The Padres are looking for someone to blow them away for Juan Soto

Intriguing...but I wouldn't want to part with Chourio or Quero in the deal - would need to include 1-2 of the young MLB-ready OFs (Frelick, Mitchell, Wiemer) plus a high end arm (Uribe? Misiorowski?) and a low level lotto ticket, with the thought being after Soto leaves any OF void would get readily filled by Chourio.  If the price is steeper than that, and it probably would be, I would pass.

This just in: EVERY GM is looking for someone to "blow them away" with a deal for anyone on their roster.

Best I would do is Frelick and Quero. Ironically, it is almost exactly a "fair" deal according to BTV. Honestly, I don't know if I'd do it if given the chance.

The correct answer here then is....so blow them away. Very simple, very easy. 

The prospect cost will surely be too high. I can't imagine they would pull the trigger without chourio or both of black/mis, and those offers probably include players to go with them. I really like this potential 2 year window but don't want to get stuck down by the pirates beyond 2024.

It really is tempting, especially if you intend to bring everyone back next season. It would be the all in thing we have all pined for in the Burnes/Woodruff years. Plus, if you win the WS this year you can pull a Marlins and have a garage sale in the offseason and rebuild. No to Chourio but anything else I could probably learn to live with if we are talking just 2 top prospects and change.

I do wonder what the cost would be on someone like Soto. Not sure how "simple" the situation would be, though. The scenario you suggest actually sounds quite complicated. 

They probably would need chourio but if not they can take anyone else.

I don't particularly care, but I've seen people posting it on Twitter and different places. Anything that brings fans in and that's a VERY stupid thing, but it just shows some swagger and makes one of the dullest "plays" in baseball mildly entertaining. So I'm all for that. 

I'm all for Tatis. I hated when as a rookie, he hit a 2nd grand slam and he had to deal with the other team yelling at him, but our team as well. I love seeing personality in the game...and sometimes that includes the heels. A guy like Carlos Gomez or...every Cards player in the last 30 years. 

I don't really see it as showing up pitchers either. At least compared to any other sport. Guys do something, they celebrate and do whatever. 

I also remember when Griffey Jr was considered disrespectful for the backward hat in BP and things like that-that I thought benign.

I've been waiting for someone who likes doing these deep digs to go through all the Padres trades and come up with a team comprised of Padres prospects that were traded away.

I know that bullpen would be...incredible. They still get to keep guys like Tatis. Prospects acquired for veterans they traded away. I bet THAT team would be ~100M cheaper and much better with an elite-elite farm system.

I only pickup Soto if you are acquiring at least another bat as well. It is clear Atlanta is the front runner in the NL so we would need to upgrade to get around their level. (assuming they don't add as well)

Does this lineup and our pitching re-enforcements give us a chance?

Yes I know bites of the apple is the philosophy but this would be our best team in a while. If you don't feel like this will give us a decent shot, stick with Frelick and Tellez.

The only thing about Soto is that he's been playing through a finger injury all season. Just got an MRI on it Thursday.
