  1. Is that the EDR-spawn actually, knowingly going Beast Mode?
  2. Thanks, trwi. Nice to listen to Narron talk about him at length.
  3. Where did you hear or read this? I'm interested.
  4. He even said they haven't really scouted him much so they're going to bring him to AZ to get a better look at him and then think about offering him a contract. Is it just me, or does this seem like irresponsible GM'ing?

  6. I probably don't have guys in precisely the right order, but I feel alright about that as a field of top 30.
  7. Yep, that's a painful but fair summary of Melvin's failure last season.
  8. Melvin did look into trading for Buchholz back in 2009. link
  9. Marcum basically pitched to his career norms in his first season back from TJ surgery. I don't know if that was just a big aberration, but I think the Cards getting Wainwright back is absolutely huge. I don't see how it can be downplayed.
  10. Don't use WAR, you don't have to. Betancourt sucks as a hitter & he sucks as a fielder. It hardly even takes trying to improve over him. I doubt you can find one comment from a scout anywhere that praises anything Betancourt does, except for occasionally run into a pitch & hit it hard. Meanwhile scouts all across the league gush over Escobar's defense, or Sea Bass's for that matter.
  11. I would have thought Danks could net 3-4 solid prospects, but apparently Kenny didn't like the offers he was getting. Well, he has plenty more time to entertain trade offers now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Danks really isn't that good A guy who put up three consecutive seasons with a sub-4 ERAs, pitching half his games each season at The Cell, is pretty impressive. He was hampered by an oblique injury mid-season, which could explain his regression in ERA.
  12. So I probably just wasted a bunch of your time if anyone actually read all that, but long story short, personally I was disappointed. Not at all, you answered exactly how I was hoping -- thanks. I guess I'm going to have to see if I can check out The King is Dead from the library before buying it.
  13. Oh, man, I (still) think The Hazards of Love is brilliant. I definitely like it more than The Crane Wife (which I love, fwiw). Can you explain a bit more? I really like The Decemberists, but didn't even realize they had a new album out... so obviously I'm no diehard. Please bear in mind my above response to Glennron about Hazards of Love.
  14. Hey, so far Joe D hands-down wins that comparison -- Marilyn Monroe. Totally agree on your assessment of their respective LARP (looks abv. replacement), but apparently Joe D was more clutch in the ladykilling dept. than Braun has been to this point.
  15. Straight up it might sound like an overpay but I think the Reds can afford to do this because they have a surplus of starting pitchers. What I don't get is why they would use that surplus to get a guy who'll pitch 75-80 innings in a best-case scenario. I do agree that they've got as good a shot as anyone at contending in the 2012 NL Central, but I would've said that prior to this deal, too.
  16. He only hit 4 homers in nearly 600 AB last season. I believe it was mentioned in this thread, but the NPB went to a new ball this past season & offense was way down across the league. I recall reading somewhere that Aoki's 'decline' was right in line, percentage-wise, with other top players & the rest of the league. To project his offense in 2012 MLB, it'd probably be a decent guesstimation to find the mid-point between Aoki's 2011 rate stats & an avg. of his rate stats for the previous four seasons. Now with all that said, I don't think the dude has much more than gap power... but gap power with a knack for making solid contact with the ball. He'll hit, but closer to a Nyjer Morgan than a Corey Hart.
  17. The Royals paid the $2M buyout or whatever it was he had remaining on his contract when traded to Milwaukee. So they are, in essence, paying him $4M or more this season to be their reserve infielder.
  18. Agreed on McAvoy too, but I didn't want to crap so completely on Robert's post. McAvoy was ok, some scenes he really worked, others not really.
  19. There were discussions like this last offseason too, I think it's just people thinking 'what if?' I don't think it's likely the Brewers will be out of the race enough to be sellers, especially when they have to be far enough out by Melvin's measure. I get the feeling BF.net's feeling of 'out of the race' wouldn't be as liberal as DM's.
  20. The posting fee paid by BOS for Matsuzaka was eerily similar at $51.1M (source). And I believe Darvish's stats are notably better than Dice-K's were, but I won't trust my memory fully.
  21. Nice, we'll finally get to find out if Ned 'nick-neds' him Yuni-y Also, WE'RE FREEEEE!
  22. Rollins has played his entire career with the Phillies -- going back to being a 2nd round pick in 1996. I can see how that might affect how hard it'd be to play for another team.
  23. "I tried to contact you but I ended up giving it to charity." The Human Fund. Money for people.
  24. Compared to January Jones, Jennifer Lawrence should get an Oscar for her work in X-Men. Absolutely, but that just means she was better than garbage! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. Probably also true http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
