  1. Ok...there are more than I thought....Was Overbay really acquired by Melvin? If so, he has been there a long time. I guess the point I am failing to make is....i don't know if I trust Melvin anymore....on the flipside it could be a lot worse...ugh.
  2. sorry http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. Oh god not this again. The Yankees wanted the Brewers to pay some of Cameron's salary and Melky Cabrera is HORRIBLE. You want to talk about an over hyped Yankee prospect? Example number one is Melky Cabrera the guy is nothing more than a 4th or 5th OF and yet is glorified as an all star for some reason. Cameron for Cabrera would have been one of the worst trades in a long time and if Melvin would have done that trade he should have been fired on the spot for doing that. Lets put Melky in perspective here he is worse defensively than Gomez and he is probably going to be worse offensively than Gomez.I'm sorry, but keeping Cameron got us nothing. Gomez sucks....he is a Mets overhyped POS. The Twins couldn't wait to unload him after a year. Cabrera might be overhyped...I'll give you that, but to say that he is worse than Gomez....ouch....I don't think so....plus he is a switch hitter which is a nice concept on our out of balanced lineup. Was Melky the end all....heck no, but I'd rather have him and Hardy (or trade Hardy for something else) than nothing and Gomez.
  4. I get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think of Melvin dealing Hart, Prince , and or Weeks. It seems as though everytime we add players via trade we take steps backwards. I just don't have the confidence I once did in Melvin. He is a typical Brewer type....mediocre to slightly above average. I doubt any of the players we get in return for Prince will be worth a damn and will likely be "just bodies" Melvin seems to wait too long to pull the trigger on deals (Mike Cameron for Melky Cabreara) or what we hear is complete BS. (which is possible) Garza might be a nice starting point for a deal...but why would the Rays do that again?? My question is....take CC out of the equation... which major contributors has Melvin acquired via FA or trade? I can't think of many and unfortunately with Fielder and Hart....thats how they will get replaced.
  5. Hey if there is a fire sale somewhere....why shouldn't we be buyers? We have big contracts coming off the books for next year in Hall and Suppan. If a team will pick up a big portion this year, why not....
  6. Who really are the possible suitors for Prince? Who has the $ to trade for him and then sign him? Boston Seattle? Arizona? Washington? There are not many options.
  7. Ok...here is my uneducated guess.... 2B Weeks SS Escobar RF Hart LF Braun 3B McGehee 1B Gamel C Lucroy CF Gomez Granted some of these guys will get dealt or a better option will emerge at RF, CF, or 1B. I see no purpose in moving McGehee...he plays a solid 3b and is solid with the bat. He will never be an all star, buty a solid team player. RF and 1b are the two places that we could use some star power. right now Gamel, Hart, and Gomez in CF are all serviceable or project to be serviceable. If we could obtain a Star quality rf, I would be OK moving Hart to 1b....he played there in the minors. Gamel right now doesn't do much for me....but i could be swayed.

  9. The proposed Twins trade does not meet any of their needs. The Twins need Bullpen or Starting pitching help only. They don't need Hart's bat. They have too many OF's already. Mcghee would help offensively but defensively Punto is a stud. I just don't see a match there. Would I trade Hart? Yes. I'd also DFA Suppan today.
  10. I think there should be. Macha had no business being brought back...in fact I think Sveum should have gotten the job before last year. Randolph is no more capable in "fixing" the defense than I am. These things get worked out in the offseason, not during it. Fielder needs to get dealt...I hate to say that because he is a ton of fun to watch, but the Ryan Howard deal killed us. 20 mil is the starting point with Boras. I expect a 24-25 mil deal for him. Boston is likely the only place (maybe Seattle) that would be an option. The core of this team is YO, Braun, and......??? Maghee is a nice story, but is he our long term answer??? I hope so, but who knows. Gomez...doubt it. Hart? No! Weeks maybe. Escobar....hope so.Wolf....by virtue of his contract he better be. Many questions that need answering. Overall I still like Melvin, but at some point a change might need to take place there as well.
  11. Is there a scenario where we bring Lopez back?
  12. I don't see Hughes going anywhere. I'd love to get him, but just don't see it happening. The Yanks can actually use a younger arm that is less expensive than the mega millionaires. Really...they can.
  13. I wonder how much $ we have left. Do we have 5mil? If we do, I'd think that there is a vet who would take that for one year. I agree that to make a trade it will cost us Gamel or Salome. If we like Lucroy...why not include Salome? Does Gamel have a position?
  14. If we were offered 10-12 mil and Gary Matthews for Suppan, would you do it? I think I would.
  15. If we can get a pitcher with Hart and a prospect, you have to do it. I'm not 100% sure that Gomez is the Long term answer. He is so bad offensively (with the bat and on the bases) that we might be wishing we kept Cameron.
  16. I expect to be underwhelmed again. In my perfect world, I'd like to see a trade made for a Javier Vasquez type along with a Mulder and Sheets signing.
  17. I think signing 3 guys makes sense if we are looking at guys like Sheets. (Or 2 if we acquire a pitcher with Hardy and or Hart) Bedard, Harden, Sheets, Mulder, or other injury ? types. I know many want to resign Cameron, but I think that is a luxury we cannot afford. I'd like to see us move Hardy and Hart in order to acquire a CF and pitcher or catcher. Throw Gamel in RF and go with that. I'd love to bring Lopez back, but there are no guarantees that you will ever see the 2009 Lopez again.
  18. I'm sorry....I can't get my mind around a realistic scenario to trade Prince.
  19. I think Melvin was satisfied with the pitching at the start of the season, but then Parra started to fall apart, Bush got hurt, and Suppan was dreadful. Then McClung and Villanueva both became junk. That is 5 pitchers who were being counted on heavily for the season...that hurts.
  20. I disagree with those who think his bat isn't good enough for 3b. He has had a bad year, but the past couple he has been solid with decent power numbers.
  21. If we could convince Hardy to play 3b, I'd be ecstatic, I just don't think he wants to play there. Escobar is not a significant drop off from Hardy right now and is much cheaper. With the holes on this team heading into FA, we need the $ flexibility to acquire contracts via trade or sign FA's. We need 2 or 3 Looper types as SP's. (Of course that is just my opinion)
  22. The question I have is, will we be only able to keep one stud...Braun or Fielder? If so, that sucks beyond belief. If you look at The $ Cameron Kendell and hart are getting, tell me it helps us that much more than Catalanotto , Gerut (Yuck), and Rivera. My point is this...MN has decided to build on Morneau and Mauer and let everyone else be young or retreads. I would be happy to do the same with Braun and Fielder. Put the remainder of the $ into the Pitching and roll with that. Hart and Hall's contracts have hurt us financially. We need to stay away from tweeners and trade them for new prospects when they have value. I know hindsight is 20/20, but this team needs to be built on the two stallions in the barn...ala MN.
  23. I have mixed feelings about Hardy. He was horrid this year - that warranted sending him down to AAA. However, the loss of a year of FA is a zinger that could come back to haunt this club. If Hardy is in the long term plans of this team, fences will need to be mended....likely. However, it appears that he will be a piece that the Brewers will look to use to acquire pitching. Unfortunately, this team is in need of CF help, Pitching help (Starting and Relief), and 3B help. That is a bunch of holes for a small market team. We do save Cameron's, Looper's, Hoffman's and Kendell's? money, but holes are everywhere on this team. It will be an interesting off season. I expect to be underwhelmed by the acquistions.
  24. I'd sign two of the guys coming off of surgery. We can't afford a top notch starter, but 2 middle level guys could help. Suppan is a middle reliever now...2-4 innings is all he is good for. Looper I'd like back Yo Parra Busch Looper? And two more guys off the list. I expect Hardy to be dealt in the off season. If we can pick up a SP from that deal then maybe we need only one off the list with Looper.
