  1. I other words anyone who disagrees with you about how good Ron is isn't being objective? Not because it's someone who disagrees with me. Because I think that would be someone disagreeing with facts. Yet here we are playing better than expected. That is objective fact. It is not made up. It is verifiable. It's... almost like there's some really tangible explanation for it, like excellent pitching.
  2. And you're fighting a bad fight because you automatically assume that he is driving over the cliff, regardless of result. This is a broad & baseless statement. Let's just be honest about this discussion. What this statement -- "up to this point he hasn't been a "bad" manager" -- & the many like it really mean is, "the Brewers are winning, so why can't you relax & enjoy it?". I don't think anyone who's objective can agree that RR has been an asset at manager. Just some people are really driven crazy by the details on this team not being done right, and some aren't. Really it's fine either way, imo, but when it starts breaking down into what fans are on the "good" side, & what fans aren't, it's just annoying. The team is winning, and people are upset with RR. He's had success to this point and that upsets people? If you're here to argue whether or not people are enjoying themselves, or declare that the "good fight" fans are here to scold others for 'not enjoying' this season, then I think you're just not having the same discussion I am, & many here are.
  3. Try not to forget how bad of a situation the Mets were in there. It's not really a fleecing by any stretch imo.
  4. I commend Backupcatchers for fighting the good fight so far. I probably shouldn't even waste my time on this, but if the "good fight" is defending a clearly bad in-game strategist with 'hey he hasn't driven the team bus off a cliff!', I'm happy to say I have been fighting & will continue to fight the "bad fight". But to this point he at least hasn't [expletive deleted] anything up. Up to this point he hasn't been a "bad" manager. I don't think you're being objective at all. I think he's messed plenty of things up, & continues to do so.
  5. Hmm, Rosario's an arm I don't like to see them lose, but at the same time he's probably a reliever all the way.
  6. Final: Billings 14, @Helena 9 Helena Box Score Helena couldn't overcome the Billings offense, who scored seven runs in the 2nd inning, & led by ten heading into the bottom of the 7th. Steve Felix hit two more home runs, and Yadiel Rivera & Robbie Garvey each had three hits to lead the offense for Helena. Rivera & Kenny Allison also homered. Parker Berberet doubled twice; Garvey & Kyle Dhanani doubled once apiece. Max Walla singled twice. Mike Strong had a brutal but short outing: eight runs, including four homers, recording just four outs. Chad Pierce came on in relief, & worked 3.2 innings with four runs allowed. Alex Jones allowed two runs (one earned) over two innings. 14th-rounder Jacob Barnes stands out in the box score, with three strikeouts to zero walks in two shutout innings. Barnes's were the only two innings aside from the 3rd in which Billings didn't score. Helena Play-by-Play Helena tried to rally in both the 8th & 9th innings, but couldn't sustain their offense long enough in either case: Helena Bottom of the 8th Kyle Dhanani doubles (13) on a fly ball to center fielder Bryson Smith. Steve Felix walks. With Kenneth Allison batting, passed ball by Yovan Gonzalez, Kyle Dhanani to 3rd. Steve Felix to 2nd. Kenneth Allison strikes out swinging. Gant Elmore walks. Pitcher Change: Jason Braun replaces Carlos Contreras. Robert Garvey singles on a ground ball to center fielder Bryson Smith, deflected by second baseman Ryan Wright. Kyle Dhanani scores. Steve Felix scores. Gant Elmore to 2nd. Yadiel Rivera hit by pitch. Gant Elmore to 3rd. Robert Garvey to 2nd. Benjamin McMahan grounds into double play, third baseman Sammy Diaz to first baseman Nick O'Shea. Robert Garvey out at 3rd. Score now at 14-7. Helena Bottom of the 9th Parker Berberet doubles (14) on a fly ball to left fielder Spencer Dickinson. Max Walla singles on a ground ball to pitcher Jason Braun. Parker Berberet scores. Max Walla to 2nd. Throwing error by pitcher Jason Braun. Kyle Dhanani grounds out, second baseman Ryan Wright to first baseman Nick O'Shea. Max Walla to 3rd. Steve Felix out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Spencer Dickinson. Max Walla scores. Kenneth Allison grounds out, second baseman Ryan Wright to first baseman Nick O'Shea. Couldn't string together enough hits... coming back from down 14-4 is no easy task.
  7. Green's swing on the low changeup was a good two-strike swing, & I think you could see a bit of his power in that line drive. This guy will turn in good at-bats & has decent power.
  8. Roenicke isn't putting the team in a position to win when he continues to play a very bad SS EVERY DAY without sitting him and then reasoning it with the "fact" that he has hit the ball hard, despite atrocious overall season numbers. I wonder if Ron's a little too accepting of effort & camaraderie as a manager. Not as cut-throat as fans like me would like to see. Hairston not starting ahead of Betancourt continues to make me sad.
  9. So you're saying Fiers is like a righthanded version of Moyer?
  10. I started thinking about this in the 8/30 Link Report thread... At any given point in the 2012 seaosn, Wisconsin could/should feature: - Max Walla, Yadiel Rivera, Nick Ramirez, Tyler Roberts, John Dishon, Ben McMahan, Cameron Garfield - Drew Gagnon, Tommy Toledo, Tyler Cravy, Andy Moye, Brooks Hall, Seth Harvey, Maverick Lasker, Eric Arnett They should be a LOT more entertaining than this year's incarnation.
  11. Sorry I missed this in recapping last night's game -- I usually try to catch things like OF assists... as long as they weren't given as part of a relay http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Max Walla is on of the players I'm most excited to see next season at Wisconsin. He's had a pretty good season this go-round in the Pioneer League, & it was just his age-20 season.
  12. I think DHonks has a good guess with Kjeldgaard. McClendon + Kjeldgaard isn't a bad return on the K-Rod situation from the Mets' p.o.v. Especially if they think Kjeldgaard is ready to be pushed up the farm system. If the Mets got Fiers in this deal, kudos to them. I don't expect him to be on the list, but what do I know.
  13. Seriously though, how can a veteran MLB player have such poor fundamentals that he doesn't know any better than to wrap his entire hand around the bat when bunting? Greinke does the same thing when he bunts. WITH HIS PITCHING HAND. Drives me crazy.
  14. Final: @Helena 6, Billings 4 Helena Box Score A strong relief outing from Tommy Toledo & a key three-run homer by Steve Felix propelled the Brewers to victory in their second-to-last game of the season. Toledo entered the game in relief of starter Drew Gagnon in the second inning, after Gagnon had walked his third batter of the inning & fourth of the game. Toledo walked the first batter he faced, forcing in a run, but got the next batter to end the inning. Toledo surrendered a two-run homer in the third inning, but then retired 14 of the next 16 hitters, and didn't allow another run. He finished with a line of 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R/ER, 2 BB, & 4 K. David Goforth allowed one run on two hits in two innings of relief following Toledo. Felix drove in five RBI on the game, and his only hit came in the form of a three-run blast in the 6th. His other two RBI came via a groundout & via a fielder's choice. Max Walla was 1-3 with a double & a walk. Adrian Williams went 1-3 with a double; Yadiel Rivera was 1-5 with a double. Tyler Roberts went 2-4; Kyle Dhanani & Ben McMahan each went 1-4. Helena Play-by-Play Billings took a 3-2 lead after scoring twice in the 3rd. That score held until the home half of the 6th: Helena Bottom of the 6th Parker Berberet strikes out swinging. Max Walla grounds out, second baseman Ryan Wright to first baseman Robert Maddox. Kyle Dhanani reaches on fielding error by shortstop Juan Perez. Tyler Roberts singles on a fly ball to center fielder Bryson Smith. Kyle Dhanani to 2nd. Steve Felix homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Kyle Dhanani scores. Tyler Roberts scores. Adrian Williams hit by pitch. With John Dishon batting, Adrian Williams caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Yovan Gonzalez to second baseman Ryan Wright. The three runs pushed Helena back in front, 5-3, & wound up being all the offense they needed.
  15. Final: Cedar Rapids 6, @Wisconsin 3 Home schedule ends with soggy loss By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Cedar Rapids played the final game of the 2011 season at Time Warner Cable Field in a steady rain on Tuesday night. The Kernels prevailed with a 6-3 victory over the Rattlers. Wisconsin (66-68 overall, 28-36 second half) manufactured a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Carlos Gomez reached on a bunt single to start the frame. Nick Shaw's sacrifice bunt moved Gomez to second base. TJ Mittelstaedt knocked in Gomez with a single. The Kernels (59-75, 27-37) took the lead in the top of the second. Marcus Nidiffer and Jarrod Parks reached on consecutive singles with one out. A wild pitch by Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller moved both runners up a base. Jean Almanzar tied the game with an RBI grounder. Drew Martinez put Cedar Rapids in front 2-2. The Rattlers took advantage of a bout of wildness on the part of Kernels starter Justin LaTempa. The Cedar Rapids righty retired the first two Wisconsin batters he faced in the bottom of the third. Shaw, Mittelstaedt, and Nick Ramirez all drew walks to load the bases. Cody Hawn drew the fourth straight free pass to force in Shaw to tied the game 2-2. Cedar Rapids went back in front in the top of the sixth. Nidifer doubled with two outs to drive in Jeremy Cruz from second base and the Kernels had a 3-2 lead. The Kernels tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth inning against Rattlers reliever Stosh Wawrzasek. Martinez started the inning with a single. He stole second and went to third on a throwing error. Rolando Gomez singled in Martinez. Justin Bass followed with an RBI double. A sacrifice fly by Ricky Alvarez scored Bass later in the inning for a 6-2 lead. Wisconsin mounted a rally with two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the ninth inning against Manny Correa. Reggie Keen singled. Shaw drew a walk. Mittelstaedt drove in Keen with a double. But, Correa got the final out with the tying run at the plate to preserve the win for Cedar Rapids. Gomez played seven innings in the final game of his major league rehab assignment with the Rattlers. He went 1-for-3 on Tuesday night. Gomez was 4-for-12 with three stolen bases and three runs scored in his four games with Wisconsin. The loss officially dropped the Rattlers out of playoff contention. The Rattlers had trailed Kane County for the second half Wild Card in the Western Division by six games with seven games to play. Kane County lost on Tuesday to Peoria at home. However, the Cougars hold the tie-breaker on the Rattlers by winning the season series. This means that the Rattlers can no longer catch Kane County for a playoff spot. Wisconsin finishes the home part of their schedule with a 35-35 record. The Timber Rattler begin a season-ending six-game road trip on Wednesday night at Burlington, Iowa. Wisconsin has Brooks Hall (7-4, 3.88) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Blake Hassebrock (7-8, 2.67) is set to start for the Bees. Game time at Community Field is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm. WP: Justin La Tempa (4-9) LP: Matt Miller (6-8) TIME: 3:08 ATTN: 5,911 Wisconsin Box Score Mittelstaedt went 3-4 with a double, walk, & two RBI. Ramirez, Shaw, Keen, & Gomez had the only other hits for the T-Rats -- all singles. Shaw also walked three times; Ramirez & Hawn each walked once. Wisconsin's six through nine hitters combined to go an impressive 0-16, with no walks & five strikeouts. Relievers Brian Garman & Maverick Lasker combined to work two scoreless innings of relief ahead of Wawrzasek. Wisconsin Play-by-Play
  16. Brevard County (game two): Postponed As Brevard County's Frank Longobardo noted in his game story from tonight's game 1...
  17. Final (game one): @Brevard County 1, Clearwater 0 'Tees walk-off with seven-inning win Second game of twinbill delayed until Wednesday By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. -- Following a two-hour rain delay, the Brevard County Manatees defeated the Clearwater Threshers 1-0 in seven innings, on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium, on a walk-off fielding error. The second game of Tuesday's scheduled doubleheader was postponed to Wednesday, due to inclement weather. Eric Marzac got the spot start for the 'Tees and allowed one run and one hit in 3 1/3 shutout innings. Brevard County (57-75 overall, 30-32 second half) had no answer for Clearwater's Julio Rodriguez, who shut out the Manatees for six innings and struck out 10. Evan Crawford relieved Marzac and ran into trouble in the sixth as he allowed back-to-back two-out singles. Jon Pokorny then came on and with runners on first and second and was able to get Cesar Hernandez to ground into a force out and end the threat. The Manatees were finally able to get something going in the bottom of the seventh off of Clearwater's (73-59, 34-29) Andy Loomis. Hunter Morris led off the inning with a single to right and then Kentrail Davis was hit by a pitch on his hand, while attempting to bunt. Chuck Caufield laid down a successful sacrifice bunt, to move Morris and Davis to second and third base, respectively. Loomis then intentionally walked Scott Krieger to get to Shawn Zarraga. The moved paid off as Zarraga flew out to right field. Josh Prince then stepped up and grounded a ball to shortstop, that went right between the legs of Alan Schoenberger and allowed Morris to score the winning run. Brevard County managed just two hits in the win as Scooter Gennett doubled in the third and the seventh-inning single by Morris. The Manatees and Threshers will close out their three-game series with a doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be seven-inning contests. 18. Final: Nashville 7, @Iowa 3 Sounds Even Road Series With 7-3 Win Nashville Sounds DES MOINES, Iowa - The Nashville Sounds evened their road series against the division-rival Iowa Cubs by posting a 7-3 victory on Tuesday evening at Principal Park. Martin Maldonado and Edwin Maysonet each drove in three runs on the night for the Sounds (69-69), who got two-hit efforts from five different players to pace their 12-hit attack. After Iowa took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Lou Montanez RBI single, the Sounds responded with three runs in the top of the second inning to grab a 3-1 advantage against Cubs starter Nick Struck. Mat Gamel, Maldonado, and Andy Gonzalez each singled against Struck to load the bags before Maysonet quickly emptied them with a bases-emptying, three-run double to left to push Nashville in front. The Cubs pulled back within a run at 3-2 in the third inning against Sounds starter Josh Butler, who struggled with his control in the frame. After the right-hander walked the bases loaded with one out, he managed to escape the jam with only one run crossing home. D.J. LeMahieu pushed across the lone score with an RBI infield single before Butler induced an inning-ending double play from Matthew Spencer to escape the bases-loaded jam. Maldonado extended the Nashville lead to 6-2 in the top of the fifth when he belted his second home run in two nights, a three-run shot off the facing of the suites beyond the left field wall. Logan Schafer drew an inning-opening walk and Jordan Brown followed with a single before both later trotted home on Maldonado's two-out blast, the backstop's eighth of the year. PCL home run leader Bryan LaHair (2-for-3) bashed his 38th big fly of the year to lead off the home half of the sixth frame, a towering shot to right off Butler that made it a 6-3 contest. The Sounds tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth against I-Cubs reliever Kyle Smit. Pitcher Daniel Meadows drew a walk to open the inning, moved to third on a Schafer double, and raced home on an Erick Almonte sacrifice fly. Iowa threatened in the ninth against Sounds reliever Daniel Herrera, putting the first two batters on base, but the left-hander retired the next three hitters in order to end the contest with no damage. Butler (9-7) earned his team-leading ninth win of the year for Nashville. He allowed three runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings of work, walking four batters and striking out three. Struck (2-4) absorbed the loss for Iowa after giving up six runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 frames of action. The teams continue the series with another 6:35 p.m. meeting on Wednesday evening. Right-hander Mike Fiers (6-0, 1.42), a winner in six of his first eight starts, will man the bump for the Sounds and face Iowa right-hander Jay Jackson (7-13, 4.57). Nashville Box Score Maldonado finished 2-4 with three RBI. Schafer had two walks & two hits, including a double; Gonzalez also went 2-3 with two walks. Caleb Gindl had two hits with one double; Brown had two hits as well. Meadows worked 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Hererra worked around two hits to complete the scoreless 9th. Nashville Play-by-Play The Sounds were up 3-2 coming into the 5th inning, and the three runs they plated here wound up being the decisive blow in the game: Nashville Top of the 5th Logan Schafer walks. Jordan Brown singles on a line drive to left fielder Bryan LaHair. Logan Schafer to 2nd. Eric Farris lines out to center fielder Brett Jackson. Mat Gamel flies out to right fielder Lou Montanez. Pitcher Change: Carlton Smith replaces Nicholas Struck, batting 9th. Andy Gonzalez walks. Edwin Maysonet strikes out swinging. Nashville Gameday
  19. Final: @AZL Indians 4, AZL Brewers 3 AZL Box Score The AZL Brewers ended their season on a sour note tonight, choking away the 3-1 lead they held heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. Fortunately, there was a silver lining: 2011 second-round pick Jorge Lopez pitched the best outing of his short debut pro season. His line: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 5 K. Fellow 2011 draftee Mike Francisco worked three innings in relief, allowing just one run. Connor Whalen allowed the Indians' final two runs & took the loss. Kevin Berard had two hits, including a double, & one RBI. Andres Martinez provided the big offensive blast, a two-run homer to left in the three-run Brewers 5th inning. Alejandro Mendoza added two singles. '11 5th rounder Michael Reed doubled once. Jalen Harris & Renaldo Jenkins each singled once. AZL Play-by-Play Everything after two! A good old-fashioned two-out rally in the 5th led to all of the Brewers' runs: AZL Brewers Top of the 5th Jalen Harris strikes out swinging. Matthew Franco strikes out swinging. Renaldo Jenkins singles on a ground ball to left fielder Hunter Jones. Andres Martinez homers (5) on a fly ball to left field. Renaldo Jenkins scores. Alejandro Mendoza singles on a ground ball to third baseman Robel Garcia. Kevin Berard doubles (8) on a line drive to left fielder Hunter Jones. Alejandro Mendoza scores. Pitcher Change: Xavier De Los Santos replaces Luis DeJesus. Michael Reed called out on strikes.
  20. I was at tonight's game, the main reason being to see Arnett pitch in person. Simply put, he was not good. His FB velocity topped out at 91 (on the stadium gun), and he wasn't able to locate well at that speed. His best fastballs were closer to 89-90 & seemed to have a bit more sink than when he ran it up to 91 (which he did on multiple occasions). His changeup actually looked pretty solid, & generated lots of swings-&-misses. However, the problem became that he was having to try to pitch backwards off the changeup, since his command of his fastball was so poor. His fastball was in the 86-88 range as much as it was in the 89-91 range, unfortunately. I saw the bust version of Arnett tonight, as opposed to the supposedly resurgent version who earned himself a promotion to A-ball.
  21. Final: Cedar Rapids 6, @Wisconsin 4 Kernels crack Rattlers win streak By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers made it look as if they would continue their late season roll as they grabbed a 3-0 lead over the Cedar Rapids Kernels Monday night at Time Warner Cable Field. But, the Kernels rallied to beat Wisconsin 6-4 and snap the Rattlers four game winning streak. Cody Hawn started the Rattlers second inning with a single. Nick Ramirez followed with a walk. Reggie Keen was next and his double down the third base line drove both runners. Keen scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Greg Hopkins and the Rattlers (66-67 overall, 28-35 second half) led 3-0. But, the Kernels (58-75, 26-37) rallied in the top of the third inning. Jean Almanzar homered off Rattlers starter Eric Arnett with one out. Later in the inning, Jeremy Cruz singled in a run with two outs to make the score 3-2. Arnett had two outs with no one on base in the fifth inning. Then, Cruz and Ricky Alvarez singled and Brian Hernandez walked on four pitches to load the bases. Arnett also walked Francis Larson on four pitches to force in the tying run. Wisconsin reliever Casey Medlen, who got the final out of the fifth inning, would have a runner at second with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. However, Justin Bass doubled to send the go ahead run home for the Kernels. A two out RBI single by Rolando Gomez drove in an insurance run for Cedar Rapids in the top of the eighth. Controversy followed the Rattlers in an attempted rally in the bottom of the eighth. There was one out when lefty Dakota Robinson entered the game to face left-handed hitters Hawn and Ramirez. Hawn greeted Robinson with a single. But, it looked like Robinson had picked Hawn off first base. The Rattlers runner was caught in a rundown and appeared to be tagged for the out. There was a collision between Hawn and Alvarez, the first baseman for Cedar Rapids, before the tag and Alvarez was called for obstruction. Kernels manager Brent Del Chiaro came out to argue that Hawn had initiated the contact and was out of the baseline when contact was made. He was ejected after the umpires upheld the call. Ramirez cashed in the opportunity for Wisconsin with a double to score Hawn and cut the Cedar Rapids lead to a run. Brandon Macias came on to pinch run for Ramirez and Keen would bloop a single to center. But, Macias had to hold to make sure the ball fell in for a hit. That put runners at first and third with one out. But, Robinson would pick Keen off first base and strike out Joey Paciorek to end the threat. Cedar Rapids added another insurance run in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI single by Ricky Alvarez. Manny Correa gave up a leadoff single to Hopkins in the bottom of the ninth. Then, he retired the last three batters in order for his second save of the season. The final home game of the Timber Rattlers 2011 schedule is Tuesday night at Time Warner Cable Field. Matt Miller (6-7, 4.41) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Cedar Rapids has Justin La Tempa (3-9, 4.61) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 7:05pm. HOME RUN: CR: Jean Almanzar (3rd, 0 on in 3rd inning off Eric Arnett, 1 out) WP: Seth Fowler (3-4) LP: Casey Medlen (1-1) TIME: 3:15 ATTN: 5,295 Wisconsin Box Score Carlos Gomez went 1-4 with a stolen base, & was picked off second base in his second-to-last rehab start. Hawn went 2-3 with a walk; Ramirez went 2-3 with two doubles, a walk, & one RBI. TJ Mittelstaedt was 2-5. Keen finished 2-4 with a double & two RBI. Hopkins went 1-2 with a walk; Nick Shaw was 1-4 with a walk. Arnett's final line was 4.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R/ER, 4 BB, 4K. Medlen worked a solid 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits, one run, & striking out four. Alan Williams & Dan Britt each allowed one run in their single innings of relief. Wisconsin Play-by-Play

  23. Sorry I missed this until now. I really am not sure about the stadium gun here in Appleton, to be honest. Iirc, though, there have been BF.netter reports along the way this season & last that seemed to agree that it's a tick fast, if anything... and not necessarily reliable.
  24. Final: Huntsville 6, @Jackson 4 Huntsville Box Score Brock Kjeldgaard went 4-4 with two home runs & a double to lead the way for the Stars' extra-base-hit-fueled attack. Zelous Wheeler also homered, while Sean Halton & Khris Davis each added doubles. Sergio Miranda's two singles, along with Kjeldgaard's lone single, were the only Huntsville hits not to go for extra bases. Dan Merklinger worked six innings, allowing six hits, four runs (three earned), & three walks while striking out six. Darren Byrd struck out three over two perfect innings of relief. Santo Manzanillo came on & worked around two walks for a scoreless 9th. Huntsville Play-by-Play The Stars scored two runs in the 2nd & 3rd innings, but the Generals were able to answer -- Jackson tied the game at 4 apiece after the home half of the 4th inning. Halton's RBI double in the 7th pushed the Stars in front by one, & Kjeldgaard's second homer put them up 6-4 after the top of the 8th.
