  1. Hmm, I guess I wasn't expecting to see Mondesi, Jr. pushed after a very mediocre (stats-wise) 2011 in the DSL. Interesting to see how high the Brewers apparently are on him. Hernandez (via his stats) appears to be a real speed merchant, but hasn't really yet shown a strong ability to hit. Also, I don't recall him playing much OF last season while covering the DSL link reports -- Mass, is that a typo on your part (his position on his player page is listed as 2B, which is where I remember him playing regularly last season), or have the Brewers moved Yonki?
  2. I took it that Mr. Glover is D'Vo's legal guardian, not agent. But of course I could be wrong. This is surprising on the one hand, but on the other hand I think many of us were starting to wonder whether or not D'Vo would ever play again. Best of luck, D'Vontrey.
  3. DSL Brewers 7, @DSL Angels 5 DSL Box A strong start from Gian Rizzo, combined with a four-run 5th inning, propelled the Brewers to victory. Rizzo's line: 6 IP, 7 H, 1 R/0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 9:3 GO:AO. Even though the lone run allowed was unearned, it came on a Rizzo throwing error on a close play at first base in the 3rd inning. Still, I don't want to diminish his strong start today. Six of the seven hits he allowed were scored as ground ball singles; the other hit was a double allowed in the scoreless Angels 5th inning. Rizzo definitely had the groundball working today. Once Rizzo left the game, the Angels went to work on the Cerveceritos bullpen. Felix Paulino allowed a run in his inning of work, Angel Ventura was charged for all three runs the Angels scored in the 8th, and Doni Arias walked three straight batters in relief of Ventura in said 8th inning. The Brewers called on 17-yo Melvin Tejada (RHP, 6'3", 175 lbs.) to come into his fifth career professional game with the bases loaded and two outs... in the bottom of the 8th inning... in a 6-5 game. No worries, as Tejada induced a groundball out to end the 8th, and slammed the door in the 9th (after an error led off the inning with a free baserunner for the Angels). He finished with one single allowed, two strikeouts, and two groundball outs -- including the final out of the game. Congrats to Melvin on recording his first professional save! Offensively, everyday-Carlos Pena doubled to kick-start the four-run rally in the 5th, and then socked a two-run HR in the 6th to lead the way for the Brewers. SS Carlos Belonis found another timely hit, with a two-RBI single in the 5th. 2B Alejandro Mendoza and 1B Kevin Martinez came up with back-to-back RBI singles in the 5th. 3B Raphachel Colatosti had a double and a single, along with one stolen base. Belonis, too, swiped another bag... but was also thrown out for the first time this season. LF Juan Ortiz added a stolen base as well as two walks. RF Elvis Rubio doubled once in five ABs. CF Francisco Castillo went 0-4 out of the leadoff spot, but he did come up with an OF assist for the first out in the 3rd inning when he caught a runner trying to go first-to-third on a single. His assist came just one batter before Rizzo's throwing error allowed a run to come in from second base, which all but certainly would've been a two-run error without Castillo's play. Sthervin Matos was again in the starting lineup, but again it was at DH. He went 1-4 with a walk. DSL PbP All the offense. First, the four-run 5th: DSL Brewers Top of the 5th -Sthervin Matos singles on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Jolly. -Carlos Pena doubles (3) on a fly ball to center fielder Ayendy Perez. Alejandro Mendoza out at 2nd. Kevin Martinez to 1st. -Francisco Castillo called out on strikes. After the Angels rally in the 8th to cut the defecit to 6-5, and in a manner very befitting the 2012 Cerveceritos, one more insurance run in the 9th was tacked on thanks to chaos on the basepaths: DSL Brewers Top of the 9th -Pitcher Change: Alexander Valdez replaces Ernesto DeLeon. -Francisco Castillo called out on strikes. -Raphachel Colatosti singles on a soft ground ball to pitcher Alexander Valdez. Raphachel Colatosti advances to 2nd, on throwing error by pitcher Alexander Valdez. -Carlos Belonis strikes out swinging. Wild pitch by pitcher Alexander Valdez. Raphachel Colatosti to 3rd. 4. Just off the top of my head, Dan Uggla, Adam Dunn, & Nick Swisher are all good but not elite hitters who've had disastrous down seasons or half-seasons. Each of them proved he hadn't forgotten how to hit, and I think Weeks will do the same. Dunn & Uggla were each in the first seasons of big new contracts and under pressure to be 'the guy', and I wonder if Rickie's been putting too much pressure on himself to be that 30+ HR threat the Brewers lost in Prince.
  5. Completely agree with this. The absolute lowest I want to see him sent is Wisconsin... and then I'll have another great reason to get out & watch the T-Rats!
  6. Wow, I did not see that coming. Best of luck to you, Benny!
  7. I'll even admit that it may be somewhat unhealthy, but the manlove for Epstein and Beane irks me to no end. Seriously, what is the difference between Esptein and Brian Cashman? Outside of the fact that one is younger, hired Bill James and has an Ivy League pedigree, I see none. I think that you could make the argument that Cashman actually has a better track record. I actually think Cashman is a very good GM who also happens to have seemingly unlimited money available to him. But yes, I'd agree your loathing for Epstein, Beane, et al is somewhat unhealthy. For example, why is Freidman with Tampa not as 'cool' as Beane or Epstein? You certainly don't hear about him as much. I guess I'd tell you to start reading different types of baseball publications then. There's plenty of respect for Freidman/Tampa amongst the prospect-tracking stuff. Jon Daniels is another. I guess you could probably just get by with reading TheCrew07's posts, though, too...
  8. That is quite possibly the strangest post you could find following a perfect game.
  9. I don't get it man, it's not like the guys kicked your dog or anything. Why do you care if some people view them as being good at their job? I mean no one's going around insulting your pov. You just don't seem to approach this very objectively -- if you view the Gonzalez trade to BOS as buddies "giving" a player away, then I don't think you're being fair at all. It's funny to me that you go on to list a who's who of some of the best GMs in the game, and dismiss them all. Ruben Amaro, Jr. himself said that Gillick was nearly 100% responsible for the Phillies' WS teams. So from all this, I take it that you have some snarky puns & putdowns for that overrated hack Doug Melvin? I mean he won Baseball America's MLB Executive of the Year last season, & he hasn't done squat in his second job... "mixed results but no rings" would be your phrase, I believe.
  10. The rumor at the time was Fielder for Cain. And I'm like 99% sure the other rumor, as you recalled, was Beachy for Hart. But who knows what really was offered or not. P.S. Just looking at the deals I just mentioned for a minute (and his trading Lawrie for Marcum) makes me think Melvin really overvalues MLB-proven guys and undervalues prospects. It's absolutely one of his biggest weaknesses.
  11. The price tag for Corey Hart is going to be somewhere between the Ethier & Werth contracts. Let that sink in for a moment. I just don't see a scenario where re-signing him is a good idea for the Brewers, even if Corey is willing to give a hometown discount. What would that be, something like 5 years/$60M? I'm not sure I want the Brewers to even commit that much to Hart, & that's probably an unrealistically affordable guesstimate. More realistic might be something like 5/$75M imo, and Hart might well find more on the FA market... in fact I'd guess that would be the absolute minimum for which you could sign him as a FA.
  12. "Giving" Gonzalez to the Red Sox... you do realize that was a trade he made with just one year of team salary control on Gonzo, right? That deal was nothing short of great for SD. Honestly, it's not that you have your doubts about certain GMs, it's the arrogance with which you dismiss them that irks me. "Rebuilding excuse" -- it's not an excuse, it's really what they're doing with the Cubs.
  13. I just don't think we as fans will ever have any realistic kind of insight on how well or poorly a hitting/pitching coach is doing his job. Just because players X, Y, & Z are struggling... or players A, B, & C are doing well... it doesn't tell you if a coach is doing his job well or not. It's not that I think it's not worth discussing, it's that I don't think we'll ever have access to the correct information about whether or not a coach is doing well or poorly.
  14. Yeah, it's Narron's fault that Weeks has sucked, but he has nothing to do with the success of Aoki, Braun, Lucroy, & others. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the 'fire Kranitz/Narron' threads have popped up, but let's take a step back.
  15. Look at how much money Jayson Werth got. Not saying someone else will make that huge of an offer to Corey, but if he wants to test FA, it's bye-bye Corey.
  16. He's gone 3 for 4 tonight and now has his batting average up to .307 with a .390 OBP and a .943 OPS. As a 19 year old. Wow! The guy is still 8-9 years away from his peak.... So yeah, it's looking like the Nats absolutely made the right call in promoting & challenging him. He's an absolutely sensational hitter.
  17. Oh, also, the DSL game still hasn't been updated yet. I'm off to bed.
  18. Yeah, holy cow how did I miss that he's been with BC? I guess I just assumed he'd be headed for Helena & was in Ext. ST or something. I remembered that he'd been 'assigned' to Huntsville as a paper move, but wow... for him to be doing what he's doing at BC is just awesome. Now watch the uber-conservative Brewers still send him to Helena.
  19. RockCo, I don't get your seemingly unwarranted loathing of any GM who develops the reputation of being good.
  20. My guess is Estrada
  21. Ethier's a better defender than Hart, and like Briggs & 3and2 note, has his stats suppressed by playing in Chavez Ravine & the NL West in general. I think he's definitely a better hitter than Hart, but probably not like $40M better
  22. Don't miss Rock looking very Miami Vice, bottom row, 3rd from the right.
  23. Honestly I just thought the writing in The Pacific was awful. I realize part of why I'm harsh on it is BoB's excellence, but objectively I just thought The Pacific was bad all on its own.
  24. Yep, that regime on the Northside is going to return the Cubs to being playoff contenders before long.
