar with Tom Labish and the staff at the Mequon Road site. They have a treadmill and high-speed film (if neccesary) to analyze your gait.

I haven't been to the one in the Third Ward (Buffalo St. ?), but I'm sure their staff is up to snuff.

I don't think the treadmill would cost anything. A few moments is enough to analyze the strides of most runners. I know they would charge for filming/taping. You can call and ask.
