  1. Also with the SSS caveat, coming into tonight's game (per FanGraphs), Gómez has seen 4.01 pitches/PA. Compare that to 3.39 last season, & 3.49 on his career. For further comparison... '12 Braun: 3.75, '12 Aoki: 3.89, '13 Segura: 3.75. He has looked much more disciplined and savvy at the plate so far. Hopefully this is a permanent addition to his game, and not something he'll slip away from as the season drags on.
  2. His aaahhhhh rivals the Melvin and that Eh, it's what, his first game? Given more time on-air, I think he'd iron out the inexperience glitches like that. Not that Rock is going anywhere anytime soon.
  3. I realize he doesn't have much on-air time under his belt, but Counsell sounds like he's been doing this for years. I've really enjoyed his addition to the broadcast tonight.
  4. Apparently the Sounds haven't been scuffling at the plate the past few games, they've just been storing up offensive firepower. 7 runs on 7 hits in the first two innings! Jeff Bianchi has a 3B & 3 RBI, while Scooter Gennett & Stephen Parker each have a 2B & 2 RBI. Gennett has also extended his Sounds-best hitting streak to 10 games.
  5. Well that's good to hear. Lopez has always been a very raw project of a draft pick... nice to see flashes of the upside.
  6. May Schedule 1 vs Pit 1-0 4 vs Stl 2-2 2 vs Tex 1-1 3 @ Cin 1-2 4 @ Pit 2-2 3 @ Stl 1-2 3 vs Lad 2-1 3 vs Pit 2-1 2 vs Min 1-1 2 @ Min 1-1 1 @ Phi 1-0 15-13
  7. While I agree that Hart could man the OF, that's not really something I want to see him doing even sparingly. I just don't think his knee(s?) would hold up roaming the OF.
  8. It should be noted that CIN's Tony Cingrani made his MLB debut on the 18th at home v. FLA: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R/ER, 3 BB, 8 K. I won't provide any further updates on Cingrani aside from this one & the other post I just made, but imo it would behoove any Brewers fan to pay attention to how this young man continues to fare in the bigs. We may well be seeing a lot of him over the next 6+ seasons.
  9. I realize this is MLB news now, but I thought it was worth pointing out that CIN's Tony Cingrani has continued to shine. His latest start yesterday, at WAS: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K. He even picked up his first hit, a 2nd inning single. His previous start came on the 23rd at home against the Cubs: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R/ER, 0 BB, 9 K. Another outstanding performance that was only outdone by former Brewer Carlos Villanueva's 8.1 IP gem, and also-former-Brewer Manny Parra allowing a pair of runs (1 ER) in the 10th to give the Cubs their winning margin. Counting along on the Reds' calendar, it looks like Cingrani's next start will come on Friday, May 3rd. That's a 1:20 CT start time, so for anyone with free time + mlb.tv and/or Extra Innings... might be worthwhile to check him out firsthand. It looks like the Brewers will miss him in their 5/10-5/12 series in Cincy (unless the Reds use off days to shuffle the rotation), so we might not see him face the Crew until mid-June at the earliest.
  10. Going off of past promotion activity, I would be pleasantly surprised to see Nelson bumped before the ASB. If he keeps pitching well, the ASB is when I'd bet he's moved up.
  11. Rickie needs to sit for a day or two. Roenicke can talk all he wants about 'you never know when he'll snap out of it,' but dude needs to warm some pine for a while. Just re-set the mind & hopefully come back fresh.
  12. You do realize that for many people who have a problem with them, part of why they have that problem is that these women are being used as simply eye candy? I agree that ultimately they aren't that big of a deal one way or the other, but I do find them tedious & annoying.
  13. Sounds Drop Second Of Double Dip Nashville's Lone Run Comes On Balk In Final Inning Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/U6VTj3q.jpg Dayton Buller (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds dropped two games in Sunday afternoon's twin billing at Greer Stadium, allowing the Memphis Redbirds to tie the four-game series 2-2, losing 1-0 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap. After 13 innings without a run, Nashville finally pushed one across the plate in the seventh inning of game two, when Redbirds pitcher Eric Fornataro balked with Joey Paciorek on third, who was pinch running for catcher Dayton Buller. The run made it 2-1 and was the second-consecutive Sounds run scored on a balk from a Memphis pitcher, stretching back to Friday night's balk-off win. The Redbirds scored first in the third inning, when right fielder Justin Christian slapped a single into left field to score Travis Tartamella from second, who reach base on a catcher's interference call charged to Buller. The run was unearned, keeping starter Zach Kroenke's (0-3) line clean through four innings of work, but pinned the lefty with his third loss of the season. Kroenke limited Memphis to three hits, fanning three and walking one before reliever Johnnie Lowe entered the game in the fifth. Lowe and Travis Webb each worked one scoreless frame for Nashville, before Jesus Sanchez allowed Memphis' final run: a solo jack off the guitar scoreboard by Chad Huffman. The homer was the first earned run of the season allowed by Sanchez, after starting the year with 10 scoreless innings over seven appearances. Second baseman Scooter Gennett went two-for-four in the nightcap, extending his hitting streak to nine games, the most by a Sound this season, with a broken-bat single into centerfield and an infield hit in seventh. Getting the win for Memphis was reliever Sam Freeman (1-0), who worked two scoreless innings, before Fornataro picked up his first save. The Sounds embark on an eight-game road trip on Monday that includes four-game stops in Oklahoma City (AAA-Astros) and Round Rock (AAA-Rangers). Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (1-2, 4.20) will man the bump in Monday's 7:05 p.m. series opener in Oklahoma City. The RedHawks will counter with right-hander Ross Seaton (0-1, 8.03). Baseball returns to Greer Stadium on Tuesday, May 7, as the Sounds host the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA-Giants). Nashville Box The Sounds actually had eight hits to the Redbirds' four, & had a runner in scoring position in every inning aside from the 6th... timing is everything. 14. I'm about the last person who could tell you what kind of PC setup you need. I ran it on a fairly old computer with all the settings turned down just fine, but noticed a huge improvement when I put in a videocard that cost around $100. Ok, thanks.
  15. Sounds Drop Twinbill Opener To 'Birds, 1-0 Gast Extends Scoreless Streak To 29 2/3 Innings For Memphis Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/5EL6pW4.jpg Sean Halton (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Memphis left-hander John Gast continued his early-season dominance of PCL hitters, hurling five scoreless innings, and Oscar Taveras belted a homer to lead the Redbirds to a 1-0 victory over the Nashville Sounds in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Greer Stadium. With the outing, Gast (3-0) extended his PCL-best season-opening scoreless streak to 29 2/3 innings. The southpaw, who fanned seven and allowed only two hits in his five innings, earned his third victory in five starts for Memphis. Victor Marte worked the final two innings in scoreless fashion for Memphis to nail down his fifth save of the year. The loss was Nashville's third shutout defeat of the young season. Mike Fiers (0-1) took a complete-game loss for the Sounds after working all seven innings. He allowed one run on six hits, walked three batters, and struck out three in his 84-pitch effort. Taveras put the visitors on the board in the top of the third inning with a two-out solo homer to right-center off Fiers. The blast was the outfielder's second big fly of the year. Fiers kept it a one-run deficit in the fourth when he worked into and out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam, getting Gast to pop up to left and escaping the frame unscathed by inducing an inning-ending grounder from Adron Chambers. The Sounds' best opportunity to get on the scoreboard came in the fourth after Sean Halton opened the inning with a double and was at third with one out. Cole Garner struck out and Stephen Parker grounded out against Gast to end the frame. Halton's two-bagger was the outfielder's fourth double in his last five plate appearances, dating back to Friday evening. Nashville threatened again in the ninth. Caleb Gindl led off with a single against Marte to extend his longest hitting streak of the year to six games and advanced to second on a one-out wild pitch. The Redbirds' closer recovered to strike out Parker then broke Anderson De La Rosa's bat on a game-ending popup to short. Rehabbing infielder Jeff Bianchi went 1-for-3 in the opener and is hitting .241 (7-for-29) in his seven contests with the Sounds. Nashville Box Halton: 1-3, 2B Gindl: 1-3 De La Rosa: 0-2, BB Fiers: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R/ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 84 TP (51 strikes), 9:2 GO:FO Nashville PbP Aside from Halton's double to lead off the 4th, the Sounds' best scoring chance came at the start of the game: Nashville Bottom of the 1st -Jeff Bianchi singles on a ground ball to left fielder Justin Christian. -Ozzie Chavez out on a sacrifice bunt, catcher Rob Johnson to first baseman Brock Peterson. Jeff Bianchi to 2nd. -Hunter Morris hit by pitch. -Sean Halton strikes out swinging. -Caleb Gindl grounds out, first baseman Brock Peterson to pitcher John Gast. Nashville Gameday

  17. Sounds Win 2-1 On Balk-Off Nashville's Halton Goes 3-for-4; Three Doubles Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/Xfu8NVy.jpg Sean Halton (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tied 1-1 with two outs in the ninth inning, the Nashville Sounds benefitted from a balk charged to Memphis reliever Jorge Rondon to score outfielder Sean Halton from third for the 2-1 win over the visiting Redbirds. [sean] Halton cracked his third double of the contest with one out in the final frame and moved to third on Caleb Gindl's groundout. In the following at-bat, home plate umpire Kellen Levy ruled that Rondon did not come to a final stop during his delivery, constituting an advance on the base paths to give Nashville the win. Rondon was charged with the loss, his first. Gindl helped knot the game earlier in the game 1-1 in the fourth inning on a broken-bat single into shallow left field. The hit scored Hunter Morris from third and almost another, but the runner on second, Sean Halton, was beat to the plate on a throw from Jamie Romak. The Redbirds got on the board early, when lead-off hitter Adron Chambers scored from first on a throwing error by starting pitcher Tyler Thornburg, who hurried a throw to first on Kolten Wong's sacrifice bunt. Chambers single to left field to start the game. After the unearned run in the first, Thornburg settled in to pitch four scoreless frames, finishing with six strikeouts, two walks and five hits. The 24-year-old tossed a season-high 92 pitches in the no decision, with 62 going for strikes. Pitching out of the 'pen, Donovan Hand tossed two scoreless frames with three strikeouts, including one strikeout double play to close the sixth and another against Brock Peterson with a runner on third to end the seventh. The outing was Hand's fifth scoreless appearance of the season. Michael Olmsted and Kyle Heckathorn (1-0) combined to pitch the final two scoreless innings for Nashville; Heckathorn netting the win. Second baseman Scooter Gennett slapped a base hit through the gap at second to extend his hit streak to a Sounds best eight games, tying Anderson De La Rosa's recent tear. The Florida-native entered the contest with the Pacific Coast League's third-best batting average of .417; now sits at .406. Gindl also kept his streak alive at five games with his RBI-single in the fourth. The win, paired with Thursday's victory in the series opener, is the first time the Sounds have recorded back-to-back wins this season, improving to 7-12 on the year. The Nashville Sounds look to win their first series on Saturday night in Greer Stadium's 6:35 p.m. start. Getting the nod for Nashville will be RHP Mike Fiers (0-0 0.00) against the Redbirds lefty John Gast (2-0, 0.00). Nashville Box Gennett: 1-4 Jeff Bianchi: 1-4 Halton: 3-4, 3 2B Gindl: 1-3, RBI, BB Cole Garner: 0-2, BB The box score has Thornburg with five more pitches than the game story. 18. Since PFx1 hasn't even bothered to address this, I think you can assume that answer is "no"
  19. You can put THAT on the board
  20. I've heard about Kerbal Space Program, and only good/great things. I don't game on my computer (PS3) -- does it require a sophisticated setup? The concept of it just really intrigues me.
  21. Came here to post this. It's not your typical baseball movie, and partially for that reason, it's really well-done. Good call.
  22. This is one of my favorite posts of all-time on BF.
  23. Trenni was/is a good reporter. None of the on-air personalities being discussed in this thread can say the same. They're completely irrelevant, and the sooner they go, the better. #SOPHIA&FSWIGIRLSOUT #SOPHIA&FSWIGIRLSAXED #SOPHIA&FSWIGIRLSSENTPACKING #SOPHIA&FSWIGIRLSWHICHEXECUTIVEATFSWIMADETHESESTUPIDDECISIONS Send in your votes tonight on Twitter!
