  1. Chris McFarland tweet: Well it's snowing, 4th game cancelled... Trey Martin (Kane County/CHC) response: dude y'all need a dome out here.
  2. The weather here can stop sucking annnnnnnnyyy day now
  3. Certainly not if he can keep throwing like he has been. The only thing I don't understand is how the Brewers have been talking about how important starting pitchers learning how to pitch in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings is. Now of course you're not going to push a power arm in AA to 110 pitches at this point in this season, but he threw 72 pitches tonight and obviously was pretty dominant after the 1st, and I don't believe he threw 80 pitches in his first start. For a guy who pitched 3 years of college ball and is supposed to be a horse and a big innings eater, it'd be nice to see them push him just a touch more. 72 pitches, he's rolling, bring him back out for the 6th inning... This was a recurring theme last season at Huntsville. I sure hope this is an isolated case due to it still being early in the season, but I'm worried this trend will repeat itself this season.
  4. Here is the video: http://www.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?c_id=mlb&content_id=26207091&partnerId=as_mlb_20130412_7094784 Unreal. In the video, Scully mentions that a pitch was thrown "right over the bill" of Matt Kemp's helmet earlier in the game, and speculates that the HBP from Greinke may have been retaliation. EDIT: Skip to 9:10 in the video to see a replay of the pitch thrown to Kemp.
  5. Or Craig & Davey stammer their way through relatively useless analysis.
  6. Also: he's a terrible pitcher at this point. Win-win for you!
  7. Ahem! http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?p=821710#p821710 A hat tip to you, sir
  8. Loe was recently DFA'd, but I'm not sure whether or not that took place after this piece was posted.
  9. Interesting...but it would be DOA with the MLBPA. I'm sure this would be true. But it's still a really interesting idea to kick around.
  10. You know, an 8-man lineup in the NL is actually a really intriguing idea. I hadn't thought of or heard of that idea before.
  11. We shall call him... Yochacke
  12. Going off of some of his comments about the injury & its impact on the lineup, my main concern would be Aramis himself pushing himself back out there before he's fully healed.
  13. Thanks guys. I missed that mention in the last broadcast, and I wish I'd been able to find any updates online about him. Good to hear my pessimism was ill-founded. I agree with monty that I really hope Ramírez doesn't return too soon. Need to let that knee get back to 100%.
  14. Roenicke seems, to me, to basically be your standard big-league-lifer manager. Makes the same types of decisions most managers do, plays essentially the same strategy, doesn't really innovate. I agree that he's a good communicator, and the players definitely seem to like him a lot. And beyond keeping channels of communication open in the clubhouse, he also handles the press pretty well; I think both of those aspects have value. There were reports & implications that the players didn't like Macha, and he always came across as quite aloof. I thought Macha handled the bullpen pretty well, and I liked his lack of interest in small ball. So even though he was the tactically superior manager for me, if you lose the players you probably aren't right for the job anymore. I agree with Baldkin that Roenicke is your standard MLB manager. So in that context, he's not really hurting (or helping) the club. But I do hope the Brewers are eventually able to find someone with the tactical ability of Macha with even just an average amount of charisma.
  15. I realize this is pessimistic, but at this point I'm not expecting Ramírez back before the AS break, if at all this season. The Brewers have been mum about his injury, and imo at this point they have to have determined the severity of the injury. I can't find any updates on his status. Todd Rosiak even posted a piece yesterday about the team missing Ramírez's offense, including an added-on injury update section detailing five players' statuses. Ramírez was not included. No news definitely doesn't seem like good news at this point to me.
  16. Sounds Held To Two Hits In 3-1 Loss To RedHawks Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/b5Rws2O.jpg Dayton Buller (L) & Caleb Gindl celebrate Buller's 8th inning home run (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds were held to two hits by Oklahoma City pitchers in their 3-1 loss to the RedHawks on Wednesday evening at Greer Stadium. Nashville (3-4), which suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season, was held to one run or less for the fourth time in their seven contests. RedHawks starter Jarred Cosart (1-0) stifled the Sounds in his five scoreless frames, allowing only one run and striking out seven batters to earn the victory. Oklahoma City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning with an unearned run against Sounds starter Hiram Burgos, snapping the right-hander's scoreless streak at 19 innings. The RedHawks loaded the bags on a single and a pair of walks before Che-Hsuan Lin scampered home to score the night's first run on a passed ball charged to Nashville catcher Dayton Buller. Burgos escaped further damage in the inning by striking out Chris Wallace and retiring Trevor Crowe on a lineout to strand a pair of runners in scoring position. Oklahoma City third baseman Jimmy Paredes upped the visitors' lead to 3-0 in the fourth when he lined a two-run homer over the right field wall, his first roundtripper of the year. The blast, off Burgos, also plated Jake Elmore, who had preceded Paredes with a double. Burgos (0-1) suffered the loss for the Sounds after giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits in his five frames. He walked four batters and struck out five, throwing 52 of his 81 pitches for strikes. The Sounds squandered an early scoring opportunity, leaving the bases loaded in the second against Cosart. After the RedHawks right-hander gave up a single to Stephen Parker then issued consecutive two-out walks to Dayton Buller and Ozzie Chavez, he recovered to induce an inning-ending groundout from Caleb Gindl to thwart damage. Gindl's groundout began a stretch of 16 consecutive Nashville batters retired by Oklahoma City pitchers. Buller ended that string when he led off the bottom of the eighth with his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left that careened off the guitar-shaped scoreboard. The Nashville backstop connected on left-hander Wes Musick's 0-1 offering to make it a 3-1 contest. Jose Valdez closed out the contest with a hitless ninth for Oklahoma City to notch his second save of the year. The teams are scheduled to wrap up the four-game series with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Thursday evening. Right-hander Johnny Hellweg (1-0, 0.00) will take the hill for the Sounds to face Oklahoma City southpaw Brett Oberholtzer (0-0, 6.23). 17. Jarred Cosart was tough on the Sounds in his 5 innings tonight (1 H, 3 BB, 7 K, 0 R, 6:1 GO:FO). The former 38th round pick of the Phillies is now one of Houston's top prospects (sent in the '11 Hunter Pence trade); pretty cool story. John Sickels's writeup from his '13 Astros top 20:
  18. Sounds lineup for tonight: Gindl CF Davis SS Morris 1B Halton LF Parker 3B Garner RF Statia DH Buller C Chavez 2B
  19. Not sure where Scarpetta is headed, but from this tweet, it seems his start in AZ went well yesterday & he's off to join an affiliate:
  20. Turns out Scooter Gennett's absence yesterday was injury-related. Today, Jeff Hem tweeted:
  21. All is right in the Brewersverse
  22. Currently more than 60 degrees colder in Appleton at the moment. Sigh.
  23. Man, I hope no Brewers player literally catches on fire. Or anyone, for that matter.
