  1. I don't get it either. Marcum was a great pitcher for the entire season minus the last few weeks and suddenly it was a terrible trade. Does that mean that trading for Yuni was great because he was pretty good in the playoffs, even though he sucked all season? There were plenty of people who didn't like the trade at the time, fwiw. I didn't, & still don't, but I also like Marcum.
  2. Oh this reminds me I wanted to post this, as I hadn't seen it on BF at all yet (noticed it on the MLB Network's ticker a few days ago) -- the GM meetings this season will be held in Milwaukee. Keep in mind that the GM Meetings are not the Winter Meetings, but it's still neat. http://milwaukee.brewers....ey=news_mil&c_id=mil
  3. Is his defense so fantastic that he can be considered anything more than moderate upgrade/push over Yuni? Probably not; I think it's more that what he's good at is so direly needed as the Brewers are presently constructed. When Rickie Weeks has been your best infield defender for at least one full season, your infield defense needs improving. Barmes/Weeks is pretty solid in terms of defense, & I really think that's why he has so much appeal to many.
  4. Like I said, I don't agree with everything Breen wrote up.
  5. You aren't helping your defense of Breen here. If this were true, the Marlins would have no need to trade someone away for a piece they can pick up as a FA. I don't agree with everything Breen had to say, I just thought him getting called amateurish was annoying. Besides, the presumed value Narveson would have to the Marlins is cost control. The Brewers as Breen-sently constructed would be able to afford to spend on a #4/#5 starter. Obviously the Marlins could too, but the assumption about them is always that they're cheap.
  6. His "plan" has no pitching depth except Peralta, despite a plethora of guys coming off injuries. It has plenty of depth. Guys like Narveson can be found in FA every offseason, & with the way Breen constructs the roster (affordable Fiers/Peralta/Estrada as #5 starter), the Brewers would have the flexibility to make an addition to the bullpen or starting rotation via FA or trade without breaking the bank. He has Fiers as the #5 SP, and Estrada in the bullpen. He also says the #5 spot should be fine between Peralta, Fiers, & Estrada. Estrada could easily get stretched out if need be, & Peralta's one flight or bus ride away from joining the team. Saito is the primary set-up man in Breen's scenario. You didn't really even read what I quoted in my last post, let alone the article. Is he listed second after John Axford on the graphic? Yes. Does he also explicitly say that Saito would not be relied up on as the primary set-up man? Yes. I just don't get why you felt like crapping on what was clearly a carefully thought-out post, complete with Breen critiquing his idea's strengths & weaknesses.
  7. I'd seen a few rumors earlier this offseason that the Marlins might be big spenders this offseason to help open the new stadium. Should be an interesting offseason.
  8. Yes, but it's more that I have family who live & breathe Royals. I just try to pretend to not notice Ned.
  9. Painfully amateurish. Breen does a pretty good job blogging the Brewers. Painfully amateurish is just absurd. Given your comments, you don't seem to have read the piece, but instead just skimmed the synopsis that begins it. He clearly put a good amount of research into this. So there are your two posted complaints with Breen's post, actually addressed in the piece. Maybe read the whole thing next time before resorting to name-calling.
  10. Ok. Honestly I didn't realize he's entering his age-31 season.
  11. I seriously don't understand how this trade happened. However, since I have an uncle & cousin who are lifelong, diehard Royals fans, I love it. The Royals have definitely started to become my AL team. EDIT:1) Sign Melky Cabrera to 1-yr./$1.25M deal2) ? [somehow get a career year out of him]3) Profit! [flip him for Sanchez]
  12. That video has to be about as pretentious & obnoxious as it gets. I get that it's supposed to be very, very professional & top-flight, but give me a break!
  13. Fwiw, here's how it was written -- "Many of the same names were in play in the Braves-Brewers talks — Beachy-for-Cain was discussed, as was Jurrjens-for-Brett Lawrie. But, ultimately, the teams could not agree and Cain went to the Royals in the Zack Greinke deal." That could mean that the Braves were the ones who said no, we'll never know for sure I guess.
  14. This thread definitely warrants being pinned atop the forum's main page imho
  15. Didn't want to start a new thread for this. Per MLBTradeRumors --
  16. I think he looked good, but not great in this one game. His control wasn't great, but imo aside from that he pitched really well -- mixed his arsenal up nicely, & definitely showed some good stuff. His slider in particular was a bit wild, but it also had good break. I thought he utilized his changeup nicely & executed it pretty well. I can see why Andy Pettite gets brought up as a physical (perhaps also potential/production) comparison, his delivery was eerily similar to Pettitte's. Honestly the pitcher that I thought looked the best after Danny Hultzen was Jeremy Jeffress. His fastball was sitting at 97-98, he was locating it well, & his curve produced several ugly swings. He also struck out the last batter he faced on what looked like a slider (breaking pitch at 87; the CB was around 79-81)... I don't remember him having a slider with the Brewers.
  17. I don't think it's merely perception to say that. I guess we'll disagree.
  18. BA & Rock have developed a really fun on-air relationship. I know what you mean, Nottso, BA really knows how to burn Rock. Usually cracks me up.
  19. It was just a joke. Many of the proposals in this thread have been fairly unrealistic.
  20. I'm somewhat shocked by this revelation Same here. Thanks for all you've done, Jim. I can say that I probably contributed about 1/10th - 1/20th this season of what you did for 11 years, & found it a little taxing by, oh, August or so http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif So I made it maybe three months on 1/10th or so the workload & 'felt the burn'. I have no idea how you've kept that fire burning so bright for so long. Best wishes to you, congrats on the expanding family, and don't be too much of a stranger.
  21. If you didn't think that movie was funny, I really don't know what to say. Did you think it wasn't funny because basically everyone else that's seen it thought it was hilarious?
  22. So basically... you're saying the Braves want to trade McCann+Heyward+Hanson for Hart+Gindl? I guess I could do that, if they threw in Freeman.
  23. I remember reading that Melvin did this same kind of thing when interviewing post-Yost.
  24. What little exposure I had to watching Francona the in-game manager, I liked. Then again, managing an AL team really isn't that hard, strategically.
