  1. How nice of you to try so hard. It's different philosophies, it's not that one way is stupid or not. The Rays, coincidentally, aren't afraid at all to push a prospect when they have faith in his talent being ready -- see David Price.
  2. Was he destroying AAA before he was *going* to be called up, when the wrist injury derailed the initial callup (obv. he was then later called up)? I'm asking honestly.
  3. I didn't see a single person say Lawrie wasn't ready last year, I didn't read one single person make that comment on this forum or the fantasy forums. Iirc the Jays were set to call Lawrie up, but he injured something (wrist?) so that plan was scrapped, then he got called up later in the season. Iirc there was plenty of discussion about how, because his MiLB stats weren't nice at that point, he couldn't possibly be ready. MiLB stats are useful, but only to a point. I'll agree to disagree on Harper. The Nats appear to be an organization that recognizes the value in pushing its elite young talent. I think he's going to hit, and very much justify the callup.
  4. This is almost exactly what was said about Lawrie not being ready for MLB. Harper's promotion is all about his talent, not his MiLB stats.
  5. Talent should be dictating this type of move. Wily Peralta to the rotation, Estrada in the bullpen. Oh, but Peralta is "nervy" -- can't have someone being "nervy", gotta go with AAAA arms who just stink without being "nervy". (<-- last sentence aimed at RR, not you brettac1)
  6. Not to mention an extremely tight zone that definitely seemed a little looser (imo) when Westbrook was on the mound.
  7. I'm out of town tomorrow night, otherwise I would. I hope someone else can step up for you. I have to echo Mass Haas's comment -- great job this month, Crew & Tedaldtada.
  8. I've been a Walla bandwagoner for a little while now... not very long, mind you. But yeah, the guy is put together & physically there's not much to stop him from becoming a big-leaguer. Really nice to see the great starts from Gagnon & Nelson. The system is really full of arms right now; plenty of reasons to feel good about the state of Brewers pitching prospects.
  9. If it makes you feel any better (or worse), that just made me laugh.
  10. This tweet from Sports32 reporter JP Cadorin includes a pre-game shot of the T-Rats:
  11. Wow, the Gindl home run didn't even look like a very good swing on the ball. Dude is strong.
  12. I never felt McGehee was a proven player. With a stunning .797 OPS over said time period. I get that he was adequate at the plate for a small part of last season. The problem is that he was terrible for the bulk of the season, along with being awful on defense. With all this said, I'm actually really warming up to Roenicke overall. I think the act of keeping Gamel out of a few recent games after the collision at the plate is discussion-worthy. One way in which RR can help the team is working towards injury prevention (as best he's able), and I think he's probably been an asset overall in that respect so far in his tenure with the Brewers. For as much as us fans like to clamor that 'player X doesn't need a day off! his replacement is so much worse!', RR really seems to have a great bead on how his guys are feeling... both physically & mentally. I realize the in-game strategic moves will probably always be the main way in which fans evaluate managers, but the more exposure I have to Roenicke, the more it seems obvious that he's providing value behind the scenes.
  13. Via a Chris Mehring tweet, here's an interview Matt Salmon did with Drew Gagnon for ESPNMilwaukee: http://www.stationcaster.com/player_skinned.php?s=71&c=502&f=507161 Fun fact: Drew has pitched at Fenway Park! ('10 Cape Cod ASG)
  14. Sorry Menotti. Good luck on the hunt.
  15. Large gap between great and bad enough to lose his job though. The stretch of May through July is exactly what people refer to when they say RR stuck with McGehee too long. It wasn't like he was just getting unlucky, he flat-out forgot how to hit last season. You could see it when you watched his PAs, & you could see it in the results.
  16. Or, if nothing else, we would have a significantly better 'pen. Going with Peralta as the replacement SP is just a no-brainer imo, largely because of the way it aids the BP depth.
  17. And the other aspect of the bullpen is that simply bringing back Hawkins & Saito doesn't mean you get their 2011 production replicated. Imo it was definitely the right move to let them walk. The pitching the Brewers had last season (including SPs staying healthy) just doesn't happen every single season, even when you have a good pitching staff.
  18. Ishikawa's career MLB numbers indicate he's not a bad option to be a bench bat against RHP. However, his lack of success in the hitter's haven that is the west coast PCL last season indicates that he probably doesn't belong on a big-league roster. It's a tough case imo. I really can't complain about him being on the roster too much, Izturis is the guy that needs to go.
  19. Yeah, you do not want to tell them that's why you're taking a day. You also shouldn't feel bad about making up an excuse to take the day. Good luck with the interview!
  20. Couldn't agree more.
  21. I just feel terrible for Narveson. Goes from being exposed to all of MLB on waivers by the Cardinals to earning a rotation spot with the Brewers, and being a big part of the historic season in 2011... and I'd have to guess that so far this season, he must've felt a certain degree of 'I've made it, and I'm here to say in the bigs'. And then this. Just shows you how careers in MLB (esp. pitchers') can change in the blink of an eye. Best of luck getting back, Chris -- you have every Brewers fan in your corner.
