  1. I've been wanting to get in shape for a while now and just haven't had the motivation. Ultimate Frisbee is my main and near exclusive form workouts. I've finally bought some shoes that seem to fit my running style, but after watching the video I've realized how terribly horribly bad my running form is. It seems to stem from the fact that I am a "duck walker". Basically it's uncomfortable for me to have my feet pointed straight out. I guess that is where all my leg issues end up coming from. At least now I know and can search around for tips on running with terrible form.
  2. Tulowitzki for Braun in a heartbeat. I'd definitely think about Trout, Strasburg or Harper for Braun too. With Braun I wonder if the constant nagging injuries are only going to get worse with age. Factor that in with the Brewers probably needing to rebuild for a year or two, would make me think about trading Braun for one of very few mega prospects / budding stars.
  3. Got a question answered by Dave Rawnsley on the Perfect Game chat. Comment From Brewer Tim Thoughts on the Brewers draft so far? Seems like there a quite a few players that your site has rated pretty high and others without much of a profile at all. David Rawnsley: I think you pretty much nailed it, Tim. There are a couple of their picks that I personally wouldn't have made. There were a couple of others that I thought were very solid. I like Roache and Haniger even though I'm a primary HS guy. I love the potential value in Wagner and Magnifico where they were picked. I like Lavendaro in the 10th, very loose arm.
  4. The Perfect Game guys seem to really like the Magnifico pick. Hardest thrower in the draft, hits 98-103, seems like a nice high end bullpen arm.
  5. Whats the deal with Roache? He had the wrist break but why is he falling so far? Is he a risk to go back to school to rebuild value or is the break something that is potentially a much bigger long term issue than it seems. I know wrist injuries take a long time to heal and get power back but it's not like he would be going straight into the Brewers lineup. For me I'm hoping the Brewers get a bit lucky and have some things fall for them for once. Gallo and Roache are who I'd be drooling over the Brewers picking. Piscotty is another name that intrigues me. From what I've been reading he seems like he could develop into a Jeff Cirillo style 3rd baseman, a guy who does everything pretty well. Addison Russell is someone who I don't totally understand why he seems to be getting mocked so late, a guy who can play SS (although maybe not long term) with a huge bat, isn't something that falls in drafts.
  6. Regarding the Brewers long term financial commitments and there ability to sign Grienke long term. To preface this I am by no means a baseball economist, simply a fan who has to much time to think about stupid [expletive deleted by mod (1992)] at work. Lately I've been thinking about where average payrolls are going to be in 3-5 years and then going forward. Personally I think we are going to see a heck of a lot more money being thrown around. It seems like baseball is an ascending sport. It also, IMO, seems like the new rules in baseball are pushing more money into the ML rosters. TV deals seem to be exploding, foolishly so. (Have the Brewers released details on their deal?) That right there is going to push more teams towards the Luxury cap threshold. It is reasonable to assume that in 3-5 years that the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Dodgers, Rangers and Phillies all could be pushing up near the luxury tax. Texas is the only one that might be a reach. After that there are a few complete wild cards whose payroll could bottom out in a rebuilding process or skyrocket in an instant, including the Cubs, Mets, Mariners, Tigers and Nationals. With more teams spending more money the value of players should skyrocket. I think we are in for a whole lot more $140 - $240 million dollar contracts. On a smaller scale it seems like the new Draft rules seem to be taking away the approach that a few teams have taken to recently which is to try and build long term strength by going extreme in spending in the draft and in the International markets. With that avenue being taken away owners should theoretically be able to put that money back into the ML rosters. So for a team like the Brewers might be in a bit of a tough spot. They will never have a TV deal that will be competitive with major markets. They also won't be able to do what the Pirates and Nationals have done over the last few years and spend foolishly (don't mean that as a negative just that they spend crazy money in the draft, I wish the Brewers would have when they could have). So Mark A might have to decide is it worth it to boost payroll into the $120 million + range to stay in the top 12-15 for payroll or try and compete payroll wise. The positive is that if Baseball is ascending as much as I think it is then team values should skyrocket also. So can/could the Brewers afford $120-140 million dollar payroll and come out with a profit over a 5 year time frame? Probably not, but hopefully an owner like Mark A would look at it as a long term investment. Perhaps taking a bit of a loss each year but keeping the value of the team ascending. So after my thoughts that are probably half incoherent and half flat wrong, my impression is that Grienke should be affordable by the Brewers at roughly $20 million a year. The cost of elite talent will not be going down so sign it while you can. It would push the Brewers core of long term commitments past $70 million as stated previously but it should allow for enough roster flexibility to stay very competitive. If Gamel is having an impressive season try and get him to sign a $10 million 5 year deal with 3 option years. Look at doing something similar to at least 1 of the upcoming pipeline of pitching. Peralta, Thornburg, Jungman, or Bradley. Getting a few cost controlled young players would obviously be key to the Brewers being able to afford so many high salary players.
  7. Quickly without thinking about it to much. Been on a rap kick so; Scroobius Pip Sage Francis b. Dolan But the two bands I would viciously kick kittens to be able to see are The Refused At the Drive In's Coachella your siren's call is drawing me in. I must resist you. I must resist you. I can't call in sick for a week to work and fly out there. I can't. Finally because I am madly foolishly ridiculously in love with Zooey Deschanel, She and Him. (To be fair I'd be fine if Him didn't even show up)
  8. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2012/02/the-mock-volume-ii/ Mock Draft just thought I would pass it on.
  9. Make a run to a few thrift stores. I haven't been going much lately but I know I used to see them there all time. Typically for 3-8 bucks.
  10. Well the end is nearly here to this saga. I just wish the end left a rosier tint on things. The end result is MLB looks horrible for having the breach of protocal. Ryan Braun looks like a cheater who got lucky. Everyone walks away from this far, far worse off than before this started. The fact that the sample was held in a courier fridge over a weekend is inexcusable, plain and simple. You have to assume the worst can happen if anything deviates from protocal. Is it likely that that the courier held the sample to tamper with it? No, absolutely not. Could it have happened? Absolutely yes! There are a thousand different potential motives for the courier to tamper with a sample. Braun is most likely guilty of taking a substance banned by MLB. If he did then he should be suspended for 50 games. I may be a Brewers fan but there needs to be a true zero tolerance policy. With that being said MLB did have a huge breach of protocal, and you do have to assume the worst could happen. It sucks that Braun seemingly was exonerated on a technicality but it was a pretty innexcusable technicallity. Well I guess I'll try and head off to MLB.com and see if I can order a customized #8 Jersey with Cheater replacing Brauns name.
  11. I just wanted to add that this is one of my favorite threads on Brewerfan.net. Not because I am terribly interested in current WWE but this thread made me reminisce about the good old day watching WWE growing up as a kid. When going back and googling around at early 90s-ish wrestling stuff I was amazed at how vividly I can remember how I felt during certain storylines. I remember being heartbroken when Tugboat turn on Hogan and became Typhoon. I remember how my hatred for the Million Dollar Man, and my joy when Virgil turned on him. Nothing compares to the hatred deep in my heart for the Undertaker. Didn't want to divert the thread just wanted to say thanks for making me reminisce about the good days of wrestling.
  12. Deep down my feelings for Mat are conflicted. While I'm having fun with him in the short term, I just don't see the relationship turning into something worthy of a long term commitment. So I guess if I'm being honest I'll enjoy my time spent with Mat, but I might have a little affair on the side. Basically I'd like Mat to stay interested but only until I can find my Prince that sweeps me off my feet.
  13. How would trading picks affect the Cap on Draft spending? If a team trades for an extra 1st round pick and has a pair of supplemental picks does their pool of money to spend increase also?
  14. No everything else is identical. It's through Progressive Insurance. I've got to admit I feel like a fool for paying more for less for so long. :P
  15. I changed my car insurance deductible from $1000 down to $0 and my insurance went down $35 a month. Yay for formula's determining everything. I even went and played around with the policy quote thing today and if I switch from my $0 Deductible plan to a $2000 deductible plan my insurance would go up $17 a month.
  16. Obviously I would love the Brewers to add Roy Oswalt, hopefully he would take an incentive laden deal. A base of $5 Million or so with another $4 million in Innings pitched bonus'. On the more realistic end I am still hopeful the Brewers can sign Casey Kotchman. Gamel is probably going to be pretty good but I would love for the Brewers to find someone to push him for playing time. NRI's would love to see a bullpen arm and a corner outfielder. Both are area's where the Brewers have a bit of a need so it might be reasonable to assume the Brewers could get a nice upside player. I'm dissapointed that they couldn't sign Dan Wheeler. Hopefully Rich Harden has to end up taking a NRI. Reid Brignac is someone I have a bit of a man crush on. I think he could be a very nice buy low addition this offseason.
  17. It's also to bad that CC Sabathia wasn't a higher ranked Free Agent than Texiera because the Trout pick was the pick the Angels got for losing Tex. Grrr...Brewers are overdue for a bit of luck.
  18. Jones Soda Co., is who I'll be hoping wins the insanely competitive beverage sponsorship deal for the Milwaukee Brewers.
  19. What about seeing if the Rays would trade Reid Brignac to take the Utility Infield slot? The Rays wouldn't give him away, but he also shouldn't cost a ton. I know I read earlier in the offseason that the Rays wouldn't be against trading him. I love the Izturis pickup and I wouldn't be anything less than happy to go into the year with Izturis and Gonzalez as the Brewers SS's, however, Ideally I would love to see the Brewers get a younger guy who can compete with Gonzalez for playing time and hopefully play well enough to keep Gonzalez under the 550 (?) AB's that make his option vest. Gonzalez is great but I'd love to see the Brewer's keep as much payroll flexibility as possible for next season.
  20. Nice get on a no risk move for the Brewers. I am still hopeful the Brewers can get a higher upside middle infielder to act as the backup this year, but Izturis is a nice backup backup plan.
  21. I could see either Seattle or Toronto offering Fielder a 6 year $150 million deal. I think that if that is where the offers are at I think that Baltimore will end up jumping in and signing Fielder to a 7 year $170 million or if the get ridiculous a 8 year $190 million.
  22. San Diego gets a heck of a haul here, imo. Granted Matt Latos is a great pitcher, a true Ace, but San Diego alot of valuable piece's for a rebuilding franchise. I was pissed Grandal fell the Reds at pick 12 (ish) in the draft a few years back. Yonder Alonso may never be a a 40 Home Run hitter but he should be a very very good 1st Baseman for years. Boxberger I don't know a ton about, but it looks like he is a year or so away from being an high leverage situation reliever. Cueto is a nice buy low piece that could really turn this deal into a massive unbelievable value for the Padres. The Reds got an Ace and traded from depth, so I can't say anything bad about it from their prospective.
  23. I'll say this the player that I really really want is Ryan Doumit. The Twins pulled down a great signing getting him to sign for that little that quickly. Doumit would give the Brewers exactly what they need right now. A guy who could be a Left Fielder for 50 games and then he would be insurance for Gamel at 1st Base.
  24. If just for the Draft Pick wouldn't Toronto be the best most reasonable potential destination? They pick 17th or so the Brewers would get that pick unless something has changed.
  25. This year was a musical chairs scenario with SS's, there were a bunch of teams out there looking for upgrades and very few upgrades available. The Brewers didn't want to be stuck empty handed when the music stopped so they slightly overpaid for Gonzalez. I though Gonzalez would have gotten a, basically, 2 year 7.5 million dollar deal. So yeah the Brewers did overpay by .75 million in my mind, but it means when the music stops they won't be stuck looking at Yuni as the best available option at SS. Plus if the Brewers can pull down a trade for a decent SS this season they could bench Gonzalez and potentially not have him for next season.
