  1. http://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3507 "6. If a "Player to Be Named Later" (PTBNL) is part of a trade, the PTBNL cannot be on an MLB 25-man roster (MLB Active List) at any time beginning when the trade is executed (filed with the MLB office) up until when the trade is completed. A PTBNL can be a specific player or the PTBNL can be selected from a list of players or a class of players as determined by the clubs when the trade is executed. Beginning in 2015, a player signed after being selected in the MLB Rule 4 Draft (First-Year Player Draft) cannot be a PTBNL in any trade made prior to the conclusion of the World Series. Clubs have six months to agree on a PTBNL, but the clubs can agree (when the trade is executed) on a deadline that is less than six months. A cash payment (typically $50,000 for trades involving players on the 40-man roster) can be substituted for a PTBNL if no agreement can be reached within six months, but the alternative cash payment must be agreeable to both clubs and stated in writing when the trade is executed. " Quoted part from link above. Seems to be the player can be on the 40 man roster, not the 25 man roster.
  2. I know it's crazy but I'd be all about trying to lock Arcia up now with a Rays style extension. Do that then there is no worry about calling him up now vs May of next year.
  3. I look at the trade like this. We didn't fleece the Rangers and we didn't get fleeced. The PTBNL will move the needle pretty significantly on this deal but it's safe to say this is a mutually benefiical trade. Sure I would have loved to see the Brewers get a enormously huge package for those two, but the market never developed enough to justify an overpay. Debating Brinson vs. multiple other lower level guys is completely fine. I'm not a huge Brinson fan I always like to see those gaudy minor league numbers which look so pretty, but scouts love him and I can get behind a guy with those kinds of tools. If Stearns would have made this trade on Sunday I'd maybe say it was a less than ideal trade but he took it up to wire, seemingly trying to drum up as much interest and see if he couldn't get a team to throw out a panic mega offer. For me Stearns gets a solid B+ / A- for his trade deadline this year. The Texas trade is a solid B minimum with room to grow on that pretty significantly depending on the PTBNL The Giants deal is nothing less than a perfect score A+.
  4. Frustrated beyond belief, I loved the Cleveland package. Hopefully we find out what Lucroys demands are at some point. No matter what the actual cause this does make Stearns look bad. Hopefully this turns out like last years of Gomez and we end up having a trade that a lot of people didn't like fall through only to have another deal the following day that appeased more people.
  5. Almost went on a profanity laced tirade, then I realized I'm on the kinder gentler Brewerfan.net. Alls I have to say is wowza.
  6. Still hoping to hear confirmation that the deal goes through. This is a real nice return for Lucroy. It's not an "OMG we just fleeced somebody" return but its a solid return for a player with a limited market. Catchers are tough to trade midseason. Sure I'm greedy I wish the deal had Tristan or Frazier or Bradley added to it, but dang if I don't think each of the 3 guys the Brewers got have a real solid shot at being a top 100 prospect by seasons end with huge room to improve upon that.
  7. For all we know he's in Stearns personal top 10 ranking. Rankings from Baseball America and other sites are great for casual fans but what really maters is what the GM of your team has as his ranking. Mejia sure looks like just as good a prospects as Jorge ALfaro and probably is a much better prospect than him at this point. Rankings are silly. Stearns seems to be able to evaluate talent pretty well so I trust in his judgement. Along with looking at the numbers these guys are putting up. Chang is right in line with Isan Diaz in my mind and most around here think Diaz is a top 100 prospect. Allen is a prototypical leadoff prospect that I'd say is outside of the top 100 range right now, but if he keeps up his K/BB rate into AA then he starts spiking up rankings. If Mejia, Chang and Allen were drafted by the Brewers we'd all be in love with them an shouting about how it's a travesty that they aren't top 100 prospects.
  8. An all around Catcher A power / speed MI A leadoff hitting of Thats a pretty solid trio of players. Not the shiny top 30 prospect that many of us wanted but Stearns seems to not care about any ranking but his own. I'd put Mejia 4th, Chang 10th and Allen 13th on the Brewers prospect rankings. That is just slotting them into the MLB pipeline rankigns
  9. If I knew how to post a gif of someones jaw hitting the floor I'd do it if that ends up being the package.
  10. I've been wondering this. During the game I was thinking that maybe Lucroy was holding off on oking the deal until the end of the game so he could have one last game with his teamates. (not likely but dang if I can't get this trade out of my head) I've also kind of thought that Lucroy might be trying to use his no trade to get the trading team to waive their ability to offer him arbitration after next season. Maybe Cle wouldn't do that and he rejected. Although the most likely option is that there never was a deal worked out and talks are still ongoing. Would like to get this out of the way so Stearns can spend the next day and a half working on trading some of the Brewers other assets. Lucroy has to get traded so I would hope almost all of steans time should be spent on trading him. Once that is out of the way he can move on to Guerra or the relievers or Carter or Scooter or Braun or Nelson or Gar...hahaha..za.
  11. Sources tell me Lucroy has been traded to the White Sox as part of a package for Chris Sale. (Do voices in my head count as sources?)
  12. I am excite! Would love to see a deal with the Pirates. Jeffress and Lucroy for Meadows and 2-4 other prospects. Not to familiar with Pirates prospects so won't even try and guess.
  13. Record: 91-71 Playoffs: Yes. Lose to Nationals in Championship MVP: Lucroy Surprise: Lucroy is NL MVP runner up, Khris Davis has a breakout season and hits 5th most of the year, JUngman wins more games than Garza Disappointment: Gennett has a rough year and gets traded for an older upgrade. All Star: Lucroy, Braun, Khris Davis Bold Prediction: With the Brewers being in thick of things for the best record in baseball they make a deal for a frontline starter most likely someone with 1 1/2 year left on his deal. Tyrone Taylor, Devin Williams, Jorge Lopez and Miquel Diaz are the package sent out in that deal.
  14. http://mileofmusic.com/ Haven't seen anything posted about this around here. Everyone within driving distance should make it. A bunch of great music although most of it isn't my style it still great for the Appleton area.
  15. I'm still hopeful the Brewers can end up getting Upton and Skaggs + a nugget or two for a Gallardo and Hart package. That would be the mega deal the Diamondacks are supposedly working on.
  16. While Castellanos is probably untouchable you try and play hardball with them. See if you can't force their hand and play on their owners desire to win a championship before he passes away. Wasn't the rumor that the owner completely bypassed the front office for the Fielder signing? Screw calling the GM, call the owner directly. Pipe dreams are fun.
  17. The Brewers bullpen may not have the worst ERA this year but I have a hard time finding a team whose 7th 8th and 9th inning guys inspire less confidence than the Brewers trio this year. It sucks because going into the year the Bullpen was set up to, arguably, be the Brewers greatest strength.
  18. It may sound silly but I'd love to see the Brewers make a run at some of the slumping pitchers on the trade market. Masterson, Beckett and even Shields. Masterson is still controlled and moderately cheap so he would still probably cost a ton. Beckett is pitching mediocre at best but maybe getting out of the AL and more specifically out of the AL East would give him a boost. If Beckett does rebound then flip him in the offseason, a pitcher with his pedigree is always going to have a market. The real question is Boston willing to give him up mostly for salary relief? Shields is probably a total pipe dream however an offer starting with Maldando and Schafer or Aoki could have some interest to the Rays. I'd say try and throw together an offer of Maldanado, Schafer and Thornburg (think about replacing Schafer with Hunter Morris or Taylor Green if the Rays prefer) Obviously this isn't the kind of offer that will blow the Rays out of the water but it sheds payroll, fills need(s) and gives them more controllable talent.
  19. No, I do not want to see LuCroy semi-full time moved to another position. Yes I would like to see LuCroy get some time at 1st Base to increase his versatility and keep his bat in the lineup. Yes I would look at seeing if you can sell crazy high on LuCroy in the offseason. Only trade LuCroy if you can get a crazy return. Try and see how crazy you can get the Rays to go with an offer. (Hellickson+) Then I would look at signing a guy like Mike Napoli and use him similar to how Texas uses him with 1st Base time instead of the DH time.
  20. If you can get a team to overpay for him, of course you trade him. However there is no way he would bring back someone like Cobb, Niemann or Archer. If the Rays are enamored with Maldonado then I'd be trying to push my luck and steal away Wade Davis. The Brewers would be getting a steal.
  21. Trade - Aramis Ramirez +4 million in the final year of his contract to the Dodgers for Dee Gordon Unlikely, maybe but if the Dodgers could get a SS like Stephen Drew or Yunel Escobar you might be able to get them to overpay. New ownership would love nothing more than a WS in year 1. Also this is the team that traded Carlos Santana for Casey Blake Next up try and pit the Rangers and Angels against each other. Trade Zach Grienke and K-Rod for Jean Segura, CJ Cron, Garret Richards and Peter Burjous This Brewers get some immediate help and a high ceiling future slugger. Not overly high on Richards or Burjous but they are nice pieces. Hopefully Burjous could get flipped midseason next year with Shafer taking over in CF. Finally after the Angels make the big splash try and go crazy with it. Trade Yovanni Gallard and Corey Hart to the Rangers. That duo should get you close to prying away Jurikson Profar, but it still might not. I'd love to see some combination of Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Neftali Feliz, Jurikson Profar, Rougned Odor, Martin Perez, Mike Olt, etc. Maybe Mike Olt, Mitch Moreland, Alexi Ogando and Rougned Odor. That would be a crazy return but honestly the Brewers are giving up quite the haul. This is the least likely or most Video Game like trade. Nonetheless its fun to play around.
  22. Hey, mine too! /derailthread If your from the Appleton area we've got a weekly game on Sunday mornings. I think bf.net needs an Ultimate Frisbee thread about now.
