  1. Most people in the service industry say this about the place they work. If you truly believe this, then you wouldn't ever go out to eat.
  2. I agree. I like Jimmy Johns and Milios better than Subway. I can understand as a meat-eater why subway is great, but it doesn't give as many vegetarian options as the others. Some meat-eaters might have a hard time understanding why a place like Subway, where you can pick all your toppings doesn't give as many options, but it's the type of options. Anyway, when I eat at Subway (which is somewhat often since my significant other looooves it) I usually get:Italian herb and cheese (bestest bread they got) cheddar (maybe another cheese, provolone or mozz) lettuce tom a little banana peppers red onion cucs spinach (sometimes, not often) mayo a little honey mustard oil and vinegar oregano (sometimes) parm and pepper (sometimes)
  3. I liked "Lives of Others," but I still thought that "Pan's Labyrnth" should have won the Oscar. Has anyone seen "Perfume?" I liked it, but since I didn't read the book, I was wondering what those who did thought.
  4. Since I just watched Bloodsport the other night, here's the mentos commerical: And I just saw this on another board:
  5. I don't know if I agree. Maybe with some aging veteran, but I just think of Paul O'Neill. He pitched an inning when he was with the Red, and really regretted it because it messed up his arm.
  6. They lost all my respect on one play last night. Well, most of it anyway. I completely understand that, but even before last night some fans are just on another level of crazy-angry. We're all frusturated and pissed off at the team's performance, but I'm disappointed that after how poorly the Brewers have been the past couple of years and the team still being in contention, people would abandon them now. That's my vent. And "that play" from last night. That has to be rock bottom.
  7. Andy, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Did Conor and I leaving make you lose your mind? I would rather starve than not have cable. Don't be a stranger to facebook.
  8. Thank you. On my first try, I decided to be a farmer (I know, only bankers win) and attempted to ford the first river. I lost tons of stuff, including my oxen, and Han, Chewbacca, and Obi-Wan drowned. *sigh* One of these days I'll get to the end of Oregon Trail (just like one day I'll finally beat the first Mario Brothers).
  9. The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract. Also second Ball Four. I liked Satchel Paige's autobiography. and Birth of a Dynasty by Joel Sherman (or Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty by Olney) if you're interested in the Yankees of the past 15 years. I also heard great things about the latest Gehrig biography.
  10. Well we are currently in Pierre, SD. 1/3 of the trip is done. I'm checking bank accounts, box scores, celeb gossip as I wait for TLB to get ready. As someone who never traveled out here before a couple observations: 1. I have seen more cows in SD than in WI. 2. SD has been the prettiest part of the trip so far, but this is some state capital. 3. I have seen two anti-abortion and one anti-animal activist billboard, which just makes me warm inside. 4. Even though the Sturgis bike meeting thing is this week, I have seen 20x more bikers going east on 90. 5. Never order walleye from a townie bar. (TLB learned this one.) PS I'm from Jersey, so the whole can't fill up the gas tank is not new to me. You gas tank-fillers are the weirdos! But I did go to graduate school in NY, so I do know how to, but at one point on this trip, we stopped at this farmer-owned gas station. I think the pump was from 1950. I stared at it for a good couple minutes. Thankfully someone came out and did it for us. I doubt either one of us will check in again for awhile, esp since we're getting extra inningshttp://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif, but we just want to thank people for the nice thoughts. And if anyone who lives/ lived in Portland would contact me or TLB via yukumail, that would be fabulous! We both have never even visited the city and only know a couple friends of friends.
  11. Well it's the way a guy approaches a girl. When I'm talking about being confident, I don't mean those eager meat-heads. Just start a conversation, smile, etc. It's very charming when a guy just comes up, is himself, and asks for a number. Practice your approach on some girl friends, or just go into some random bar and give it a go. What's the worst that could happen? She politely declines? If she reacts badly, you either were an ass or she's a @*%+% and you wouldn't want that anyway. BTW, I don't think women are turned off by guys that've never had a girlfriend, although I guess if you're 35 and was never in a relationship, it isn't a good sign. But I have plenty of friends, myself included, that would be very hesitant to date a virgin. I really do think that most girls do like the good guys, you just need to go up to her and say hi.
  12. That's really interesting.
  13. He will, and he'll get more. He'd easily push $30 mil/year, and I imagine he'd remain in Yankee pinstripes as long as they pay up. He has no real reason to leave (a la A-Ramirez in Chi.), and will go to the highest bidder. Other big market teams have a shot, true, and seeing him play with Vlad is a juicy scenario, but I just don't see him leaving NY. Better said, I just don't see NY letting him leave (read: underbidding - they learned their lesson with Matsuzaka)
  14. I posted on here about a month ago that I would be going skydiving. (The thread dropped off.) Well I went and it was unbelievable. I encourage everyone to do it, no matter how much you are scared of heights. Simply terrifying, and I loved every second. I went through AtmosphAir, in Ft. Atkinson. The training went by pretty quickly, probably a 1/2 hour. I got a dvd with my package, and if anyone decides to do this, please get the dvd - it's great (the cost was $80). They got me suiting up, in the plane, and jumping out/landing (the camera was on my tandem partner's wrist). Five of us crammed in this little plane, and off we went to 12,500 ft. When we were half way up, I saw the clouds at my level and that's when I started to get scared. I then had to sit on my ankles so my partner and I could link up. The door opened and the first coupld zoomed out. It's not like the movies where if the door opens you'll just be sucked out. We then moved over to the edge of the door. It was much cooler and I was simply terrified just seeing clouds and barely the earth. I then had to put my leg on the wing and grab my shoulder straps. My leg, btw, was swinging in the air, but I did get it steady. We then fell out, and what a rush! Freefall was 1 minute, and then we glided down 5 minutes or so. The tandem partner also let me steer the parachute! The landing was great, we definitely came in quicker then I expected. And people are right when they say you'll never look the same way at the sky.
  15. DC has the best Ethiopian food in the country. I'd recommend trying some, anywhere. I also second the Holocaust museum. PS TC, RE: Tues I boo because I love http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I've been there countless times, all over, so I wouldn't really know how to respond. But one of my favorite things is that you never know what you're going to see/hear. Like a gossip columnist says "Only in New York kids, only in New York." I'm sure you can say that about all major cities, but from my experience NYC takes the cake with the crazies. Here's a fun website that shows a little of what I'm talking about: www.overheardinnewyork.com/
  17. In high school, I used to work at a diner. I've waited on/ seen Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, and Steve Van Zandt more than once. Jon and Steve are great, but Bruce was cheap. Anyway, it was close to the Arts Center, so I used to wait on musicians sometimes. One night Creed came in, and something happened at the show that they were all upset, and the lead singer (my obscure celeb) asked me to tell other patrons to not bother him. I laughed in his face and asked 'who the @#%$ are you?' I also once drove by Paul Shaffer's (the guy from Letterman) house and he was in his robe picking up his paper at the end of the driveway. I beeped at him.
  18. It seems normal. Why is your roommate bugging out about this? He should just talk to her. Communication is key afterall. For the girl: Guys have become so sensitive, haven't they?
  19. Oh no, don't worry. It's cool. It's actually for my boyfriend's benefit.
  20. This is nothing new, but, boy, is he an idiot. I've known about and also supported firejoemorgan for quite a while. I can't even watch ESPN baseball on Sunday. If I have to hear about the Great Red Machine one more time I'll scream. I don't think Morgan is ignorant about the game, but I don't understand how someone who follows the sport can say OPS is meaningless yet a win-loss record is indicative to the effectiveness of a pitcher. ETA: Grammar is nice.
  21. There's really no way you're going to convince me of this. I've watched nearly all his ABs this year, and this statement doesn't reflect what I've seen. Does he draw a ton of BBs? No. Will he chase a bit? Yeah. He's a rookie, and I don't understand how his results don't make you satisfied with his approach. Elaborate?
  22. I made the appointment - Sunday, July 15th 9am. Unfortunately I couldn't get a late jump, but I had to get it in before my boyfriend and I leave town this month. I'm soooooooo excited. Thanks for all the stories and tips. I'll call back and ask about a camera. I'll post about my experience, but I'm sure I'll be geeking out and post before that. And hawing, I wish that was the case. There's a semi-horror story in this thread! But most people are really nice. I'm not really nervous though, it's more for my boyfriend's sake. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. Because I'm going!!! **YEA** Last night I won a tandem jump at a live auction. I go up 12,500 feet (over 2 miles), free fall 60 seconds (120mph!), and then float for another 6 minutes. During the float, I'll be steering and getting to do all kinds of turns and loops. The package also includes a video, which will show everything from the training, the plane ride up, and my 7 minutes coming back to Earth. I thought the camera would be stapped to me or my partner, but it turns out that there's another jumper that keeps it on me. Anyway, I'm so excited!!! My parents and my boyfriend, not so much. It's out of Fort Atkinson. I'm not familiar with the area, actually the only parts of WI I'm familiar with are Madison, Oconomowoc, and Miller Park. I've always wanted to go, and have done most of the bungee-type activities. So, anyone have any experience? Any tips? And please, no horror stories. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
