  1. I forgot about Berkman at 1B. Good for the Cards, that's a lot of money to save.
  2. Says a fan of the team that signed Jeff Suppan... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif By the way, this is the Rangers fans' version of Fielder going to the Cards or Cubs. That would be a bummer.
  3. Yeah, Prince actually makes a lot of sense for the Classies now. Maybe he can go in & actually class that team up -- no more whining, no more self-righteous crap... just baseball & fun.
  4. Wow, he hit pretty well in the FSL (.273/.341/.424/.766, 304 AB) & then even better (.780 OPS, 47 AB) after being promoted to AA Springfield. Given his build, I'd have to guess he handles SS at least reasonably well. This could be a nice little steal for the Brewers. EDIT: A couple images of Bolivar - http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2011/07/11/36E67n3E.jpg Link, from a game last season One more from, a photographer's site
  5. Wow, Wilson AND Pujols in the same offseason. If this is true, wow.
  6. Jon Heyman is practically on Scott Boras's payroll. Anything he has to say about a Boras client should be taken with several grains of salt. Well I guess we're going to find out pretty soon just who's in & who's out on Fielder. This should be fun.
  7. Wow, this is excellent news. So long, Pujols. I'm going to enjoy you continuing to be a sanctimonious prick in a division my favorite team doesn't play in.
  8. As someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, the Sawx are a decent trade possibility for the Brewers. Not only that, but they have two shortstops that they may consider surplus (Lowrie, Scutaro). I hope Melvin is able to handle this situation smoothly & not clunk out another Hardy-Gomez deal.
  9. I'm surprised the Cards think Komatsu is close to being ready for even backup MLB duty. Just one of many examples of how they appear to be far more comfortable with young players than the Brewers.
  10. I think K-Rod certainly made this bed for himself with his 'If I'm not closing I'm not happy' comments last season. He didn't factor in that there are several other closer options out there on this FA market, with some being better options. This definitely seems like a good problem for the Brewers to have. K-Rod has zero leg to stand on if he whines at any point about closing/not closing, so the Brewers could just tell him to shut up if that happens. I'd imagine there will be several teams contacting DM about possibly trading for Rodriguez over the next few days. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
  11. If Melvin doesn't recognize how much better a fit Alex Gonzalez is than Betancourt... I think that'll seal the deal for my opinion of him going from 'full support' to 'time to move on'. This shift hasn't been a short process, more like long & agonizing, but still. Time to make Alex Gonzalez the Brewers' next priority, DM. Going off DM's comments about Betancourt right after the Greinke trade... 'Hey Doug! Alex Gonzalez hit more HR than Betancourt did in 2011 -- he's clearly more valuable!'
  12. I think the contracts they sign the FA's to will be so team-unfriendly that they'll have a hard time unloading to rebuild. That may be true. However, if they look to unload someone like Buehrle after next season (assuming he pitches to his norms in '12), I'd imagine they'd have several big-market teams interested. And on Bell, they'd be trading (after '12) an elite closer on a two-year deal. There should be a market there. Like I mentioned, I don't think they have any intention of flipping Reyes right away. Maybe they should, though.
  13. For all that people were worried/are worrying about how K-Rod might implode for a monstrous ERA next season, if I had to pick between having him back & having Hawk back, it'd be K-Rod. I think the Brewers got about all they could've hoped from Hawk, & then some. Best of luck to him, as he was nothing but a good pitcher, good person & great teammate while with the Brewers.
  14. Wow, that's a lot. Buehrle has been incredibly durable & good for his career, but wow. I wonder if they're planning another firesale after '12 to rebuild around Johnson/Stanton/Reyes.
  15. Could he can legitimately back up the whole infield (sans 1B)? If so, that might be a nice addition. Like getting a Nishiyoka but not asking him to start immediately. I for one thinks it's quite insane to spend $2 million Just to talk to someone. It's similar to the international soccer free agent process. You compensate the team for the loss of the player, then work out a contract with said player. As endaround said, if you don't work out a deal you typically get your money back from the club.
  16. Hat tip to MLBTR (as usual); the Rockies have reported this trade as final.
  17. Didn't want to start a new thread, but Adam McCalvy's latest blog post is titled "Brewers, Hawkins heating up?"
  18. I promise you Maysonet will not see Milwaukee next season, barring multiple injuries. The Brewers will bring in a starting SS & utility IF guy that can back up at SS via free agency or trade.
  19. This discussion has now come up every offseason since the Brewers acquired Gomez. Here are his slash lines by season... '09: .229/.287/.337/.623 '10: .247/.298/.357/.655 '11: .225/.276/.403/.679 '09-'11: .234/.288/.362/.650 At this point, I think it's pretty unreasonable to expect production that's much different. He's an elite-caliber defender whose hitting philosophy is 'swing hard in case you hit it'. It sure would be nice if he grew into more, but with zero signs of growth or progress over the past three seasons, I don't see why progress should be expected now.
  20. This would be a solid solution for the left side. It's so simple, it's painful.
  21. I think the Brewers know what they've got in Green, & don't believe he's a fulltime starting option. I think Green has assumed the role filled late in the season by Hairston, & the Brewers are going to make a move to add a third baseman. If you can keep Ramirez at two seasons with maybe a vesting option for a third, I think he's a good target. He can definitely still hit.
  22. For Rollins, I wouldn't want to go any longer than 3 seasons, and would prefer a team option for that 3rd season. I realize that wouldn't get a deal done, most likely. I guess he'll get 4 years from Philly.
  23. I don't think teams would line up for him. He offers very little on defense & is an average righty bat at best.
  24. The Dodgers are taking the anti-Marlins approach this offseason. This, like the Marlins' spending spree is in reverse, is a great example of why a salary floor would be a bad idea.
  25. Holy crap. Manzanillo's definitely very lucky to be alive. Hang in there, Santo.
