  1. 3) I don't believe that Prince is worth spending $20M per season. His defense cuts into his overall value too much for me to want to see the Crew pay Prince like he's Adrian Gonzalez. 4) No. It seems very clear to me that Fielder is after the money here, and that's what'll motivate him. This is probably his one shot at a huge contract. 5) A team that's looking to contend in 2011 that wants to upgrade at 1B/DH, and that thinks they'd get > or = value in the comp. picks Fielder will garner compared to the prospects they'd need to pay to land him. The Giants, Rockies, Tigers, Rangers, White Sox, Red Sox, even Blue Jays & Rays are some teams that might be fits in that sense. It'd take eating a big chunk of Fielder's '11 salary to get a good return in some cases (like TB), but if that means the Brewers are getting top-shelf talent in return, they have the money to do that this offseason. While I don't disagree that Adrian Gonzalez complicates matters for the Brewers & Prince, that's only one player. Even if teams concentrate on Gonzalez first, that doesn't mean there won't be significant interest in Fielder once Gonzalez is gone. As long as the Brewers are willing to be creative (read: eat some of his '11 salary), there should be several realistic partners for a Fielder trade.
  2. I think Melvin has said 'I'm not motivated to move ____' about Overbay, Hardy, Cameron, and probably more guys. It's all likely just a leverage ploy. I read "We're not shopping Prince" as, 'You have to call *me*, other GMs'.
  3. Fwiw, Kranitz won Baseball America's Major League Coach of the Year Award in 2006.
  4. I don't know for certain that he does, but I don't think it's necessarily safe to assume Roenicke doesn't speak Spanish.
  5. I read that a Pirates beat writer voted for Tabata & Walker, but not Heyward. It seems every year we're reminded just how crappy this voting really is.
  6. I share that concern, Hammer. A GM trying to keep himself employed probably isn't concerned first & foremost with what's best for the organization, long-term.
  7. If I'm the Padres, the last guy I'm looking to move this offseason is Latos. My guess is the Pads would try to package several prospects together to try to net Lawrie. Straight-up, Latos would be way too much for Brett.
  8. That's awesome to hear on both those guys. Is that pretty much in line with what you think of them, cj? I did like him quite a bit and I think he has a chance to be an impact middle-of-the-order bat. No other tool will match his power for pure raw strength, but he’ll be just fine at an outfielder corner in terms of arm strength and speed. This made me very happy to read.
  9. It just seems that more often than not, when people don't have a rebuttal they try to belittle others to give their viewpoint more clout by negativity. Since I wasn't interested in any way in making a rebuttal, or arguing with you in any fashion, I just made a (obviously lame) joke. But if you need to pat yourself on the back & over-analyze the deeper meaning of what I said, go for it. All it was was a lame joke; I didn't think you were seriously stating you think Braun is injury-prone & that needs to be considered in his long-term value. I still have not seen one reason why they couldn't trade Braun other that a fan revolt and he is the face of the franchise. And I was strongly advocating the Brewers make the unrealistic Lester for Braun trade straight up earlier in the thread. You seem to be focusing your anger on someone that isn't disagreeing with you in any way.
  10. Man, I sure hope you are too. I have to try harder to not pre-judge Roenicke, but lineup possibilities scare me here.
  11. Are you talking about Uggla? I'm confused.
  12. I like the fangs in the main script, and like that they incorporated that look in both the home & away scripts.
  13. I'm definitely nearing 100% on the opinion that Carlos Gomez is a complete lost cause. So frustrating.
  14. I wasn't acting like an ass, just trying to kid around.
  15. He hasn't had "chronic" injuries. He had the intercostal strain in 2008 that seemed to carry over a bit into 2009, but has been fine for quite some time now. He got hit by a pitch on the elbow this season that seemed to affect him for a while, but we also know that he appeared to recover from that later in the season and looked great. A "chronic" injury is one that keeps cropping up year after year.Uh oh... has he assumed Brittle Ben's mantle -- Brittle Braun?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. I typically don't like over-analyzing TV shows, although the stuff AMC has been producing lately is similar to some of the stuff HBO has produced to years in regards to quality. I agree completely with this. AMC has brought HBO-quality original programming to basic cable, and I love them for it.
  17. David DeJesus will have surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right thumb and the Kansas City Royals outfielder will miss at least 10 weeks. DeJesus sprained his right thumb crashing into the fence in center field Thursday night in Yankee Stadium, a play that resulted in an inside-the-park homer for Derek Jeter. The Royals initially called the injury a sprain Friday when he was placed on the disabled list. But DeJesus saw a specialist in Cleveland and it was determined he would have surgery Monday. Link
  18. Dang, hang in there man. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  19. While I agree with you on the 'fantasy value' aspect of Crawford, his tremendous defense more than makes up for his offensive shortcomings when compared to Braun. Braun's highest WAR value in his career so far is 4.9. Crawford's past two seasons have been 6.9 & 5.7.
  20. Oh no! This is very sad news, he was a real joy to listen to. RIP Mr. Niehaus. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  21. Would have to get Crawford to replace Braun though, otherwise we're just fixing one hole to create another. You wouldn't have to if you're comfortable with Gamel's bat.
  22. Yeah, I was confused about that too. I guess if you just infer what it means based on what else is typed, you have to assume it's a full NTC for '08 through '11. *shrug*
  23. Per Cot's: no-trade clause 2008-11, limited no-trade clause 2012-13 (may block deals to 12 clubs) no-trade clause 2014-15 (may block deals to 6 clubs)
  24. There's no way the Brewers would take this big of a PR hit. Trading Prince is something they can pretty easily get away with. But if they traded Braun, lots of fans would be furious guaranteed. I'll start this by reiterating that I don't think there's any real kind of chance that the Brewers could get Lester for Braun. However, that's exactly the kind of bold move the Brewers should be looking to make if it were available; to bring in some legit top of the league pitching. If fans wouldn't understand that an all-bat LF isn't nearly as hard to find as an arm like Lester, too bad. They'd forget about any sore feelings once Lester went out & continued to dominate. I definitely am a Braun fan. Don't want to suggest otherwise. However, I'm an ever bigger fan of stud pitchers like Lester.
