  1. He kind of reminds me of that kid in Tee-ball that would just keep running around all the bases no matter where the ball was hit and weather or not there was a play to be made. This cracked me up. The alternate version is, of course, the guy in gym class or coed softball that just keeps running, while the defense inevitably throws the ball all over the diamond, & it results in a "home run".
  2. Wow. Always sad to see someone die so young. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. I think the Brewers are going to really wind up missing Odorizzi, but best of luck to him with the Royals.
  4. Hah. Well honestly EDR would probably know better than me anyway. But I'll give it a shot. - Deschutes Brewpub in the Pearl District - Rogue Distillery & Public House in the Pearl - Bridgeport Brewpub in the Pearl - New Old Lompoc on NW 23d Ave. - Full Sail at Riverplace on the river in the SW side of Portland - Hopworks Urban Brewery in the SE - Burnside Brewing in the SE I've been to the first four, as I lived in the NW of Portland. All of those are pretty easy to get to with the streetcar. I haven't been to the Portland Full Sail outpost, but I've been to the Full Sail Brewery/Brewpub in Hood River, and really enjoyed it. In general I like Full Sail's brews. The latter two are in the SE of the city, across the river. They're still very do-able with public transportation (MAX light rail &/or buses). I haven't been to either of them, but I'd be surprised if they weren't worth the trip (as long as you had time). If you're only in Portland for one day, just shoot for the first four or five... and if you really have to keep things centralized, 1-4 are all really close together. I included the Google Map links on each of them so you can get an idea about where you'd be going. The downtown of Portland is on the W side of the river, and anything downtown is going to be either a NW or SW street address. I'm guessing I've made some gross omission that EDR will correct me on, hopefully soon. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Oh, and if you're in the area for breakfast or lunch, Kornblatt's is a great Jewish/NY-style deli that I still miss almost every day. It's in the NW, not too far from New Old Lompoc -- N.O. Lompoc also actually has pretty good food, too.
  5. There are some occasions where it is a simple mismatch. The Lawrie comments read exactly this way to me... sorry, probably shouldn't have even brought it up. It just occurred to me when reading it how similar the two guys' comments were.
  6. "Cleveland wasn't a good fit for me" Some Brewerfan posters raked Lawrie over the coals for saying basically the exact same thing about the Brewers after being sent to Toronto. Funny how it just doesn't jump off the page at you when it's not being said about your team.
  7. Good call, Ebba. Probably a very good chance that's correct. I know the T-Rats get a lot of school trips.
  8. Trot Nixon was another, fits the 'never made it out of ST' criterion
  9. Morgan just didn't look that good is the short time between his injuries. I'd love to see a batter do what it takes to impress you. A slash line of .379/.419./586/1.006 is usually satisfactory to me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. They'll need plus defense in 4 or so years, too. You always need that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Yeah, he was dominating tonight. Awesome. Fwiw, the coaching staff was equating this start to being like his final ST start. So *next* start is when they'll just cut him loose. 6 IP, 9 Ks & 0 BBs is just the beginning! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. I really have grown to love Marcum, but I'm with cwolf. This isn't tough. It's Greinke.
  13. Whenever I see this thread I just think, "Why won't you die?" http://www.comicsbeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/twofaceforever1.jpg No need to apologize for your comment earlier. I just thought it was a funny Yogi-ism.
  14. Roberts has thrown a lot of would-be basestealers out so far. That's nice to see.
  15. This thread would have died a long time ago if it didn't keep getting resurrected. It's so crowded, nobody goes there.
  16. All he can do is dominate who he faces and that is the only thing he has done so far. But TheCrew07's point was that it's not enough of a workload yet to know if Ross is actually this good, or just on a hot streak. Has Rogers raw power ever done anything for him? Yeah, he held opposing batters to something like a .215 BAA last season, & strikes out a ton of batters.
  17. Paging Edgar Diaz Rocks... paging Edgar Diaz Rocks... Seriously, though, I'll send him a PM. He'd be pissed if he didn't get to answer this!
  18. Good call on Gennett, Paul. He seems to fit the profile described in the OP, and even plays in the middle infield. Not sure how I forgot about him!
  19. Phew! I checked his blog quite a bit yesterday, but thanks for catching that one Mass Haas.
  20. Wow, I'm looking forward to seeing Rivera. Only trouble is that Mother Nature is looking pretty unkind this week in Appleton.
  21. Newport State Park is pretty cool, too. It's just past Rowley's Bay, to the E-NE http://maps.google.com/ma...resnum=4&ved=0CCsQnwIwAw
  22. Brandon Kintzler has been fun to watch for me. I like him as a bullpen arm for the foreseeable future. And I totally agree on Marcum, joepepsi. I thought about bumping his trade thread a couple days ago to post something similar. The guy, as Lucroy noted, is a sniper. He's really fun to watch, even without big velocity.
  23. Keep in mind that a healthy Logan Schafer is a viable option in CF. Not sure how well Komatsu defends in CF, but the Brewers have been committed to playing him there in MiLB. He's another OBP-type role player. Caleb Gindl is another one. The trouble I see is that we have these players, just not in the infield where we could use them most. If Taylor Green can return to hitting, he's an IF that profiles in this vein, but not a MIF.
  24. As long as he's not hitting 2nd, I don't agree that he's a huge problem. He brings elite defense & great speed. Gomez is not the first sub-.300 OBP player the Brewers should be looking to replace, especially now with no realistic option for CF given Morgan's injury.
