  1. I think Morgan, because of his personality, has to be on a winner. On a team that is winning Morgan being Morgan is a fun, carefree and a unifying force in the clubhouse. On a team that is losing Morgan's personality is probably going to turn into a divisive force, not only for the whole of the clubhouse but for him personally. Basically when winning Morgan being Morgan is a good thing. When losing Morgan being Morgan is not a good thing for him personally or the club. Just my humble opinion. So yeah if you are able to get something nice in return for Morgan you do the deal in a heartbeat, but if the Brewers plan on competing next season Morgan probably has greater value to the Brewers as a platoon outfielder than as a trade chip.
  2. Just because I am always bored at work I was trying to come up with the "best offer" I would make to Reyes. 6 Year $115 Million (With another $15 Million is reasonable ish Incentives) Year 1 - $15 Million base with a $5 Million Signing bonus Year 2 - $19 Million base Year 3 - $20 Million base Player option to terminate contract after year 3 Year 4 - $20 Million base Team option to terminate contract if player has spent more than x amount of days on the DL over x timeframe (Don't know if this is allowable under league rules but I'd want something like this in a Reyes deal) Year 5 - $20 Million base Year 6 - $16 Million base Incentives $500,000 each for 500 AB, 600 AB, 650 AB, Silver Slugger, All Star Then tack on some of the less likely Incentives. BA Champ, MVP et al I don't know if Reyes is the kind of guy that would even be receptive to the idea of coming to a place like Milwaukee but if he is then this is the range of contract I would be willing to see the Brewers do. It's a risk and it is going to require that the Brewer push payroll to the mid to upper $90 Million range but a top of the order with Reyes, Weeks, Braun could be deadly. I still like Weeks as a number 2 hitter.
  3. Until I hear the Brewers offer K-Rod arbitration I am going to be extremely skeptical. After that until I hear K-Rod declines arbitration I am going to be terrified he accepts it. With K-Rods comments during the season I do think it does help the case for him not accepting arbitration. With that being said look at the Free Agent Closers this year: Heath Bell, Jonathan Pappelbon, Ryan Madson, K-Rod, Jonathan Broxton, Francisco Cordero and Brad Lidge. There are a ton of closer going to be on the market and a nice variety of bargain basement types and super elite closers. Honestly I don't know if there are going to be enough teams in the market for Closers to be able to give jobs to all the Free Agents. I also think that teams are looking to save every penny they can these days and there won't be any more K-Rod of CoCo Cordero contracts given out anymore. I think the Valverde 2 year 16 million deal is going to be closer to the normal 2nd tier Closer money. (Yes if Bell does hit the open market I could see him getting 4 years 36 million, but he is the exception not the rule) I honestly think that K-Rod is going to have a decision to make. Does he want to take a 2 year 16 million deal (I'm not certain he'll even get that much) with a club to be a Closer, or does he want to accept arbitration and be locked in to a 1 year deal with the Brewers for what 10-12 million. Basically it comes down to this, I think that the Closer market this year is going to be like a game of musical chairs. When the music stops someone is going to be left without a chair. I just don't want the Brewers to end up being saddled with a $12 million unhappy set up man. I want nothing more than to get the picks for the Brewers. I'm just a bit fearful that they could get shafted big time.
  4. If anything there might have been a deal put in place under the table where before Boras signs elsewhere he goes back to the Brewers for a final offer. In my mind that is the ideal scenario for the Brewers. The likelyhood of signing him is slim to none, but if a deal to be able to last second put an even symbolic bid in is going to be a great thing for the Brewers. The Brewers gain the ability to put in a last second bid that will make it look to the fans like they had a great chance at resigning him and Boras gets a chance to be able to go back to the team seriously interested in Fielder and try and squeeze out a couple extra million by saying the Brewers are making a strong push.
  5. It was a great season, I can't say anything bad about it or the Brewers. I'll loo back fondly on this postseason run, hopefully i won't remember it to much because next year they will win it all and I'll forget all about this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If this was Prince's last game I'll miss watching him he was my favorite Brewer, partially because the first time I started diving deeply into the Brewers and there minor leagues was they Prince Fielder draft. Hopefully Ryan Braun win's the MVP he truly was beastly. (Although I can't argue if Kemp wins) The pitching got us here, they ran into a really good offense and got beat up a bit. Nyjer Morgan brought some excitement and national publicity to the Brewers for well being crazy. In a good way, though. Mark A. has brought the Brewers respect. That is something that 10 years ago seemed impossible. We can argue about how the Brewers allocate there money or if some of the moves are ideal but I can't argue with the fact that Mark A has turned a laughing stock into a team that is gaining national recognition and can no longer be thought of as a bottom dweller. The Cardinals, well I still hate the Cardinals. Passionately. With fury. And Devotion. Grrrr.... I'm ready to kick Cardinals fans in the ankles.
  6. I'm always trying to pillage players from teams in turmoil. What about trying to get Kevin Youkilis from the Red Sox to play 1st Base? Not that he's a lock to be on his way out, but it is also imo very conceivable the Red Sox would be willing to trade Youk. His value is something that I honestly have no clue on right now though, he's a unique player but has the injury issues which should keep his value tempered a bit.
  7. Hart, Gamel and Gindl for Eithier and Loney?
  8. No way do the Yankee's include Banuelos in a deal for Marcum. Banuelos was off the table in any deals this trade deadline and I don't see anything that would have changed that. I know in the Ubaldo Jimmenez talks it was at least rumored that Banuelos, Ivan Nova and Jesus Montero were all off limits. I think there was a another pitcher that was off limits but no idea who it is off the top of my head. While not a perfect trade for filling Brewers needs I am starting to wonder if a Shaun Marcum for Logan Morrison trade might be mutually beneficial. Perhaps Shaun Marcum and Matt Gamel for Logan Morrison and Matt Dominquez. I am lower on Morrison than alot of people and mediocre on Gamel so I'm not certain that is the greatest trade but the Brewers would be getting a 1st Baseman to replace Prince and a 3rd Baseman that is a + defender and is still young enough to have some upside. The Marlins get a nice steady arm to plug into their rotation and will still have oodles of money to throw at Aramis Ramirez and whoever else they want.
  9. If you've got pictures of the Framed Sinatra records I am interested in those. At least a picture of one of them would be lovely. Thanks
  10. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that Jungman isn't the highest ceiling player of the bunch at least right no. The other players at this point I would argue have undetermined ceilings. For me it is a simple internal debate about going with 3 riskier yet players or one singular player closer to being major league ready. I'll also admit it is partially because Jungman lacks the, hmm, ?sexiness? to be worthy of an overslot contract. Plus his late season struggles got me nervous. I'm not trying to argue for or against either setup and ideally the Brewers can pull down at least 1 of the Amaral, McFarland, Rodon trio making this completely a moot point.
  11. Something I've been playing around with in my head since I heard that Jungman was looking for 3.5 to 4 million dollars, so I would like to see what you all have to say. Would the Brewers system look better signing Jungman for 2.75 million or would it look better taking somewhere around that amount of money and signing Rodon, Amaral and McFarland and getting the 12 pick next year? So assuming the Brewers only have the static amount of money to spend in the draft is it better to go all in with the fast rising near ready, or would it be better to try and just get as many high ceiling players into the system?
  12. Next year let's make it a Brewerfan.net outing. I wish I would have known about this sooner, I don't want to wait a year to do it.
  13. I don't know which thread I enjoy more, this one or the diagnose my injury thread. Brewerfan.net finding love and curing ailments.
  14. Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows Lesley Gore Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together, Brighter than a lucky penny, When you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear, And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine. My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, That's how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody! Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way When you're in love to stay. This song has been in my head for a good 6 months now, I hate life. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. mlbtraderumors.com had this blurb which is the first time I've seen it directly stated. "The Mets will choose the players from a list of five Brewers minor leaguers by a date in September." So my guess is McClendon, Kintzler, Stetter, Nelson and Anuundson.
  16. That seems to be an impressive haul for the Mariners. Bravo Jack Z for turning a couple million dollar gamble on a player into 2 pretty exciting OF Prospects.
  17. Looking at who was traded and who was rumored to be traded I just don't see the players that the Brewers needed to get. I also don't see to many crazy good values. The Jeff Keppinger deal is probably something they should have looked into, but perhaps the Astro's didn't want to trade in division. I think Edwin Jackson to Toronto was another deal the Brewers would have been wise to try and pull down, not an area of need but could have been a huge get. Also it's hard to say the Brewers should have boosted payroll that much, it's already at a decent level. Hopefully August will be kind to the Brewers and a couple of players will become available that will fit there needs. Aramis Ramirez is the big name, I am hoping mid August he starts asking for a trade. Brian Fuentes would be another ideal candidate. The Division got better but not exponentially better. The problem is the Phillies and Braves and Giants got exponentially better. I am disappointed the Brewers couldn't pull down a +SS or +3rd but it's me being disappointed in the market this year not in the Brewers lack of moves.
  18. Wasn't Yohannis Perez around the $2 million dollar mark?
  19. Late to the party here but color me intrigued. Rios and prospects for Gamel. That seems to be potentially very intriguing. A Brewers Outfield of Rios, Morgan and Braun looks like a nice defensive setup with some nice offensive upside. Trading Hart or having Hart as the 1st Baseman seems to be nice in this scenario. (Yes Braun at 1st and Hart in LF looks better I just don't think the Brewers would do it) Prospects could potentially be flipped for a SS or 2nd or 3rd. Strike while the iron is hot, the White Sox just made one bad trade try and get in on another.
  20. Let me know if you get back from Thornburg. I've been delaying this but I've wanted to get a ball signed by Thornburg. Every year my Fantasy Baseball League is named after what we figure is the breakthrough player on the Rattlers roster. This year it was Thornburg, last year was Bucci and the first year was Peralta. This year I planned on getting a trophy with a ball holder in it and getting a Thornburg signed ball. Should have got it when he was in Appleton but I guess I'm just lazy.

  22. Honestly I want Furcal and Carrol. When healthy Furcal is the SS and Carroll is splitting time in the super utility role. Plus taking on Furcals contract might be able to make Carroll slightly cheaper.
  23. I really just have a hard time seeing KRod pulling down that much money. I just thing that KRod is going to get money closer to what Jose Valverde had to get from the Tigers. I have nothing to back it up really just I don't see to many teams spend tons on a closer much anymore.
  24. I know this isn't likely but one of my first thoughts with this deal was that the Brewers might be in a nice position to flip KRod at the trade deadline if the rest of the Bullpen gets it's act together. My logic is the Brewers have enough arms in the pen that if they all perform at a level that is reasonable to expect them to then KRod becomes a true luxury. At the 31st deadline assuming Krod gets no "Finishes" in the meantime it would make it unlikely he could hit the vesting option. With him not being on pace to hit the vesting option his value skyrockets. The Brewers then could look at the option of trying to work out a 3 way to get other pieces. KRod to the Yankees, Yankees prospects to Baltimore, Hardy to Milwaukee. It's fun to dream.
