3 cent piece!

I love cleaning! I found 5 dollars scattered around my room.

 

Then I come across a thing my Great Grandpa gave me. Two 3 cent pieces dated 1865, in MINT condition.

 

I have been looking around at prices, and they vary HUGE from $22 dollars each to $225.

 

Sweet find, I might ask the people who work at the coin store how much they are worth.

Well, heres the thing, they were on a cardboard thing, so i took them off because the cardboard was dented, so now I have to get the glue/paper, off the back and its hard. Im putting them in jewelry cleaner, that should hopefully work!

 

They are a 1865 and a 1862

 

The 1862, I believe is the smallest US coin, man it is tiny! Very thin!

That's a really cool find. Makes me wonder how anyone ever convinced people that there's a totally practical use for a 3-cent piece!

The penny is a total waste. It costs the government more to produce a penny then it's worth. Down with the penny! Bring back the 3 center.

They should get rid of the penny and create a 5 cent piece. That would make more sense.

I don't mind pennies after seeing the Euros. 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 euro, 2 euro. That's 8 different types of coins. However, tax is already included in most purchases, so you don't have to deal with the ones under 10 very often.

 

After dealing with change for a couple of years, I pulled out a buffalo nickel from about 1905 and a few pennies from 1930-1950. It's surprising how many older coins are still in circulation.

Nickels cost more to make than $.05 as well.

 

Money used to belong to the holder. (Meaning you can deface your money in anyway you see fit) Now money is actually no long your property. The government made it illegal to collect pennies and nickels en mass for the purpose of melting them down to sell the metal.

 

Thanks to spike in precious metals in the past two years - that was actually happening.

I collect coins and by cleaning that coin you most likely lowered the value of it. I know it seems strange since I'm sure it looks nice and shiny now, but when you clean a coin it creates little imperfections (like scratches, rub marks, etc.) that lower the value.

Well, I had to clean it because it was glued to a paper for some reason. The glue barely came off.

The smallest denomination should be the dime. It makes sense. It's the smallest coin. The pennies and nickels of the world should rot in couches and everything should be moved up a decimal place.

Just as an analogy... I have a pile of baseball cards from the 1930s that are glued into scrapbooks. That's what people did in those days. They're staying that way unless I decide to find an expert who can deal with it.

I wish Currency went like casinos. I like $1, 5, 25, 100. Heck, I don't mind the $10 or $50. I just don't get why we need a $20. I also wouldn't mind $2's in greater circulation if they'd ever find a $1 coin that people would accept.

Well, casinos do have 1¢, 2¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, and 50¢ machines. Of course, they don't use coins anymore.

 

How about the Bahamas? Apparently they still have a 15¢ coin (not generally circulated), a 50¢ bill, and a $3 bill.
