  1. you would have to pay me to take Zambrano off the Cubs hands. They did pay them. $15.5M.
  2. I can see your point about needed to get to the rim, but outside of Tayler I dont see it happening. Yeah, it's not going to be happening, and neither is those guys filling up the basket with 3's. My point was that Ryan has recruited a roster of unathletic guys who can't really shoot that well, and I hate it. Jordan Taylor is the only Badger who can do anything close to creating his own shot, and even Taylor isn't all that gifted in that regard. This is going to be a looooong, disappointing season.
  3. Last night was way less about getting to the rim as at was missing open shots. I don't think the guys they have are good shooters, so to me, it is about getting to the rim, or at least attacking the basket. Not that they have the personnel to do either, but it's gotten so old to see everyone aside from Taylor standing around & waiting to jack a 3.
  4. I feel like all I ever wind up doing when I post in these discussions is poop on the Bo Ryan Way. But I'll keep that one-dimensional tonight & say that all I'd really like to see is for Bo to recruit great athletes. If you're going to have guys that simply can't score (like they currently do), at least let them be athletic freaks so they can maybe throw down on someone or just legitimately attack the rim. I'd love to see guys like Wilson get more PT.
  5. Forbes video interview with Axford. He discusses, among other things, building the John Axford brand.
  6. Melvin also was named BA's executive of the year for 2011... I don't recall seeing that ever posted here at BF (link)
  7. Thanks for the feedback, RoCo. AC sounds like the way to go (& I played a decent amount of AA, I just didn't buy it). Once I tire of Arkham City, I have Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 all ready to roll. Man, I sooo wish I'd found the controller bundle with Uncharted instead of Resistance. After playing Resistance for a bit, I'm really thinking it's not my type of game at all. But I'm not going to give up on it yet. Uncharted just looks so cool!
  8. Yeah, the nicer part of town is kind of where I'd expect him to live. (or NE Virginia)
  9. That seems like a great fit. It would be awesome to live in DC, too.
  10. I don't own either game - would you recommend just getting Arkham City?
  11. To flip the concept of this thread, the Brewers are one Greinke extension away from being perennial contenders.
  12. How do we know we couldn't have traded have Hart for Cain as was the popular rumor? The popular rumor was Prince for Cain, not Hart for Cain. How do we know Buchholz couldn't have been had when he was on the block in 2009 as the Sox were trying to keep pace with the Yankees? Melvin tried to trade for him & found the price too high. I respect your stance in this discussion, man, but these are two items you've brought up & been corrected on before.
  13. I've held off on Arkham City, but loved AA, & AC looks amazing. AA is actually the next game I'd wanted to buy, & I almost did when I made my most recent purchases.
  14. Via MLBTR - http://www.mlbtraderumors...uire-carlos-quentin.html The two prospects are Simon Castro & Pedro Hernandez. Castro was rated by BA as the #58 prospect in MLB pre-2011 (#57 pre-'10).
  15. They also got Garza for 3 full seasons, & he's still under team salary control through next year, too. So to compare that trade with the Sabathia trade is almost apples to oranges, & ultimately makes TheCrew07's point for him.
  16. Morgan Ensberg, from back when there were Morgan-Ensberg-to-the-Brewers? discussions!
  17. Since we have depleted the farm system in recent years, and have blocked our top prospects, who will fill out the "inexpensive star player" roles in a couple of years? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Brewers go after a well-developed college bat at the top of their draft this year. Either that or a really high-ceiling HS bat (which I'd prefer, but my guess is they'll pick someone closer to ready for MLB). We've pretty much destroyed any trade value of Green, who now will be stuck in AAA or on the MLB bench for the next three years. I don't think his trade value has been destroyed. I also don't think Green is the caliber of player that you worry about blocking. Is he a good hitter & useful player for a team that needs to keep its costs down? Yes. But he's definitely not the type of hitter you can't find pretty regularly (imo). I think Ramirez should be expected to outhit him by a wide margin in 2012, & quite possibly for the entirety of his three-year contract. tl;dr - I like Green, but I think he's terribly overvalued on BF.net
  18. Imo doing something 'for the sake of doing something' in this situation would have been keeping Bailey on a team that wasn't expected to contend in 2012 or all that soon. Anytime you can turn a RP into some good prospects, it's a good time to make a deal.
  19. Surprised this thread was all the way on the third page. Anyway, I spent some Christmas money today. The best part to just getting a PS3 this year is that all the old great games are around $20 or so, used. So I got MW2 for $20. Solid. But I also needed another controller. So I learned that there were holiday bundles of a controller + 2 games for five bucks more than just a new controller. I found a bundle with Resistance & Resistance 2. So that's a great deal, but it also makes me feel ill about how much profit mfgrs. are making on controllers at $55 per & games around there or more. Anyway, I don't really know where to start. I've beaten MW1, & it was obviously great. I've read that MW2 is at least as good, if not better, so I have no worries. But the Resistance franchise also gets off-the-charts reviews. They're not the normal type of game I'm drawn to (I've played FIFA '12 exclusively for a while now, I'm addicted), but I'm excited to get them essentially for free.
  20. This thread already has all-time great potential New sponsor... new business venture from Mark? -- Attanasio's Shelled Pistachios?
  21. Anybody else think this could work? Absolutely not. Beyond the age concerns... Jorge Posada, career Yankee, fringe HOF candidate... now he's going to just sign with the Brewers? I don't think so.
  22. If ever there were a player to make the case that the Brewers should go with Gamel, it's Morse. Guy didn't get a fulltime shot until well into his 20s, & what do you know, he didn't forget how to hit from the time he was a 3rd round draft pick out of H.S. (Gamel was a 4th rounder).
  23. Honestly at this point I don't mind having Schafer as depth. The real contending teams (imo) have depth all across the roster, and Schafer as a 5th (or even 6th) OF is a great situation for the Brewers to be in imo. Plus, with the service time/veterans-r-us concerns, Schafer hasn't spent a full year at AAA yet, so it's totally palatable to ask him to start there in 2012. I have zero problem with the outfield as currently constructed... and I do mean that including Aoki or not.
  24. In response to paul's last post, I'm not sure if you're aware just HOW much bigger the gulf in quality is from mcgehee to ramirez than fielder to gamel. I mean, maybe you are, but that's where the difference is from you projecting the brewers to be about 10 wins worse than 2011. There's an incredibly slim chance that they'd lose that many more games next season, & it wouldn't be due to losing fielder & braun being suspended... it,d be more likely due to variance/ luck &injuries
  25. For me, you summed up why d'vo was in the top20 with your last sentence. Guys like reed or even ke. Davis could roar past him with impressive seasons, but for right now imo d,vo has the best combo of athleticism/upside and development/production for of prospects not named schafer or gindl.
